This autocross course is just as unbalanced of a test as a NASCAR track. One is all-handling, the other is all-speed. Easy, swap out the crappy old bias ply tires with modern radials. Now the Charger can put a lot more power to the ground and be more maneuverable. Replace the minivan's radials with yesterdays bias ply and see how it manages. The old 440 Hemi Daytona produced an underrated 425 hp and 490 ft. lb. of torque while the minivan doesn't produce half of that. I'm not even a Chrysler fan boy but that's just physics in the car world.
shoot , the daytona is only 40 yrs older......what kind of comparison is this? i guess the only way imports can [barely] beat muscle if its got a 40 year advantage in handling tech. now wheres the video of the daytona running laps around that retarded looking van on the NASCAR track? i guess they forgot. imports suck! American muscle all day!
@72charger440se You know he did SAY that the Charger has a massive straight line advantage. What he was looking to point out was the terrible braking and handling of old muscle cars like this. It is especially interesting given the fact that the Charger Daytona, like the Superbird, was a homologation RACE CAR, where the Honda is a minivan, possibly the least sporty vehicle ever created. And it's loaded full of strippers.
@BlackOpSource "A '63 Honda S500 would smash the van." I'd be willing to argue that. The S500 will certainly outhandle the van. But the S500 made, what, 60hp? And you have to rev it to 10k RPM to find it. The van is a lot heavier, but the van makes 4 times the torque, and at low RPMs. That's crucial in autoXing. Plus, the van still has the same 40+ year advantage in suspension design. Now, pit the van against a Lotus Elise, and then things will be drastically different.
I don't really understand why people are getting upset here. I personally am a huge fan of classic American cars, and they still have their place. They were however not designed the same way or for the same purpose as many newer cars. Of course the Odyssey outperformed the Daytona here, but if you put them out on a track that the Daytona was designed to race on, it would be a different story. You can't compare cars that were designed for different purposes.
@Danger2006Ranger it's not incredibly fast in the straights either. Yea at the time when it was new it was pretty quick, but keeping it stock, even in a straight line it'll lose to most modern cars that are considered "slow." And try not to bring up mods, if you supercharge or turbo any car it'll go fast in a straight line. Schoolbusses with stock engines can do 10 second QM. Thats why IMO handling is much more important than straight line performance. Any car with a decent P/W ration will be ok
@JD0x0 This is my Daytona, i was not driving in through the turns. It kinda scared me when i saw this on TV as i was not there when this was filmed. I have had lots of mopars down through the years but the Daytona turns heads like nothing else. What a blast to drive.

Who in the hell races full-size cars in autocross anyway? Put these two on a real race track, like Streets of Willow, Laguna Seca, or even the Nurburgring and run the test.
Or if you really want to compare apples to apples, let's pull out Buddy Baker's NASCAR Daytona, and stick it next to a "Car of Tomorrow" at Talladega. They don't do 200mph averages anymore, but they damn-well did in 1970. Well, the Dodges and Plymouths did, anyway.
40 years & millions of dollars R&D, ABS brakes, electronic fuel injection & only 2 seconds quicker than an Nascar designed muscle car with 185/14 tyres????????. Stick to soccer practice & trips to the mall
this test is retarted. A mini van against a '69 Charger Daytona? Ok for one, the Daytona was designed for Nascar, its RWD and heavy. Its not meant for autocross. A van isn't meant for autocross, it's not meant to be sporty, period. Plus, show me one person that owns a '69 Charger Daytona who actually wants to run it like a dog on a track against a dumb van? Those cars are worth way too much money. Go look up Mr. Angry's '69 Daytona, that is actually built for events like this....
This video compares apples and oranges. 40 year old technology and engineering is not going to beat new technology. I'm sure if it was a brand new charger against the old charger you'd see more than a 2.7 second difference in course times. If you put the Charger Daytona against the Minivan on a superspeedway, the daytona would literally run circles around the minivan because of the speed limiter built into the van's computer. Honda Odyssey=great minivan. Charger Daytona=Great Musclecar.
This is fuckin stupid! try this again on a real race track and see what happens?? of coarse a car like the charger daytona isnt gona do well on this go cart coarse, look at it, its HUGE! but do this same thing on a a real track and that honda shit can is gona get its tiny asian ass handed to it nooooo problem!
The charger in all iterations up untill 74 was intended soley for superspeedway, that honda, was designed for stability in. The streets. Put the two on a course like talledega, the charger will win, hands down. Both cars were designed with different types of performance in mind, and they happened to test the 2 where the honda acceled.
ANDDDD for all the fucking idiots saying run the Odyssey against a new Daytona or Charger you can suck a dick and let me see ANYYY charger or muscle car run it against a s2000 the track king.. Just goes to show how ridicules you sound by saying that, and this video is obviously nothing serious so stop arguing about it..fuckers
I would think a Daytona would be the hardest Muscle car to autocross because of the nose. A normal body Muscle Car could make up the 2 second difference just being able to see the course. Just the front visabilty of the Odyssey Minivan would make it faster. They(SCR) were just copying something Grassroots Motorsports( magazine) did with an Odyssey , but they beat a old Porsche I believe. Why could'nt SCR find a sports car, not a large muscle car to embarrass???
I have run autocross with a 74 Plymouth Duster. similar suspension( torsion bars and leaf springs) as a Daytona. One event my old car had a faster time than these: 92 celica, , 03 350z, 03 mini cooper, 03 protege 5, 91 CRX, 96 eclipse, 91 MR2, 79 RX7, 87 Supra, , 97 Miata. to name a few.
I personally am a fan of classic American cars like the Daytona here, however, it was not built for the purposes shown in this test, therefore it is no surprise that the Odyssey outdid the Daytona; the Odyssey was built for family driving, like that shown here, the Daytona was not.
Both vehicles are respectable in their own right, personally I wouldnt give up my old MoPar (even if it is a 77 Aspen) simply because I like it, if I had a family, maybe something like the Odyssey would be better
The cars have a nearly half century age difference. The dodge would have taken any van or honda of the time period very easily. A new charger would also easily take the new van. And with some aftermarket suspension, the old car would take the new van. It is not sensible to put two cars against eachother with nearly a half century age diffenece, it's silly. Dodge has been producing drivetrain long before1910 and cars from 1912. Auto racing was born in the U.S. Domestics regularly win Lemans.
thats the idea, the muscle car wouldn't keep up w/o modification. also its so shut up musclefags who brag on and on about how good their cars are. also, if dodge has been making cars since 1910, why are they -still- so shitty? makers like honda, hyundai and toyota make better products and have been around for far less time.
Knobcheeselicker69,that daytona is a legend the honda not! Richard petty was the first to break 200mph in a daytona. The car shown here was detuned for the public.Lets take a new dodge vs a honda from the 60s. Your an idiot you dont know cars so shut your piehole!
if its a legend, then it should be able to beat a minivan. honda was barely making performance cars in the 60s, but if you want to compete a dodge journey against a honda s800, you're more than welcome.
also of course its detuned for the public, they dont put racecars on the road, are you retarded?
A suspension made 40yrs ago vs new?I would bet that the owner of they daytona wanted totally original so that means the tires on it are pollyglass not radials.I would say your the tard, I didnt say race car I said detuned meaning smaller cam and less compression.I'll take the legend you take the rice
learn how to use terminology, a stock minivan is not rice.
now what you say proves my point exactly. that car, like most muscle, is shitty, tired and old-tech. even if it was brand new, do you honestly think it would be 2 seconds faster?
>The car shown here was detuned for the public.
so if this car in the video was the high performance one, then the one for the public would be slower, am i right?
also if you swap it around, a honda s800 would roll a dodge caravan.
See where your honda is in 40yrs and see what kinda value its worth, the daytona has won way more races then the honda ever will and its value has gone from 4grand new to 200grand so give it up
@68chargerlover your calling one of the worlds fastest cars of the time, was a james bond car and one of the first modern japanese sports cars, NOT a legend?! troll rice boy? look whose talking hypicrite, i dont know about cars? again who called the toyota 2000gt not a legend?!
@PD19954 its not compared to the muscle cars, and you dont know cars troll boy. Ask your average person what the 2jz is and they will tell you a blender or can opener or something. Ask what a hemi is and they will tell you its a powerful engine. Ask most people what a supra is and most will say its a jap sports car( not an exotic). Ask what car was the General Lee and most people will know it and daisy duke, both of which you wouldnt like.
Four cylinders are faster off the start and peppy at lower speeds,Little to do with brakes and handling. They should put it up against the newer 80's Dodge Daytonas and see if that POS Honda can keep up.
Four cylinders are self balanced engines and don't have to run crankshaft counterweights so they rev faster(less rotational and reciprocating mass),also four cylinders typically have lower gear ratio first and second gear transmission connected to them because they have less power .4 cylinders weigh less all together so they are faster off the line. The odyssey has a five speed and the Daytona has a 3 speed.
if its a piece of shit, its a real shame it beat a legend.
and lets see where a new dodge is in 40 years, lol. every time you insult the honda, you insult the dodge, because it is slower, less practical and more expensive.
run the honda against the new daytona then or new challenger.Or a 40yr old honda vs the new challenger lets see how they differ, whats the techology difference. The daytona is a classic the honda isnt give it up loser
how about, in the spirit of this test, we run a honda s800 against a dodge caravan? i already said that. it is a 40 year old honda vs a brand new dodge minivan.
also you keep saying the dodge is a classic. how does that make any difference to the car at all? its still slow and overpriced.
Dont matter what you run,the daytona will always be wanted over the honda even if they run a 40, 50 60yr old car against a new honda. You bring your honda and I'll run my 40 yr old charger lets see who wins
well, considering an s800 would be faster than the minivan around an autocross track, i would probably say the honda would be.
and how does it matter how much the car is wanted? all it means is the driver is more likely to be a bitch and drive it slowly and the car/parts are all expensive and kept by hoarders.
actually it's not just minivans, it;s already been proven that Japanese cars and European cars are a level beyond American cars in handling and cornering abilities.
Most Muscle cars from the 60s to the 70s didn't have performance numbers like modern cars. My wife's Subaru Forester 0-60 in 5.4 sec and sub 14 sec 1/4 mile, plus 2 kids and a dog! Only a couple muscle cars have numbers like that stock.
Wow you dont know much about the cars from the 60s or early 70s. For one they were 3 to 4 grand vs your car which is 20 to 30 grand. And for second they had pollyglass tires when muscle cars got the times they did they were smoking the tires down most of the track,no traction and getting 14s
hahahahahahahahahaha i beg to differ, all you have to do to corner is know how your car handles, no matter what you do a Charger will always be better than your moms mini van
Hmm, I looked it up, and that minivan already weighs 4,400 lbs. They added 400 extra pounds to put it at a weight disadvantage, and it still did very well. We've had some Chrysler products over the years, and that company did nothing to improve the breed. It seems they got worse each year. Mopar no more for us. No wonder we switched to Honda...all of us, and many of our neighbors dumped their American cars after they saw how well these cars worked. BTW, that Honda was built in Alabama, USA.
It'd be easy to out-brake the Daytona - Chrysler only fitted 4 wheel drums!!!
As for unusual comparisions - I recall a 1980 Motor Trend comparo between a Honda Civic 1.5 and a Porsche 924 - the outcome was in the Honda's favour!
You have to also think that its 40yrs of technology,I would hope they did some improvments after all those years. But no matter how you look at it, its still a mini van,it wasnt a fair comparision, upgrade the daytona to todays standards then see how it does.Or get a 40yr old honda against a car made today.
Your mom made a porky little fucker and we dont talk about you. How much will the honda ever be worth and how much is a daytona? The need to compare cars of similar years. The daytona is a cool car and mini vans suck ass.
"68chargerlover" huh? Somebody sounds a little biased to me. This test had nothing to do with the car's worth, just it's handling ability. Cars these days just keep getting heavier and heavier with all the new safety regulations, yet this oversized people mover is still 400 pounds lighter than the old Charger. Really, that just makes the Charger look pathetic. What's worse is that even with the unfair advantage, the minivan is still faster, more comfortable, and more versatile.
Because making a gentle transition between a straight and a long, smooth, banked left hand corner is a true test of a car's handling and braking capabilities, right? As I've already said, that's what this test was about. Face it, old muscle cars are good looking and can make tons of power, but they're far from the best cars in the world when you stop looking at them through a heavy tint of nostalgia.
Give me a break, the charger is 40yrs older then the ricer! Now lets take a new mopar vs a 40yr old honda these guys are idiots and shouldnt even be testing any cars. The daytona it a legend and won many races. Now lets see what the value of each car is compared!
I have to wonder how much the long snout slowed the Daytona down avoiding cones. If they really wanted a fair comparo, I would have chose an AAR 'Cuda vs. a Dodge Caravan.
This car was never designed to corner but there are chargers that have been retrofitted with racks instead of the sla suspension and honda loses its ass half the time. how convenient they picked a 30 yr old car to compete against, the new chargers are designed for this and they didnt pick on them why? Because vans are top heavy and cant drift, Oh but that new badass Hemi can. Stick to what you know wal-mart shoppers, against even a neon SXT your van would throw parts keeping up..Lol!
honda minivans are tha shit i have a 2002 honda odyssey with 240 horses and when fed premium fuel that bitch moves i have dogged many nissan altimas and maximas some v6 mustangs and plenty more and to show that japanese technology came around i would like to see a 06 taurus or chevy impala race a 1999 honda odyssey wit just 210 horses these vans drive like cars it doesnt even revela its weight
Theirs a reason why the NSX was discontinued and their are no Jap supercars, its called the GT40, Corvette, Viper (atomicstang)
-You say that but has the NSX in its own era not dominated the competition? the Nsx defeated the vette and a few of the ferrari's. the reason the nsx was discontinued was because it didnt make sales cuz of its unattractive price. now, the newer nsx's(nsx-r, nsx type s) wooped porsche 911's like nothing.
To the people who're always saying that anything from overseas beat domestic: Go suck a Japanese cock if that's what u like. You idiots don't realize that all the technology you like to brag about comes from what once where the top end vehicles and that it eventually found its way into normal people's cars. Instead of trying to make fun of a 40 year old car, you should be thankful that thanks to that old school tech you can now borrow your mom's kick-ass minivan!
You make a good point because ANYBODY who disses ANY car based on where they came from is an idiot. Both America AND foriegn contries make good and bad cars.
I think the Daytona is ugly as hell, but still whoever came up with this comparison is a fucking retard; a match up between a modern day Muscle car and an old school one would've been more reasonable, but an Odyssey? C'mon! Soccer mom rides didn't even exist when they made the Daytona! shame on that fat-ass and the things he has to do to earn his money to go to McDonald's
again as quoted b4, all this vid shows is how far we have come in 40 years. Had this vid shown the Dodge against a Honda minivan from its own era, Im pretty sure there would b more than a 2 second gap
Oh hay guys a motorcycle can beat both of those cars. A 16th century carriage will come in last.
ZOMG THIS PROVES SOMETHING!
Yes, its fairly stupid to design a car to only go in a straight line. But thats not the cars fault. It does what it was designed to do very well. Thats all you can ask from a machine.
This just prooves that percision engeneering is better than brute force...sure in a straight line on a sunny day the daytona would kill the Odyssey...but the level of engeneering on the Odyssey is so far beyond the Daytona, or as a matter of fact even new GM, Chrysler, Ford products.
This does not prove anything except research & development has come along way in the last 40 years. To take this seriously and say that Honda tech is better than USA is stupid.
If u want to compare 40 year tech to 40 year tech thats fine but not todays vs yesturdays.
Theirs a reason why the NSX was discontinued and their are no Jap supercars, its called the GT40, Corvette, Viper
you actually take this van seriously. if you want a fast honda, buy a 1990 Honda crx with no motor, and swap a b18c5 type r motor with the limited slip trans axle.
the only reason American cars dont handle like your little rice buckets is because they weight 2000lbs more.
its the same thing with European lightweight cars. domestic manufactures they focus on the heavy, yet power cars. "muscle cars" are the nicest cars ever built. but they give us a bad name in road racing.
This just prooves that percision engeneering is better than brute force...sure in a straight line on a sunny day the daytona would kill the Odyssey...but the level of engeneering on the Odyssey is so far beyond the Daytona, or as a matter of fact even new GM, Chrysler, Ford products.
The part about the weight is not true, the Daytona used to weigh 3700-3800 pounds, while the Odyssey EX weighs about 4300 pounds, so with atleast 400 pounds extra from the 4 strippers..prolly more, the Odyssey was actually 1000+ pounds heavier than the Charger Daytona, and it has ATLEAST 100 less hp, if not 200 less cuz idk which engine the daytona had in it, and is a FWD vs the RWD Daytona.
imo: the odyssey is the best looking and most fun to drive minivan out there (iv driven all 2007s); i would never buy a minivan but if i had to it would be the odyssey hands down. The toyota siena would be second but i don't like its looks. I despise the older Dodge/Chrysler vans, the new ones are alot better. GMs vans are ugly as shit... oh wait they are shit. kia and hyundai's are good overall but very bland looking, esp on the outside.
I have an 05 oddy with 255 HP compared to the 07 with 244. I have taken it up in the mountains and it does handle beautifully. It is no sports car but I have yet to drive a mini van or even a truck that handles that good.
You do know that the lowered horsepower was because of a change in the calculations. Many other cars had the same sort of change. For example, the Toyota Sequoia changed from 282 HP to something like 270 HP. Nothing changed with the engine.
LOL American Muscle cant even handle an Asian minivan - Wow.
Just kiddin... It's amazing how well cars handle today versus years of before... But I think we made some of the best cars (for handling) in the late 80s, early 90s.
the daytona was made for nascar type tracks. (oval traks) not small tracks where you have to constantly brake. do a 5 lap race on any nascar track and see who wins.
What a joke, compare apples to apples. Of course todays cars can handle better then cars made in the 70's. Here's something did Honda invent the minivan? No! Chrysler did and like always the japenese just copy....
American CARS suck ass.............IMPORT CARS AND TRUCKS KICK ASS.......who cares who invented what....if u don't make things better u will never progress
yeah to bad that dodge charger dayona was made for nascar only not road racing and muscle cars didnt involve computers just good ol gasoline and that car is almost 40 years old
ok 1 i wasnt going agenst you 2 i supported your opinion 3 you dont have to be an asshole. since when is taking a ride gay 5 what you said makes absolutly no sense if crusing drag raceing and racing are all gay what the hell else is there

Heheheh Odyssey is the shit :D I have a 08 and it's an incredible mini van..Deff worth the money :P
SDcorner 2 years ago
I would think a Daytona would be the hardest Muscle car to autocross because of the nose. A normal body Muscle Car could make up the 2 second difference just being able to see the course. Just the front visabilty of the Odyssey Minivan would make it faster. They(SCR) were just copying something Grassroots Motorsports( magazine) did with an Odyssey , but they beat a old Porsche I believe. Why could'nt SCR find a sports car, not a large muscle car to embarrass???
EarlShoes1 2 years ago
I agree, let's try that with a 'cuda or Challenger.
Still a nice video though lol
SoilentGr33n 2 years ago
I have run autocross with a 74 Plymouth Duster. similar suspension( torsion bars and leaf springs) as a Daytona. One event my old car had a faster time than these: 92 celica, , 03 350z, 03 mini cooper, 03 protege 5, 91 CRX, 96 eclipse, 91 MR2, 79 RX7, 87 Supra, , 97 Miata. to name a few.
EarlShoes1 2 years ago
I personally am a fan of classic American cars like the Daytona here, however, it was not built for the purposes shown in this test, therefore it is no surprise that the Odyssey outdid the Daytona; the Odyssey was built for family driving, like that shown here, the Daytona was not.
Both vehicles are respectable in their own right, personally I wouldnt give up my old MoPar (even if it is a 77 Aspen) simply because I like it, if I had a family, maybe something like the Odyssey would be better

ddrhero 3 years ago
The cars have a nearly half century age difference. The dodge would have taken any van or honda of the time period very easily. A new charger would also easily take the new van. And with some aftermarket suspension, the old car would take the new van. It is not sensible to put two cars against eachother with nearly a half century age diffenece, it's silly. Dodge has been producing drivetrain long before1910 and cars from 1912. Auto racing was born in the U.S. Domestics regularly win Lemans.
emerica2rk 3 years ago
thats the idea, the muscle car wouldn't keep up w/o modification. also its so shut up musclefags who brag on and on about how good their cars are. also, if dodge has been making cars since 1910, why are they -still- so shitty? makers like honda, hyundai and toyota make better products and have been around for far less time.
knobcheese69 3 years ago
Knobcheeselicker69,that daytona is a legend the honda not! Richard petty was the first to break 200mph in a daytona. The car shown here was detuned for the public.Lets take a new dodge vs a honda from the 60s. Your an idiot you dont know cars so shut your piehole!
68chargerlover 3 years ago
if its a legend, then it should be able to beat a minivan. honda was barely making performance cars in the 60s, but if you want to compete a dodge journey against a honda s800, you're more than welcome.
also of course its detuned for the public, they dont put racecars on the road, are you retarded?
knobcheese69 3 years ago 2
A suspension made 40yrs ago vs new?I would bet that the owner of they daytona wanted totally original so that means the tires on it are pollyglass not radials.I would say your the tard, I didnt say race car I said detuned meaning smaller cam and less compression.I'll take the legend you take the rice

>rice
>stock minivan
learn how to use terminology, a stock minivan is not rice.
now what you say proves my point exactly. that car, like most muscle, is shitty, tired and old-tech. even if it was brand new, do you honestly think it would be 2 seconds faster?
>The car shown here was detuned for the public.
so if this car in the video was the high performance one, then the one for the public would be slower, am i right?
also if you swap it around, a honda s800 would roll a dodge caravan.
knobcheese69 3 years ago
See where your honda is in 40yrs and see what kinda value its worth, the daytona has won way more races then the honda ever will and its value has gone from 4grand new to 200grand so give it up

@PD19954 its not compared to the muscle cars, and you dont know cars troll boy. Ask your average person what the 2jz is and they will tell you a blender or can opener or something. Ask what car was the General Lee and most people will know it and daisy duke, both of which you wouldnt like.

@emerica2rk uhhh is that why it lost to the toyota 2000gt then?

Four cylinders are faster off the start and peppy at lower speeds,Little to do with brakes and handling. They should put it up against the newer 80's Dodge Daytonas and see if that POS Honda can keep up.
jaydenfre2413 3 years ago
what does it matter if a 2 tonne 200 hp car has 4 or 8 cylinders? if its slow, its slow. the number of cylinders has nothing to do with it.
knobcheese69 3 years ago
Four cylinders are self balanced engines and don't have to run crankshaft counterweights so they rev faster(less rotational and reciprocating mass),also four cylinders typically have lower gear ratio first and second gear transmission connected to them because they have less power .4 cylinders weigh less all together so they are faster off the line. The odyssey has a five speed and the Daytona has a 3 speed.
jaydenfre2413 3 years ago
The honda is a piecs of shit the daytona a car with value and is a legend.
68chargerlover 3 years ago
if its a piece of shit, its a real shame it beat a legend.
and lets see where a new dodge is in 40 years, lol. every time you insult the honda, you insult the dodge, because it is slower, less practical and more expensive.
knobcheese69 3 years ago
run the honda against the new daytona then or new challenger.Or a 40yr old honda vs the new challenger lets see how they differ, whats the techology difference. The daytona is a classic the honda isnt give it up loser
68chargerlover 3 years ago
how about, in the spirit of this test, we run a honda s800 against a dodge caravan? i already said that. it is a 40 year old honda vs a brand new dodge minivan.
also you keep saying the dodge is a classic. how does that make any difference to the car at all? its still slow and overpriced.
knobcheese69 3 years ago 2
Dont matter what you run,the daytona will always be wanted over the honda even if they run a 40, 50 60yr old car against a new honda. You bring your honda and I'll run my 40 yr old charger lets see who wins
68chargerlover 3 years ago
well, considering an s800 would be faster than the minivan around an autocross track, i would probably say the honda would be.
and how does it matter how much the car is wanted? all it means is the driver is more likely to be a bitch and drive it slowly and the car/parts are all expensive and kept by hoarders.
knobcheese69 3 years ago 2
actually it's not just minivans, it;s already been proven that Japanese cars and European cars are a level beyond American cars in handling and cornering abilities.

Most Muscle cars from the 60s to the 70s didn't have performance numbers like modern cars. My wife's Subaru Forester 0-60 in 5.4 sec and sub 14 sec 1/4 mile, plus 2 kids and a dog! Only a couple muscle cars have numbers like that stock.
mikxt 3 years ago
Wow you dont know much about the cars from the 60s or early 70s. For one they were 3 to 4 grand vs your car which is 20 to 30 grand. And for second they had pollyglass tires when muscle cars got the times they did they were smoking the tires down most of the track,no traction and getting 14s

JangoFettaCheeze 3 years ago 2
WTF THE ODYSSEY IS A MINIVAN!!!! NOT A RACE CAR!! but to stand up to a charger like that, its got some balls!
Davaith 3 years ago 2
It'd be easy to out-brake the Daytona - Chrysler only fitted 4 wheel drums!!!
As for unusual comparisions - I recall a 1980 Motor Trend comparo between a Honda Civic 1.5 and a Porsche 924 - the outcome was in the Honda's favour!
joh2 3 years ago
So the honda gets penalized for being lighter, yet the Dodge has 2x more displacement, more power, and more torque.
Seems unfair, maybe the dodge should have been penalized.

If you ask me, they shouldn't have loaded up the minivan with those 4 women. It's not Honda's fault Dodge made a porky little fucker.
waveformdistortion 4 years ago
Your mom made a porky little fucker and we dont talk about you. How much will the honda ever be worth and how much is a daytona? The need to compare cars of similar years. The daytona is a cool car and mini vans suck ass.
68chargerlover 4 years ago
"68chargerlover" huh? Somebody sounds a little biased to me. This test had nothing to do with the car's worth, just it's handling ability. Cars these days just keep getting heavier and heavier with all the new safety regulations, yet this oversized people mover is still 400 pounds lighter than the old Charger. Really, that just makes the Charger look pathetic. What's worse is that even with the unfair advantage, the minivan is still faster, more comfortable, and more versatile.
waveformdistortion 4 years ago
Umm how are cars getting heavier and heavier if the Odyssey is 400 pounds LIGHTER than a smaller car?
rkj4107 4 years ago
Um......Safety regulations. Add those same regulations to that charger and it would also be MUCH heavier.
minitstop 3 years ago
who said it was faster -.- take the same 2 cars and put them on a nascar oval track and see who wins
roflman 3 years ago
Because making a gentle transition between a straight and a long, smooth, banked left hand corner is a true test of a car's handling and braking capabilities, right? As I've already said, that's what this test was about. Face it, old muscle cars are good looking and can make tons of power, but they're far from the best cars in the world when you stop looking at them through a heavy tint of nostalgia.
waveformdistortion 3 years ago 6
LOL on the first part, and well said all together.

Yeah... the comparison is unfair, but interesting, showing each car is special. I would still take a Charger Daytona over the Odyssey any day!
TripleZ89 4 years ago
This car was never designed to corner but there are chargers that have been retrofitted with racks instead of the sla suspension and honda loses its ass half the time. how convenient they picked a 30 yr old car to compete against, the new chargers are designed for this and they didnt pick on them why? Because vans are top heavy and cant drift, Oh but that new badass Hemi can. Stick to what you know wal-mart shoppers, against even a neon SXT your van would throw parts keeping up..Lol!

To the people who're always saying that anything from overseas beat domestic: Go suck a Japanese cock if that's what u like. you actually take this van seriously. if you want a fast honda, buy a 1990 Honda crx with no motor, and swap a b18c5 type r motor with the limited slip trans axle.
the only reason American cars dont handle like your little rice buckets is because they weight 2000lbs more.
its the same thing with European lightweight cars. domestic manufactures they focus on the heavy, yet power cars. "muscle cars" are the nicest cars ever built. but they give us a bad name in road racing.

VinceThe123456 4 years ago
imo: the odyssey is the best looking and most fun to drive minivan out there (iv driven all 2007s); i would never buy a minivan but if i had to it would be the odyssey hands down. The toyota siena would be second but i don't like its looks. I despise the older Dodge/Chrysler vans, the new ones are alot better. GMs vans are ugly as shit... oh wait they are shit. kia and hyundai's are good overall but very bland looking, esp on the outside.

msiddi01 4 years ago
You do know that the lowered horsepower was because of a change in the calculations. Many other cars had the same sort of change. For example, the Toyota Sequoia changed from 282 HP to something like 270 HP. Nothing changed with the engine.
