I was a weatherman/reporter in Tuscaloosa in the 1990s and I was in one county jail on a story -- may have been Pickens I can't remember exactly but what I CAN remember with perfect clarity: it was extremely HOT, loud, and I was paralyzed with fear when one of those inmates gave me this "look" -- something in his eyes I mean I can fight as well as a 5'7" 180lb suburban Chicago spoiled kid can fight, but this guy - would have utterly obliterated me in 3 seconds. i did that for like 3 weeks during a summer job. We weren't chained but it was hard work. I was paid like 13 $/h? we smoked like 2 doobies on the way to the highway with our boss and then a couple more during the day while walking. Found a couple of wallet with money in them too!

I was a weatherman/reporter in Tuscaloosa in the 1990s and I was in one county jail on a story -- may have been Pickens I can't remember exactly but what I CAN remember with perfect clarity: it was extremely HOT, loud, and I was paralyzed with fear when one of those inmates gave me this "look" -- something in his eyes I mean I can fight as well as a 5'7" 180lb suburban Chicago spoiled kid can fight, but this guy - would have utterly obliterated me in 3 seconds. It was a scary place. Great post!

Black people are over-represented amongst poorer communities in America. If more black people are convicted of violent crimes than whites it's not because if their RACE but because of a whole littany of problems associated with POVERTY.
It's worth reading some sociology books about crime. Opinions are all very well but informed opinions are better.

It's also a matter of societal ills. When a crack can get you 25 years and 94% cocaine gets you probation there's a problem. But who is more likely to have what? A vast majority of black men are in prison for being under the influence or being a street pharmacist. Not murder or other violent crimes as people are propagandized into believing. I read book Life Inside Leavenworth Prison (great book) and a longtime warden there said "Bullies grow up to be one of two things: a criminal or a cop" -- we just heard it from the horse's mouth. It's the best form of punishment ever. Thieves shouldn't waste more money by being incarcerated and provided for in prison.You got to earn your living somehow, and that applies to felons too. It helps the economy, the felons can do something during the day and have no time to think about escape or shank manufacture.

okay heres where alot of you get it fucked up. if they dident wanna work they wouldent be working.. they rather do that then sit in a cell. there choice. and the reason they quite was because it was to dangerouse for people to escape and im sure had something to do with it being inhumane im not sure on that part though. jsut letting yall know they have a choice in it..if they dident want to they wouldent.

Ask yourself how could this be cruel and unusual punishment. When this is work that people who do work do day in and day out. I guess if you get a job tarring roads that is cruel and unusual punishment. The only thing missing is the pay. Your teaching these people hey get a job. Don't get into trouble. Or your going to wind up having to work anyway. Chain gangs work like a bandit in reducing prison populations. Loitering, drug dealing etc.

See many criminals are lazy. They have nothing to do all day but get into trouble. You send them to prison hey thats just more laying around planning trouble. You make them work HARD LABOR. Like they should be doing in the first place. They avoid trouble like nothing you ever seen. If they are going to be put to work on a chain gang. See its working they don't want to begin with.

The problem what happened to the Chain Gang. Is that it was deemed to harsh. Unjust punishment. What really happened was the releasing of a criminal tidal wave after these camps were shut down. People loiterers, drug dealers, rapists, murderers. Had nothing to face but lazing in prison with free meals. This guy the video maker tried to nip chain gangs being resurrected in the bud. By making this film. The reason? Alabama reinstated the chain gang.

one reason so many african american are in prison look at how they commit crimes,in the wide open they sell drugs on any corner they dont have respect for any one, they drag down their neighborhood.they are selling a small amount of the white folks and mexican drugs,and they are paying a high price for it.if any one want justice stay out of the courts system.i will not support crimes,do right,and be right.you dont have to commit crimes.stop laying everything on white people

@mikeg642000 Actualy prison is not a place of punishment. It was created to be a place of correction & rehabilitation. thats why its called The Correctional Facility. Or Correctional Institution. There was a time Prison had education.GED, college degrees. Mental & social counseling, skill trade training.Brick laying,metal work,electrician etc. But prison is a public traded billion dollar industry. they stopped that programing & replaced it with Chain gangs & industry production.
