  • Jack Nicholson was the best and also my favorite Joker!

  • Goddamit Bob you just had to go and screw things up in the end!!

  • Jack was so the original Joker.

The was he dance and jokes around haha!

  • Jack was born for this part.

  • lot of weird shit here:

    1) they let a (supposed) stranger into their building

    2) noone knows there's a bunch of guys with machine guns just waiting outside the door.

    3) don't Grissom's guys have guns? They just watch as Joker kills a guy for 20 seconds

    4) and shouldn't they draw their guns when the thugs come into the room? shouldn't they at least put up a fight? They outnumber the Joker's guys

    5) why did the joker put on that whole show if he was just planning on killing them all anyway?

  • @zachmasterzach but don't worry ppl, I already know what the answer to all these questions is. He is the clown prince of darkness. My argument is invalid. STFU.

  • @zachmasterzach if you pay attention to what they say, they all thought the joker was representing the original guy he killed ( they didnt know he killed him ) . it also seemed like they were in that building......... so the joker had complete control

  • @zachmasterzach

    1) what stranger? everyone knew Jack Napier

    2) Joker's goons could've waited until everyone was inside before getting into position

    3) haven't you ever seen a gangster movie before? no-one brings guns to a meeting

    4) Joker's goons have machine guns, they would've only had a pistol at the most

    5) you're really asking why the JOKER would put on a show??

  • But they all thought Jack was dead. Other than that, good points.

  • The only thing I don't like is the whole no make-up thing. OH WAIT.

  • Anyone who dislikes this should kill themselves.

  • @EXCAESAR: more like be killed by the Joker. Lol

  • Jack's joker on the other hand.. is actually scary because he does reflect how a true insane killer would behave.. He behaves for his entertainment only and doesn't need to show off to get a point across..He has guts but he's not stupid enough to put himself in a situation he can't control..

  • I've worked in mental hospitals for almost 15 years now. Ok guys here's the thing about jacks joker and ledgers. Ledgers joker was more over the top and written by Hollywood for entertainment purposes. In no way does he reflect a true insane killer. If your over the age of 25 and don't base your knowledge on the insane and killers by Hollywood there is no argument.. people who are on the level of insanity that ledgers character was on are unable to function to the level in the movie

  • You guys are a bunch of queers

  • People always say shit like 'Heath Ledger was a more realistic pyschotic Joker',okay, yeah he was good in that respect, but Nicholson will always be the best Joker,as the Joker was meant to be.

  • @howiescream I disagree with those who say Ledger's Joker was psychotic: he was far too in control of the situation and everything he did had a motive. Plus I don't like how Nolan had him explain his actions and motivations in every scene. He was always justifying himself and bestowing his views on the nature of society. Jack's version was just insane- he had no agenda and was all the more unpredictable for it. For example when he killed Bob, you just didn't see it coming.

  • epic!

  • jack is dead my friend you can call me the joker. and as you can see im alot happier now.

  • Jack nicholson's version of the joker got mad swagger.

  • Keep pressing 1:04. XD

  • "ooh I've got a live one here" This guy is hilarious xD

  • Haven't you ever heard of the healing power of laughter...

  • This is truely the better joker. Heath Jedgers Joker was too just dark and too much of just a psychopathic killer, besides the whole pencil gag and the grenade "blow this out of porportion" thing he wasnt too funny. Jack Nicholsons joker was a psyco killer and also funny. He almost makes you want to like him in a way. The joker in my mind will always be Jack

  • Heath Ledger's joker seemed a hell lot more darker and a flat out whackjob. They are both pretty awesome in their own rights.

  • Oh, it'll be a hot time in the old town tonight!

  • Forget the Godfather

    Forget Scarface

You got the Joker running shit now!

  • @Tomahawk511 HAHAHAHA

  • @Tomahawk511 forget the godfather? are you stupid?

  • Comment removed

  • "Ooooh, Oh, I got a live one here! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH" - Great line

  • Life's been good to me...

  • Four fans have no sense of humor.

  • You're a vicious bastard, Rotelli! And uh I'm glad you're dead! HAHAHAHAHA! I'm glad you're dead!

  • Thats how i need 2 shake my boss hand!

  • Nicholson is unbelievable!!!!! What a grin!!! What a psycho!!!!

DC's idea of the joker met the perfect acting!!!!!

  • While I admit that Heath Ledger's Joker had unique strengths over

the one set forth by Jack Nicholson, I have to give cudos to Nicholson

for making the Joker as despicable as possible. In "The Dark Knight",

Heath Ledger's Joker is so visibly scarred by mental illness and self-loathing

that you ALMOST feel sorry for him. In "Batman" (1989), Jack Nicholson

portrays the Joker as a thoroughly unsympathetic monster with no regard

    for anyone or anything.

  • @kwg2000

You can never get a bad performance from anyone who portrays The Joker... period.

Romero, Nicholson, Hamill, Ledger were all on their "A" game with their own interpretations of the character.

  • @kwg2000 : Great observations. Nicholson's Joker is truer in spirit to the comic book version. The Joker is not (by design) a sympathetic character. He feels and behaves as if he is completely justified in his actions no mater how insane. A result of his unique brand of mania.

  • And whatswith that stupid grin.... LOL!

  • I like to day dream in this Joker is Pinkie pie killing Gilda. X3

  • geez I need to find my VHS tape

  • Nobody wants a war ha!

  • Jack made the blueprint for Ledger or anyone else that steps in the Joker role.

  • @troy102282,

True, but being the stepping-stone can mean being underneath another. A blue-print is the general idea; Ledger filled in the blanks.

Though, who can deny Nicholson's brilliance? I certainly can not. :)

  • @whiteboy7176

I can think of half a dozen Nicholson quotes right now, the only thing Ledger stood out with was "Why so serious?"

  • @whiteboy7176 For me at least, "filling in the blanks" is exactly what's wrong with Ledger's Joker and TDK in general. Everyone's dialogue is bogged down with forced exposition and self jusification. There's little to wonder about any of those characters because they are always telling the audience what's going on in their minds and explaining the nature of the Joker/society/the movie ad nauseam.

  • this is the real joker right here.

  • antwon got a little hot under the collar

  • excellent scene, disturbingly funny :)

  • Plus this was the Batman I remember watching when I was younger

  • Jack and nolan were the best jokers

  • Wow this clip is how I feel about Steve Jobs! Take that Z3th!!

  • @Trickyfix Same here! :D

  • Best fucking scene ever

  • Jack was as true to the actual Batman comics as you can get, the Grinning Death, the handbuzzers, Smilex, etc. Heath Ledger, Nolan's interpretation, but more along the lines of action-packed than Jack, and not supernatural like Jack either.

  • "NOW GET OUT OF HERE! And think it over hehehe."

Great performance, really shows The Jokers aggression as well as his humour

  • "And think it over!" LMAO! As if they ACTUALLY have a choice. lol

  • Heath said that he couldn't do what Jack did with his performance, and the fact is Nolan's universe is more real world than the comic book world of Batman. I will always prefer Jack's performance, because to me he was born to play that role, but Heath was still refreshing and different for the character and he brought alot of new stuff to the table. I love them both!

  • I like both Jack Nicholson's and Heath Ledger's Jokers, but for different reasons. Jack Nicholson's is menacing, yet funny and charismatic, yet Heath Ledger's is dark, intelligent, and so facinating, you can't take your eyes off him. Which do I like better? I think it's a tie.

  • At 0:52 and 0:53 you can't even see Jack because of the smoke. LOL

  • Comment removed

  • 0:15 till 0:24 is my fave part of this scene ! :P

  • Grease them now? lol

  • RIP Heath, great joker he was. So too is big Jack, Jack was so natural it's scary.

  • @ChuckyDoll10

Exactly. Ledger had to litterally go off the deep end to play the joker, where as Nicholson just acted himself lol.

  • Oh there'll be a hot time, in the old town tonight!!!!

  • I'd rather see Mark Hamill play in this movie.

  • @basdevoogt Mark Hamill was just a voice actor and Nicholson was good enough.

  • Heath was good but Jack seemed more fun

  • @Aldiggy2000 Also, you can tell, by the scene, that Heath used as basis for his Joker Nicholson's version and just added a darker and modern terrorist logic and feel to the character.

  • He's nothing compared to Heath ledger

  • @magicangel33 jack made the joker a classy villian and heath made him a total freak you can chose which one you like....

  • @REPTILEMAN561 but a villain isn't suppose to be 'classy'. Well some yes, but whenever i heard of the joker (Before i even saw the movie) I always had imagined a freak. and i guess i just have a thing for crazy physcopaths lol. but if you prefer Jack then thats your opinion and i respect it. But my choice is Heath :D

  • @magicangel33 - Heath was great (RIP), but I think people compare his Joker with Jack's too much. They totally different.

  • @ChuckyDoll10 they we're some similar scenes but both acted in their own ways

  • I don't care who ppl think is the best, but MAN, Jack Nicholson is one FANTASTIC actor!!!

  • The Joker role was made for Jack.

  • I think the Joker inhaled some laughing gas.

  • ALL JOKERS ARE DIFFERENT FROM THE MOVIES/SHOWS get the HELL off your high horse ... holy shit . Jack nicholson.... he was the joker from the comic mixed with a DARK humor ... the comic book sort of joker if you will . the Cesar Romero Joker ... comic book mainly. Mark Hamill's joker(obviously TV) nonethless awesome . Heath Ledger a DARK and more realistic style Joker . ALL DIFFERENT FOR DIFFERENT SETTINGS all jokers are GREAT just your pick on which you like the most . not which is the best .

  • Jack was the bomb in this role and Ledger ok but not even close to Jack.

    Deal with it!

  • Giving the Joker an origin story was a mistake.

  • Other way around, this movie was a joke. Jack Nicholson carried it.

  • This is still the best Batman movie! Not even Dark Knight is better. That movie was a joke and shouldn't have broke box office records. If anything it was a dissapointment.

  • @MediaWire wtf and y is that?

  • When you hear him talk, you NEVER expect a laugh like that to come out of the same mouth.

  • lol 1:49 "c'mon get outta heea"

  • @dreaded666 - me likes that too, 'C'mon get outta heaa', hahahahah lol.

  • The reason Nicholson was epic cause he actually played A Joker!!! all the little pranks and the way he killed ppl was comedic hence Joker!!! Ledgers was just diff type, still both good acting

  • 4 people have been using brand X

  • The first time I watched this I couldn't stop laughing at the "I'm glad your dead" part, I love Jack

  • whats with the stupid grin? lifes been good to me xD

  • "Grease em all? Oh, you are a sick SOB for telling it... I'M GLAD YOU'RE DEAD!"

  • IM GLAD YOUR DEAD AHAHAHAHAHAHHA

  • Frank Castle would do the same pretty much.

  • This is one of my favorite scenes. I also love the Joker's commercial.

  • Hit nine, Then Hit nine again every time it gets to 3:20

  • I'm glad I'm not the only one that thought of that when bin Laden's ticket got punched.

  • You are a vicious bastard, bin Laden... I'm glad you're dead.

  • @Kev95682 "Haven't you ever heard of the healing power of laughter" Bin Laden didn't.

  • @Kev95682 PHAAAAAHAHAAHHAAHAHAImGladYourDeadPhahahaha!!!hahahaaahaaGladYourdeadHA - HA - HA - HA!

  • @supah1337B

Damn... you beat me to the punch on that one. I was thinking the same thing and was going to respond, but then I saw you already did it.

  • @DJCandyManMike The laugh he does is the best.

  • @supah1337B

Absolutely! People can talk all they want about Heath Ledger's performance being superior for this reason or that, but anyone who says Heath can beat Jack at laughing is just plain delusional!

  • @Kev95682 (maniacal laughter)

  • 3:08

  • This was the first thing that popped into my head this morning.

  • @marxmith Same here!!!!!!! 3:08

  • The Ultimate Batman. Jack Nicholson amazingly insane - just being himself. Michael Keaton was awesome as Batman too, we must not overlook that.

  • This was my 1st ever exposure too batman Jacks Joker in my oppinion is one of the greatest Jokers ever too appear on the big screen

  • Nicholson is 74. Man, that sucks. All the truly great actors are turning into old men. All we have left are douche bags like Vin Diesel.

  • There are a million different versions of the Joker. I pretty much like them all. I don't see the point in choosing a favorite between Ledger and Nicholson. They're equally bad ass.

  • @CertifiedGooner729 That's the way I feel. For what they were going for, all the actors that have played the Joker did a fantastic job and it's not fair to debate which is the best because they were all so different

  • @40Pacino Yep. I mean, if you read the graphic novels, you'll notice huge differences. His style constantly changes. That's why I hate when people say "Ledger's joker was closer to the comic books." It's not necessarily true.

  • HAPPY 74TH BIRTHDAY, JACK NICHOLSON, AND THAT'S THE BOTTOM LINE!!!

  • The only Joker Impression I'm good at is Mark Hamil's. I can probably imitate Heath Ledger's but I agree with some of them that Jack Nicholson's is definitely the hardest.

    Love That Joker.

  • 2:30 LMFAO

  • I'm trying to imitate jack nicholson joker and Heath ledger joker's laugh and voices. I'm actually doing pretty good, but the jack nicholson is much harder than Heath ledgers.

  • Antoine is little hot , hahaha :-)

  • Joker's minions in this movie looked stupid. The leather coats and the sunglasses...Tim Burton fucked that up.

  • @nmoravec1 Tim Burton fucked your mom up

  • dude that line cracks me up...im sittin here laughin like the joker...."im glad youre dead" ahhHAAHahahAAHAHAHAHAHAAa

  • much better than leadger

  • Jack's smile here is very skeleton like, which is how I envision the Joker. His conversation with the charred skeleton at the end of the clip emphasises this.

  • JACK NICHOLSON CAN TURN INTO ANY CHARACTER HE WANTS.

  • he is sooooooo much better than heath ledger!!!! he is actually funny and crazy. not just just insane like heath ledger.

  • @REKONBALL2 i agree. Heath Ledger made The Joker look like the kinda guy you wanna just knock the fuck out for being a creepy, annoying cunt.

  • Repeat it at 1:22 lmao Amazing !!

  • Its really hard to compare jack and heath, cuz theyre so different. Way i see it, both are awesome in their own ay

  • What's the Observer from "Fringe" doing in a 22-year-old movie? :P

  • NOW GET OUTTA HERE!

  • To me, Jack's portrayal is the bridge between Romero's and Heath's. He's sick, twisted, and murderous, but he thinks it's all hilarious which, in my opinion, is what the Joker should be. Don't get me wrong, Ledger's performance is great and I think Cesar Romero's is a hoot to watch, but to me, this will always be the definitive live action Joker, even if I wasn't even born yet when this one came out. "I'm glad you're dead" and that laugh seals it as twisted Joker humour, in my opinion.

  • @Hawkstar270

You summed it up better than just about anyone else.

  • @Hawkstar270 I agree with you 100%.

  • This is by far one of the best scenes in the movie! It really drives home the reason Jack is such a joy to watch in this role. Not only was he the best Joker of all time, but in my personal opinion, this is the best performances I've ever scene in any movie.

  • This beats that stupid dissapearing pencil trick by any day.

  • @draco1204

That was actually awesome...but this is better. Classic Joker.

  • @draco1204 Oh hell yeah. Pencil trick was like what a two second squick moment? In this movie we literally watch as a guy FRIES before our eyes and then look in horror as the Joker cracks jokes at his smoking corpse. Now that's dark.

  • Best image for me is right as the Joker shakes his hand, he raises his eyebrows.

Best line is "Oh, I got a live one here, HAHAHAH"

  • 2 people "got a little hot under the collar" ;)

  • HOORAY FOR JACK"S JOKER!!!

  • I love the little chuckle he does at 0:31 after he says "well tony"- the fact that the joker knew he was going to burn tony alive with the hand buzzer made him laugh- joker is completely nuts

  • Comment removed

  • 2 people have never heard of the healing power of laughter.

  • The Joker was supposed to laugh and tell jokes. While Heath was very good in TDK, he was more a manic-depressive Joker who didn't tell a single joke. He was tormented, one could say "emo." The real Joker is a riot. He's having fun while killing people. That's why Nicholson's Joker is my favorite. He's genuinely fun, and makes you laugh at his madness.

  • "I'm glad youre dead..HAHAHAHAHAHAHA"

  • whoa! i got a live one here!

  • 2 people didn't resurface. =D

  • My fav scene with Jack in the movie!

    Jack is Joker, no doubt!

  • wow hes more evil

  • @fuckgd1 and funny about it

  • @retrofann1 how he just laughs after the end at the dead guy so crazy

  • "Antoine got a little hot under the collar." - HAHAHAHAHAHA!!! Jack was awesome and so was Heath. both do an excellent interpretation of the Joker. Jack's was a bit whackier/campier, while Heath's was more disturbing and creepy. however, both were still funny and psychotic which is what the Joker is

  • @bofo85 But Ledger's joker wasn't funny at all. Nicholson's joker was a riot. Further, I don't think Ledger's Joker was all that psychotic either, rather he is just an angst filled philosopher that believes in nihilism and, predictably, wants to make a mockery of a non existent moral order. Nicholson's Joker however is totally out of his mind, he has no logic whatsoever and simply derives pleasure from watching people die. A more terrifying villain is one that you cannot possibly understand.

  • Jack Nicholson was believably insane

  • Completely evil....LOVE THIS SCENE

  • "Antoine got a little hot under the collar" .."You're crazy" lol, my childhood favorite, and I think still the best Batman movie

  • "What's with that stupid grin?" He says "Life's been good to me ah he he" lol

  • It's going to be a hot one ah in the old town tonight! classic!

  • best version of joker ever

  • @ArkLover27 Heath Ledger is better

  • @PhantomHitman07 dead ledger sucks oops, I meant heath ledger XD

  • @dreaded666 I bet your girlfriend broke up with you because she fell in love with Heath Ledger that's why you hate him so much... I really feel sorry for you pal!!!

  • @PhantomHitman07 Yes, I am pissed off because my girlfriend left me for heath ledger. I didn't think anyone would figure that out lol

  • @dreaded666 Jack Nicholson sucks!!!

  • @dreaded666 I think Jean-Claude Van Damme can act better than Jack-Off Nicholson!!!

  • @ArkLover27 I thought Cesar Romeros joker was good, but nonethless i respect the work that Nicholson,Ledger, and Mark Hamil did for the joker.

  • @ArkLover27 the only perfect equal so far is Heaths
