In 11 days we are getting a kitten that looks just like this 1 - we are not getting it off a breeder so dont say stuff like your an animal abuser and stuff - my mums friend had a cat and thought it was a boy but then it got pregnant and had kittens and they couldnt afford to keep them so they were selling them and we brought 1. We are not taking it away from its mother until it is ready to leave the mother - and the mother will die shortly anyway so we are keeping it

I've weaned several kittens with dry kitten food. I softened as she said with warm water. Once they got the idea, all of them chowed down. They all grew up to be strong healthy cats.

Clearly she's not an expert because kittens aren't supposed to have dry food nor are cats its not really bad for them but wet food is best. And if it is young like my kitten is 6 weeks you use Milk Replacer from a bottle. Meow Mix is the worst food! Never buy it. Also never put water in the food it makes sort of a bacteria "soup" for the kitten.

@dejamonae0309 I grew up with cats and know quite a bit about them and how to care for them and this is the very first time I've heard someone say wet food is better than dry food. Yes, Meow Mix and all the common cheap Wal-Mart brands aren't good. I started feeding my cat a dry food recommended by a vet and he's healthier than ever. I would never feed him a wet food, it makes him sick.

I'm weening my 4 week old kitten & I'm just starting to after she ripped off the top of her bottle. I figured she no longer wants to be bottle fed and she grew all of her teeth. She instantly learned how to drink the milk in a small bowl & I also gave her a small portion of canned food. She loves it and I'm glad I don't have to bottle feed her anymore, because it was stressful.

@fuaijie It will take some getting use to but you have to give your kitten patience. Have you put the warm milk in the bowl? The kitten will usually pop their head over the bowl to sniff it and if it's hungry it'll drink from the bowl. You can also try applying a little of the canned food to the milk or put some hard food in the milk to see if it'll like it. If that doesn't work then see your vet to see what they can do about that.

i just got a kitten she was a stray with her mom but mom ran off, and so my mom let her be apart of the fam and gave her to me for christmas :D she would've died if we didnt do that, she was so starved to the point where her stomach wasnt used to eating, but she's doing well now :)

Thank you so much for the tutorials. I have one question: Can you feed kittens Tuna (tin tuna in brine)? plz let me know. Also my next door neighbours kitten has fleas and i did point it out to them and told them to take it for treatment but they haven't. The kittens losing weight very fast. Is it going to die? What do i do?

@reebee12345 nutritionally, it depends more on the brand than if it's dry or canned, and dry is usually cheaper than canned food of equal quality. for feeding to kittens you want to start with wet (either canned or dry soaked in water) since they can't chew the hard kibble easily. Over time soak the dry food for a shorter amount of time, so the kittens get used to the hard dry food, untill you don't soak it at all

i have read from many many articles and they said regular milk isn't appropiate for growing kittens. they need special proteins and vitamins from the kind of milk they drink, or something like that.

@zynation it's like baby formula versus normal cow's milk. There are diffrent nutrients in it, that are designed to be able to feed the babies of the animal that produces the milk. So cow's milk isn't the right nutrition for kittens, but the formula that you can buy at a pet store is made to be extremely similar to cat's milk. Also, most cats are lactose intolerant, so normal cow's milk will upset their stomach

I used the bits and gravy wet food. At first I would take a few of the bits(like 2 or 3 single bits) and put it to the kitten's lips. After some sniffing the kitten usually licks it at least once. After letting the kitten sniff and lick the bits for a bit I will proceed with the bottle. I slowly increase the amount of wet food each day and hand feed them the wet bits on the first week. They soon favored the wet food. Eventually i put the formula in a bowl and fed wet food instead.

Kibbles are the best. You can let kibbles out the whole day and kitty is gonna take food when hungry. Wet food and milk spoils after a while.
