  • wow the creator of that hover droid/assist bot is awsome im in the middle of making my own and i have but one problem...how do you get it to not go write in your face withot disabling the up and down option on the follower

    Did you already try using a "score giver"? :) Just attach one to the bot, set it to 10 points and wire it to the death mechanism of the bot.

  • This is a pretty simple level. It may seems complicated but it's really simple. This is really a good level .

  • If a sackbot could pick up a jetpack, That would be cool. Since what if you needed to control one on the other side of a wall that has to go high in order to pull a switch that will let you through.

    You could replicate the jetpack movement by sticking a couple of movers to the Sackbot. Just add decorations that look like a jetpack, and add one or two smoke emitters, and you're done :)

  • Hey, I made a little robot kind of like this but even with a gyroscope and a material tweaker for 0 friction. But it always gets too close and scrapes across the floor and starts to roll! Is there Any way i can stop it getting so close?

  • @mustachedisaster When games are being made they go through stages. In Alpha it's getting the basic framework of the game, and often the game won't have any real polish to it at all. In Beta the game is mostly done and they're just testing features to make sure everything works perfectly, as well as balancing and optimization. When a game "goes gold" that means it's finalized and will be soon burnt to discs for you and I to enjoy.

  • @Noshire I've tried those. The block thing takes forever, and is impractical in many ways. Explosives destroy the sackbot too- not to mention emitting the explosive so close to a wall is dang near impossible.

    Well, you could emit the explosives in an empty back-layer, behind the destructible material. That's what I did in my planetary tanks level, to create massive craters for the meteors. That way, you can form the landscape without harming your sackbots.

    The Creatinator is nothing but an emitter attached to your head, so - yes, absolutely. You could try to create some sort of Pikmin-like gameplay, where you have to spawn and navigate your own little sackbot army, for example :)

    Yeah, you can map any combination of buttons to any possible actions. There's literally no limits on how you can combine, cross or otherwise manipulate the controls.

    Actually, there already IS a lemmings prototype for LBP2 :D I don't know whether a video has been uploaded yet, but it definitely already looks promising!

  • @natsamsonPS3 I've been working on a lemmings game too, but unfortunately I got stuck after making the lemming stop, commit suicide, climb and build... I can't make the lemmings dig! :(

    I recommend either working with small, destructible pieces of material glued together, or emitting some sort of explosives to "dig" through the ground.

    You could, of course. I found fireballs to be more interesting than ordinary paintballs, so I chose the creatinator instead.

    They were used. Every sackbot has a basic AI microchip I've put together, consisting of 10 or so different parts. The AssistBot itself is a bit more complex, with multiple chips for movement, buoyancy towards the walls, disabled friendly fire (will never directly shoot at sackboy if he gets in the way) and some other stuff.

    That would be rather unimaginative. I'm totally in favor of the basic IDEA of a sentry gun (be it a MW2-like one, more TF2 inspired or whatever), but I think it should appear in its own, original way, possibly tied to some clever gameplay (drawing its attention and letting it shoot against a button, for example).

    The flamethrower? It's the "creatinator", a hat that lets you aim and emit anything you choose; fireballs, in my case. You can let it emit paintballs, cows, ufos, even whole levels if you want.

    I mean it quite literally - the objects you emit can be as large as you want them to be. This means that you could capture a whole level and tell the creatinator to emit that. Of course, this probably wouldn't make much sense, but still, you COULD do it if you want :)

    Sorry to say that, but even if I wanted to, I couldn't share the beta with anyone - there are some security mechanisms that prevent the beta from being played on more than 1 PS3.

    Sound recording isn't in the game yet - you could technically mix a "sound" out of instruments using a music sequencer, but I've just used a preset sound. I think the sound recorder tool might ship with the retail version though.

    I love the assistbot, he'd damn fast! He got a lil stuck at times, and he got overwhelmed with all the bots, but it's a really nice demo. :>

    Yes. Didn't want to "fix" the screams because they were actually quite entertaining :) The unnecessary point increases are a bit annoying though, I'd definitely make this better in the retail version.

    The AssistBot has only got very basic pathfinding: Don't collide with walls/floor/ceiling (doesn't work for the glowing platform, forgot to declare it as an obstacle), follow player.

    Using waypoints or a trial-and-error AI, the pathfinding could be way better.

    Thanks for the comment :) I've only played the demo of Abe's Odissey back then... must have been like 7 years old. I still remember every detail of the demo though - this points towards it really being a great game :) Gotta play through the whole thing one day.
