The thing about west coast swing is that the dance is a lot of the girl dancing around the guy, especially for someone who just recently took up the dance. If you compaire the footwork for the lead and follow in WCS, you'll see that the follow has to travel at least 2x as much as the lead. Because of this, Lacey is going to look like she's out dancing him. For a lead who has only had about a week of training in WCS, this is a great performance and the judges were a bit too hard on them.
Wow, I'm as impressed with this guy now as much as the first time I saw them do this number. First off all, he looks smoking hot. Second, he doesn't miss a beat when things go wrong: the fall in this dance, his lost shoe in another. Of course Lacey can really sell this dance and I think she forgot the focus was supposed to be on Lance's ability this time. Nevertheless, what I saw of Lance was darn good. He gets my vote for Broadway! Oo-la-la!

I also saw them (at different times) in the DWTS tour, and they were both fantastic. Lance/Lacey remain one of my favorite couples of all the seasons. No NSYNC for me, but definitely a fan of L&L, plus Joey.
I like WCS, but it is not the right type of dance for this show. Most of the dances are already bad enough about being all about the women, but it's even more the case with WCS. Her choreography was fine and other pros have been getting away with dancing around their partners for several seasons. *cough*Julianne*cough*. Love her, but she does it and she knows it. Lacey and Lance at least handled it professionally.

I love Lacey, so much that I bothered to check out DwtS for the first time. When she was on SYTYCD, people accused her of hogging the spotlight. I didn't think she did that. The thing about her is that she has a natural star quality that makes you focus on her. At least, my eye is drawn to her when she dances. Combine this with having a partner who isn't as strong and doesn't have the same quality, and people think she's trying to get all the attention.

Sloppy. It doesn't help that we see Lacey dancing wcs so much it's easier to focus on the difference in quality. She was dancing alone. Who's the boss? I still love her to bits though... :-p
it looked like lance was doing close to nothing throughout this entire routine. but it doesn't surprise me because lacey, as brilliant as she is, has always been a bit of a spotlight hog. she was a lot like that on so you think you can dance and i guess it leaked over to DWTS. she really needs to work on that, like the judges said. we already know she can. we want to see lance be the star and not her.
Lacey doesn't enjoy hogging the spotlight. If people focus on her, it's the same reason why they focused on her brother Benji in SYTYCD. They've both got that extra something. Lance should be stepping up. That's how you improve. Self-pity gets you no where. If Lance wants to be the star, he has to work as hard as Lacey. What I don't get is why the judges always pick on Lacey when Julianne used to dance circles around Helio and other pros did the same with their stars. Be fair.
I think Benji and Lacey draw attention because they're always so confident and happy on stage. Their enthusiasm is infectious. People aren't used to pretty girls being loud and rebellious so it comes off as pretense to some people. I think that's why the judges are nicer to Julianne than her; they're not used to it. I agree that Lance should've stepped up instead of Lacey taking it down.
I'd say that Julianne and Derek are spotlight hogs. And people vote for THEM, not their celebrity partners. I don't think Lacey was hogging the spotlight at all. Lance was just not bringing his all to the table because of lack of confidence.
Lacey doesn't enjoy hogging the spotlight and I wish people would just realize that already. I noticed that she did everything possible to make Lance look good because in this dance she isn't dancing WCS like how we would see her dance with other partners. Like in the jitterbug where she lowered her kicks to match Lance's when she realized his weren't so high. Same with the Jive all focused on him, same with the rumba and tango, etc.
So totally agree. I keep saying that on here to people. And look at the part when Lance slipped and fell. Lacey's arm tightened to hold him up and then she pulled him backwards to the stage to help me get back on track with the dance.
(contd) In SYTYCD, she didn't "hog the spotlight". She never choreographed those routines but still stood out. But notice when she danced with Danny and Pasha she wasn't accused of hogging the spotlight? It's just because Neil and Kameron didn't really measure up performance wise and that's not her fault. They were good technical dancers, but there's nothing she can do to pull the performance level of theirs up.
are the people on here praising this routine delusional? this was terrible. and i completely agree with the judges. lacey created choreography that showcased her way more than him. lance looked like he was being used as a prop in this dance, and lacey was the main event. west coast swing is her area of expertise. its what she specializes in so its only natural for her to stand out more than him. but i think as a choreographer she could've given him more to work with...more to do.
Before you criticize us for being "delusional", perhaps you should try and understand the dance. WCS is about showcasing the lady, as many people have noted here. It is very difficult to showcase the man. What Lacey did was brilliant. She gave Lance, a beginner at WCS, a lot to do and used him well as a partner. Look at the heel slide, the cross-legged twist and the solo parts. That was excellent choreography on her part for him. The judges hardly had no right to tick her off like that.
Toni and Alec were CLUELESS about WCS footwork, utterly clueless, ugh...it wasn't even WCS at all! The judges had it out for Lacey on this one, maybe they wanted to nix WCS as one of the dance options. WCS rocks, it's the new wave in USA social dancing, these ballroomers have to get up to speed!
The judges are so damned biased. How could Toni and Alec get a higher score for their West Coast Swing than Lance and Lacey? Simply ridiculous! At least LL had the correct technique; TA evidently had no idea what this style entailed. And how could the judges just blew Lacey to pieces when they know so little about WCS? Seriously, put any one of those judges out there to dance this number and they'd fail miserably. JEEZ. SO PISSED OFF!

Whatever the judges say, I thought this was a really catchy dance, and I love all of Lance's dances (yay for rhyming!) because he and Lacey bring something fresh and funky to them, and they're always entertaining to watch. Although Brooke is a better technical dancer, I think Lance was robbed of that trophy! :(

They always picked on poor Lacey and Len always picked on Lance. Len hates anything new, different or country is what I tell everyone. He doesn't like Lacey because she's the fresh face this season. I don't think it's so much him having a pity party as the fact that he really does feel that way. Like he said, if you get told something often enough you begin to believe it. Lacey is an awesome dancer. I'm an *NSYNC fan from back in the day and I am very surprised at how much better Lance dances. And it's no doubt due to her skills. She's awesome, I love love love watching them dance!
I actually think that the couple's being kept in BECAUSE OF LACEY cos' she's just so brilliant. She blows me away everytime. I don't see why they got the lowest dance score this week.

I think of all the weeks, Lacey looked her best tonight (costume wise). It really suited her.
As for the dancing, I liked it, but I agree, Lance, who can DANCE, should have been showcased more. But on the other hand, so many other pros are guilty of dancing around their partner and aren't called out on it (Julianne, Karina, Kym) that it wasn't really fair to Lacey for the judges to call her out on it.
that always bothered me the season julianne was with helio . . . she would dance circles around him (she is a good dancer) and helio would do like one move and they would talk about how great he was . . . um, if i just stood next to julianne I could get at least a 15

Please Helio never fell in the middle of a dance, and Lance is suppose to be a dancer, helio was a race car driver who had more rhythm then Lance does.
the body roll at 2:54-2:56 is my favorite move that she does. i swear none of the other professionals make that move as sexy as she does.
i seriously dont understand the judges. just the week before they were saying that they didnt know any of these dances(west coast swing, hustle,jitterbug,salsa) and them BOOM! they act as though they've been experts on them their entire lifes.
Great choreography and music. Lacey really showed us how it is done. But if anyone every doubted that Lance was gay, his really show cased it here. He was passing for a straight guy until this routine. Sorry girls. And lately is looks as if Lacey has snapped out of her crush/flirtation with Lance too. She is more professional with him now.
This was a great dance, but in this show, they don't really care about Lacey, all the attention is on Lance. And she did most of the dancing. Even though it was really good, he didn't do much. Which actually helped them in the long run. Now all of their dances have more of Lance dancing.
I feel like they were jipped out of a high score. I think that Lance danced a lot, I've seen other Lacey WCS routines and she turned it down a lot. They can't just throw in a lot of tricks and WCS technique to a non-dancer and expect them to pull it off. I consider Lance a non-dancer inspite of his N'Sync dances because..c'mon, it's not like what he did was so technical at that time. I think he did well in this dance.
In my opinion, no, it isn't. It doesn't mean that it's not difficult but it doesn't take insane dance training as ballroom and ballet would to pull it off. The WCS cannot be faked and learned to the degree the judges expected in such a short time unless you have a really strong dance background. If she forced him to take it to the next level it would look really laboured and not entertaining, which is what the judges were supposed to be critiquing them on. What they did was perfectly fine.
I think Lacey just has such a high performance level she just draws you in...even on SYTYCD you would always just watch her no matter who her partner was.

Yeah, Lacey has this special quality about her dancing, you can't keep your eyes off her. She always outshines her partners. That makes it much more difficult to keep the focus on Lance in this routine.
i agree. it happens many times for me. I'll start watching Lance but then my attention immediately goes to Lacey and it will stay there for the rest of the dance and it isn't till the end when I realize i didn't pay attention to Lance.
True. She's got amazing charisma and the judges shouldn't penalize her for "outshining" her partner. I've been a fan since SYTYCD but even when I try to tear my eyes off her, I feel like I'm missing out because she's so talented. Even when she was a kid she had that special spark.

I'm so glad to FINALLY see some sweet West Coast Swing dancing on DWTS. I haven't been super excited about Lacey up until this point, but damn, she's got some nice WCS moves. I do agree with the judges though; many times it appears Lacey is the lead and Lance is the follow here. I could excuse that, but when Lance fell, it looked like Lacey was leading and she let him fall. If you're the lead, boy or girl, you don't let your follow fall on the floor, sorry.

Pretty funny. I dont usually watch DWTS because I've never really found it that entertaining (although I love dancing in general), and the only reason I am watching this season is Lacey and Lance. The judges can dislike lacey all they want, but I am sure her presence on this show is getting them much higher ratings than it would have otherwise.
wow! lacey is amazing and yes, the show is dancing with the STARS but lacey is an AMAZING dancer, and they need to back off of her. pretty much in all partnering dances the female is showcased more the the male. get over it judges!

it looked like lance was doing close to nothing throughout this entire routine. but it doesn't surprise me because lacey, as brilliant as she is, has always been a bit of a spotlight hog. she was a lot like that on so you think you can dance and i guess it leaked over to DWTS. she really needs to work on that, like the judges said. we already know she can. we want to see lance be the star and not her.

Lacey doesn't enjoy hogging the spotlight. If people focus on her, it's the same reason why they focused on her brother Benji in SYTYCD. They've both got that extra something. Lance should be stepping up. That's how you improve. Self-pity gets you no where. If Lance wants to be the star, he has to work as hard as Lacey. What I don't get is why the judges always pick on Lacey when Julianne used to dance circles around Helio and other pros did the same with their stars. Be fair.

I think Benji and Lacey draw attention because they're always so confident and happy on stage. Their enthusiasm is infectious. People aren't used to pretty girls being loud and rebellious so it comes off as pretense to some people. I think that's why the judges are nicer to Julianne than her; they're not used to it. I agree that Lance should've stepped up instead of Lacey taking it down.

I'd say that Julianne and Derek are spotlight hogs. And people vote for THEM, not their celebrity partners. I don't think Lacey was hogging the spotlight at all. Lance was just not bringing his all to the table because of lack of confidence.

Lacey doesn't enjoy hogging the spotlight and I wish people would just realize that already. I noticed that she did everything possible to make Lance look good because in this dance she isn't dancing WCS like how we would see her dance with other partners. Like in the jitterbug where she lowered her kicks to match Lance's when she realized his weren't so high. Same with the Jive all focused on him, same with the rumba and tango, etc.

So totally agree. I keep saying that on here to people. And look at the part when Lance slipped and fell. Lacey's arm tightened to hold him up and then she pulled him backwards to the stage to help me get back on track with the dance.

(contd) In SYTYCD, she didn't "hog the spotlight". She never choreographed those routines but still stood out. But notice when she danced with Danny and Pasha she wasn't accused of hogging the spotlight? It's just because Neil and Kameron didn't really measure up performance wise and that's not her fault. They were good technical dancers, but there's nothing she can do to pull the performance level of theirs up.

are the people on here praising this routine delusional? this was terrible. and i completely agree with the judges. lacey created choreography that showcased her way more than him. lance looked like he was being used as a prop in this dance, and lacey was the main event. west coast swing is her area of expertise. its what she specializes in so its only natural for her to stand out more than him. but i think as a choreographer she could've given him more to work with...more to do.

Before you criticize us for being "delusional", perhaps you should try and understand the dance. WCS is about showcasing the lady, as many people have noted here. It is very difficult to showcase the man. What Lacey did was brilliant. She gave Lance, a beginner at WCS, a lot to do and used him well as a partner. Look at the heel slide, the cross-legged twist and the solo parts. That was excellent choreography on her part for him. The judges hardly had no right to tick her off like that.

Toni and Alec were CLUELESS about WCS footwork, utterly clueless, ugh...it wasn't even WCS at all! The judges had it out for Lacey on this one, maybe they wanted to nix WCS as one of the dance options. WCS rocks, it's the new wave in USA social dancing, these ballroomers have to get up to speed!

The judges are so damned biased. How could Toni and Alec get a higher score for their West Coast Swing than Lance and Lacey? Simply ridiculous! At least LL had the correct technique; TA evidently had no idea what this style entailed. And how could the judges just blew Lacey to pieces when they know so little about WCS? Seriously, put any one of those judges out there to dance this number and they'd fail miserably. JEEZ. SO PISSED OFF!

Whatever the judges say, I thought this was a really catchy dance, and I love all of Lance's dances (yay for rhyming!) because he and Lacey bring something fresh and funky to them, and they're always entertaining to watch. Although Brooke is a better technical dancer, I think Lance was robbed of that trophy! :(

usually i want to punch samantha harris but i feel she was totally on in this interview . . . they really were gunning for lacey and as lance said on chelsea lately "west coast swing is about showcasing the girl." but good for lacey for not taking their bait (shannon elizabeth i'm looking at you). and it looked at the end like samantha was ready to throw down for lacey and lance. i think west coast swing is my new favorite style

I hate how they picked on Lacey. So unprofessional. I'm betting you not one of the judges understand West Coast Swing, or let alone know the techniques and how to dance it. Ridiculous! You can tell that Lacey was so mad, but she did a great job in being professional and holding back her comments. She's the champion, she knows what she's doing. Lance should step up. Lacey shouldn't compromise how good she is.

They always picked on poor Lacey and Len always picked on Lance. Len hates anything new, different or country is what I tell everyone. He doesn't like Lacey because she's the fresh face this season. No matter how talented she is, he isn't going to give her a break. Lance is gay, so to him that's different. I say country because remember how he treated Sara Evans? I don't think it's so much him having a pity party as the fact that he really does feel that way. Like he said, if you get told something often enough you begin to believe it. Like when parents tell their kids they're the bad ones, the kid usually lives down to their expectations. It's the same with having anyone keep bringing up how bad you are at something. I thought it was very brave of Lance to try to compete on this show after all of that. Love him and Lacey.

I think of all the weeks, Lacey looked her best tonight (costume wise). It really suited her.
As for the dancing, I liked it, but I agree, Lance, who can DANCE, should have been showcased more. But on the other hand, so many other pros are guilty of dancing around their partner and aren't called out on it (Julianne, Karina, Kym) that it wasn't really fair to Lacey for the judges to call her out on it.

that always bothered me the season julianne was with helio . . . she would dance circles around him (she is a good dancer) and helio would do like one move and they would talk about how great he was . . . um, if i just stood next to julianne I could get at least a 15

the body roll at 2:54-2:56 is my favorite move that she does. i swear none of the other professionals make that move as sexy as she does.
i seriously dont understand the judges. just the week before they were saying that they didnt know any of these dances(west coast swing, hustle,jitterbug,salsa) and them BOOM! they act as though they've been experts on them their entire lifes.

Great choreography and music. Lacey really showed us how it is done. But if anyone every doubted that Lance was gay, his really show cased it here. He was passing for a straight guy until this routine. Sorry girls. And lately is looks as if Lacey has snapped out of her crush/flirtation with Lance too. She is more professional with him now.

This was a great dance, but in this show, they don't really care about Lacey, all the attention is on Lance. And she did most of the dancing. Even though it was really good, he didn't do much. Which actually helped them in the long run. Now all of their dances have more of Lance dancing.

I feel like they were jipped out of a high score. I think that Lance danced a lot, I've seen other Lacey WCS routines and she turned it down a lot. They can't just throw in a lot of tricks and WCS technique to a non-dancer and expect them to pull it off. I consider Lance a non-dancer inspite of his N'Sync dances because..c'mon, it's not like what he did was so technical at that time. I think he did well in this dance.

In my opinion, no, it isn't. It doesn't mean that it's not difficult but it doesn't take insane dance training as ballroom and ballet would to pull it off. The WCS cannot be faked and learned to the degree the judges expected in such a short time unless you have a really strong dance background. If she forced him to take it to the next level it would look really laboured and not entertaining, which is what the judges were supposed to be critiquing them on. What they did was perfectly fine.

Yeah, Lacey has this special quality about her dancing, you can't keep your eyes off her. She always outshines her partners. That makes it much more difficult to keep the focus on Lance in this routine.

Yep, and if you watch Lance it only looks like he's walking around because he doesn't have the technique down yet. It takes a while to get footwork as smooth like Lacey's. She did great choreographing for someone who's only had 3 days to learn. Plus, the judges aren't even qualified to judge WCS.

Yes, other dancers have danced around the stars before, but mostly because they had to. Lacey doesn't have to do that, Lance can dance. She needs to give him the opportunity to do so. I really like that these two are edgy and fun, but it seems like they are both trying to be the "star"

I'm so glad to FINALLY see some sweet West Coast Swing dancing on DWTS. I haven't been super excited about Lacey up until this point, but damn, she's got some nice WCS moves. I do agree with the judges though; many times it appears Lacey is the lead and Lance is the follow here. I could excuse that, but when Lance fell, it looked like Lacey was leading and she let him fall. If you're the lead, boy or girl, you don't let your follow fall on the floor, sorry.

Pretty funny. I dont usually watch DWTS because I've never really found it that entertaining (although I love dancing in general), and the only reason I am watching this season is Lacey and Lance. The judges can dislike lacey all they want, but I am sure her presence on this show is getting them much higher ratings than it would have otherwise.
