pfft big woop i've been on a mexican sportfishing boat from the 60s that was only 30 ft long in bigger waves. The engine had broken down earlier and they restarted it with a log.
Wow! Going on my first offshore race this month since this one. Still got fantastic memories, and I am flattered that we have been accused of faking it. I was there. Go Spider!
I cannot believe that 15 sad individuals gave this the thumbs down. Get a life gentlemen and comment when you have actually got off your fat arses and done something worthy of watching.
What an amazing pice of footage spiderglide. Good music too. How long did the passage take?
The accusation that this was fake actually makes me feel really good. Good story value. I tell my friends (six of whom were on the boat with me) that people are actually convinced this was fake! Believe me, the view from the boat looked even more fake. Looked kind of sick actually.
@isamick08 It's not green screen mate, it just looks odd like that because the camera is fixed and moving with the vessel. Ever seen those videos when the camera is strapped on someones helmet and facing their face? Looks weird in those vids too.
@isamick08 You are a dick of the highest order and obviously know bugger all about sailing, a blind man with a bag over his head can see this is real, bloody muppet.
@Spiderglide, looks awesome & some nice helming skills there, what were you surfing along at 14-16 knots ??
@gubbedagain thanks, when the guy with the hat on winch raises his hands we were doing close to 18, but yes, mostly in the 12-16 range. Speedo read 19.8 once the night before. That is the highest speed we saw. Not bad for a Sydney 36.
Yes, secure the camera to the boat, but rig some kind of gimbal. The camera should stay level to the horizon, not to the boat. That way, you'll get a much better sense of the boat's pitching and rolling.
Great downwind action there guys. Looks like you all did very well. The Sydney 36 is a lovely boat and I am happy that you did well. Couple of hairy moments there by the looks.
Hey. guys this is my dad. even if you thought this was fake (and you thought wrong) you don't have to be so rude about it. Really get a life

I have just realised that I should secure the camera to the boat to get the true effect of the waves and not compensate by hand holding the camera
Cheers
