  • I've been playing this game for years, and there's still one thing I don't get: What the hell are the "secret" bonuses supposed to be? Not the merry dogs- the game just starts throwing out 10000 bonuses for nonsensical things. I only ever see it when chaining during stage 4E's midboss, but this guy gets a few here by attacking enemies out of sequence and ruining his chain.

  • @mitzibishi from what i've gathered weapons seem to upgrade through general use. Bigger chains will upgrade weapons faster. Also destroying bosses with 100% destruction gives quite a big xp bonus. Your main 3 guns Vulcan (A), Homing (B) and Spread (C) have levels. The combinations are upgraded based on the level of the components. So a high lvl A + Low lvl C gives a Back Wide with high damage but not much spread while low C + high A gives big spread but poor damage. Hope that helps.

  • This is going to be my crack for 2011.

  • damn, this game looks amazing for 1998 ..

  • sorry to say but 'silpheed the lost plannet is better... just sayingXD

  • @slaza2 first play Radiant Silvergun Man.

  • @slaza2 noitsnot

  • can anyone explain how the guns upgrade, theres only 1 faq out there and it doesnt explain very well. do they upgrade through general use or as i assume holding that gun on an enemy for a certain amount of bullets or time without missing and it will upgrade or is it through chaining? but it only shows upgrades level for A,B,C onscreen. so what about the other guns, how do i know what level they are on? anyone got a list of how each gun upgrades?

  • Third boss = homage to R-Type. Notice the similar weaponry to the original Arrowhead and the "shield" which is based off of the Standard Force.

  • I'd buy this in a heartbeat, but it's too outrageously priced........ sadly, I think it will be forever.

  • @dogeymon83 MAME, my friend.

  • @ctdjazz any other saturn emulator, mah boi

  • @MacWii Or XBLA, I guess. That was announced just days ago.

  • @ctdjazz there not going to package it that sucks it has ton of back ground and

history could they not make it special like cave games this sucks I bought the

saturn version back in the day I was hoping to buy 360 with new features but it is

a good game it is overated though you will find out once you beat it its not the best

like everyone says I hope the last boss that was kind of lame I hope they make that better I heard that its going to have better graphics I guess thats the only differsat

  • @dogeymon83 I agree, microsoft asked treasure to bring the game to xbla, but cave refused saying the game has not aged well, go figure

  • @regionfree1 You were saying?

  • @lobstrain Yes it's now coming to xbl in 2011,but orginally, treasure said the game had not aged well, well it's about dam time, way better than shelling out 200 plus dollars for a cult classic, seems microsoft did a little arm twisting,or perhaps treasure, understands it will sell well, sice 360 seems to be getting all the shmup games this generation.

  • @regionfree1 I would have been cool if they would have packaged it I would have bought

360 just for it all this time for nothing I hope it looks better than 1945 from capcom

for the XBLA that was lame

  • Man, this game has loooong stages.

  • Some times I could swear my hit box is larger than yours... =P

    Great playing.

  • That warning screen gave me a seizure. God I love it.

  • Why is the first Merry Dog worth only 10 points?

  • Why is this game SO expensive?

  • @Arctic3sword Cause it's the best game ever made?

  • @vincentizghra Nah...not THE BEST but among the best for sure.

  • @damjen666 Nah it's THE BEST.

  • @Arctic3sword its extremely rare

  • i really like ur gameplay.

and another touch of perfection is landed by godly hands of H.S

  • You lucky dog, you've got the S-TV version?

    Jealous very.

  • i actually played this on an arcade when i was in a daycare place. im not kidding!

  • Just use MAME if you really want to play this game but can't find it (or a working Saturn).

  • I DO NOT FEEL I WAS SUFFICIENTLY WARNED

  • you're good at this game, i'm looking into buying a modded saturn sometime this week. If so i will definitely be playing this game.

  • You know that game has to be hard when a boss version of R-Type fighter is sent against you.

  • 170 dollars :x

  • this game blows the doors off the PlayStation!

  • Does anyone know why this game wasn't released outside of Japan? Didn't Guardian Heroes come out in US?

  • Two words: Bernie Stolar.

By claiming that "Saturn is not our future," he refused to allow top quality Saturn titles to the US. Titles such as RS, Thunder Force V, X-Men vs. Street Fighter (with the 4MB RAM cart,) Silhouette Mirage and many others. I ended up having to import them for far more than I would have paid to get it domestic.

  • what an asshole.

  • And that's exactly why the Saturn had such a short life. Shortly after, Sega moved onto making the Dreamcast.

  • @vgmaster9 Someone should've assassinated him, being the worthless pile of ass and low-life he is. Bernie Suck-Ass should go die in a hole, thanks to his little "statement". Saturn is not your future, my fat ass.

  • This is exactly what I said on a post in a different video...Bernie Stolar was responsible for not bringing this to the US, back in 98 I was so disappointed to see the Saturn section on EBX and Software Etc almost empty, except for imports that ran for $99, it made me sad to see people not supporting the Saturn, in Japan it was a success and this game clearly shows how much better and advance the guts inside the black box was, this video don't make justice to the gorgeous graphics and effects.

  • I remember seeing this, Deep Fear, and SotN at EB for $39.99 a pop back in '98. I kick myself for not buying it. They also did the same for the TurboDuo before it, and the Dreamcast afterwards...

  • @hargosh37

F*** you Bernie Stolar. It wasn't him saying the Saturn wasn't their future that stopped this game from getting out, it was him BLATANTLY REFUSING TO LET IT AND MANY OTHER CLASSICS COME OVER HERE, thinking that it wouldn't appeal to the western audience.

  • @hargosh37 Youtube -

    /watch?v=2OyP4ETNygo

  • @hargosh37

i agree w/ you, i have almost over 400 Japanese sega saturn games including this one, n i have like 7 Saturn consoles,2 American consoles w/ the oval shape buttons and i have 5 new models of the white japan Saturn too and all expensive. I'm such a big fan of sega saturn and always will become one. i spend almost over $5,000 worth of Capcom and SNk games for my japanese sega saturn, my room looks like a library full of JAP saturn games. enough to even by a BMW.

  • @PhucDNguyen827 Dare I say I'm jealous? I so miss playing my Saturn, but thankfully these games have been resurrected on Xbox Live. Got both RS and Guardian Heroes recently, with no fear of Bernie Stolar pulling the plug once and for all.

  • @eggsngaming Sega USA didn't think there was a market for this kind of game outside of Japan, they also didn't think there was an RPG market outside of Japan either, and how they where wrong!

  • And that's why Working Designs went on to develop for the PlayStation. Thank you Bernie! (sarcasm)

  • This game is sooooooo good. Took me a year from first learning of Radiant Silvergun, to buying a modded Sega Saturn. And my god is this game incredible. Not only is the gameplay super fun and addictive, but its a joy to look at as well. Not since first playing Ikaruga has a shmup's visual look captivated me so much. Couple this game along with a S-Video cable for the Sega Saturn and the details in the background and enemies are incredible. This game is a must play for all shmup fans.

  • Comment removed

  • I wonder if any US arcades have a hold of this version.

  • No, it was Japan-only.

  • I know, but did any of us ever have a copy of the Japanese game?

  • That last boss in this video is clearly inspired by r-type, hehe.

  • i just bought the Sega Saturn for 50 bucks, can't wait to play it

  • Is there any real advantage to using P2 over P1? Or is it just a choice in colors? :P

  • Actually, Treasure has confirmed a port of Radiant Silvergun to XBLA, replete with an overhaul of the graphics to take advantage of the hardware.

Unfortunately, they're postponing its release to finish work on Sin & Punishment 2 for the Wii.

  • whats better radiant silvergun or einhander?

  • Pretty much as niespeludo said, RS and Einhander are both solid games. Most will say, though, that Radiant Silvergun is by far the greatest shooter ever made.

  • Radiant Silvergun easierly. Don't get me wrong Einhander is very nice. But there are so many subtle and obvisius awesome things about radient silver gun it's not even funny. Fuck look at the r-type tribute at stage 3!

  • Hands down radiant silvergun,Your question should of been whats better radiant silvergun or soukyugurentai Then I would have to say soukyugurentai, sorry a bit biased view there soukyo is me all time favorite shemup Silvergun is up there too though

  • Einhander is AMAZING, but Radiant Silvergun is among the VERY BEST of shmups. RS is one of the very few shooters that can hang with games such as DoDonPachi, Battle Garegga, Ikaruga, Armed Police Batrider, and Gradius V.

Although games such as Einhander and even R-Type Delta are both **incredible**, they're not in the same league as the other games I mentioned.

RS is simply just that damn good.

  • This isn't true. They said they'd like to, but they'd want to spend time updating the game. They put aside a different 360 project for S&P2.

  • I sure do hope Treasure decide to release it on Xbox Live like Ikaruga.

  • Is this the arcade mode?

  • It's the actual arcade machine.

  • Hmm oh ok, just a question, how do are arcade sticks better than a good dpad

  • a d-pad has eight different directions, an arcade stick can show how fast you want to go in any direction as well as allowing a wider range of directions to go

  • Oh ok, because i always thought that they were like analogue sticks, as in you have to 'release' them to go back to the centre, after only which you can then put in a new direction.

Also, playing the game with three buttons instead of seven, does it make it a lot harder?

  • Not really. The three subweapons always share a common element with the two elements you activate, and since the Radiant Sword is the most powerful one, you kinda make the connection that it's all three.

  • That's incorrect YourAverageJoey. An arcade stick works on 4 switches allowing 8 directions, it's a digital control method just like a d-pad in terms of input. What you're thinking of is an analogue flight stick.

  • Thanks for correcting me, Saur. :)

  • looks like alot of fun.

  • awesome, also it reminds me on Ikaruga

  • Same people I think.

Ikaruga is considered the 'spiritual' sequal to Radiant Silvergun.

  • I play a little different, but making a good red chain... these "SECRET"'s fucked up chains mess my mind, lol

  • How does the chain thing work? it does my head in!

  • I hate you for how good you are at this. The Saturn version of this game isn't too hard seen as you can set your player stock to 10 and your continues increase as you level up so you can die over a hundred times and still complete it in Very Hard mode, lol. How it is possible though that any one could finish this without dying is a mystery. Levels 3 and 2 maybe, but the rest? Some people have a lot of free time. ;-)

  • Yeh tru.

Seems as tho the stv version is way better than the saturn version!

  • This game has beautiful graphics, and probably the best soundtrack of any game ever composed.

It also helps that the gameplay is second to none.

  • i liked the original SOR music better, but 2 has good songs too.

  • god damn

  • Best dumbass comment ever :D

  • It's epic. XD

  • at least with rs you get different weapons, ikaruga you just have black/white beams/homing super.

  • wow this looks difficult !

  • Daaamn dude...I finally got a chance to play this game and I died SO MANY TIMES. It's clear this is a super memorization shmup. Long game too...must take a while to perfect it.

  • I've never played this, but I've watched it be completed in real-time. Why can't they make games like this now?

  • becuse of whinny fanboys who want nothing more in a game than movie like quallitys.

I wish they still made games like these. these ones are actually fun.

  • I second that bbknifer... now all the games tke like 3 years to be completed, and 90% of the cases the game sucks, why dont they just make elegant games like this one... Ikaruga is my fav game... so elegant

  • seeing this game, i can understand you need nerves of steel and a steady hand to match :)

  • Wait.. So you can defeat the first boss with A SINGLE SHOT/BOMB? Congraulations for finding that! I have never seen no one perform this task before... (On the other side, this game does not exist in my city, so I have seen it being played only a few times...)

  • The gameplay is amazing but is game's sound actually that crappy? I hope it's just a flaky microphone that caused the sound to seem so weird. Other than that, this video is golden.

  • man thats fucking amazing. i must have clocked up a good 200 hours on the game and can't do a 1/10th of what you can do here.

  • Well done play of an awesome game.

  • After having been visually made love to by Ikaruga, I just had to check this game out. So far it's pretty damned cool.

  • ... I hate Shmupp pros. Freaking inhuman bastards. XD Amazing play.
