  • ooo in japan this is butoh.........but in north malaysia we make butoh as butoh pak hang!! hahhaha

  • this looks like the grude the music makes it scary

  • Forgot the morning coffee I see.---Yeah, I get like that too. I swear: stairs are then, my sworn enemy.

  • Amazing.

  • THIS is one of the BEST and most amazing performances I've seen thus far!!!

  • QUAN CHI

  • Wonderful performance. To see a butoh protest of art censorship check out Whiteout: Butoh for BLU on Vimeo.

  • VOLDEMORT?!

  • Brilliant...the intensity of the physical condition, the ability to express an unconditional sense of self. Aligning raw animalistic tendencies and the delicate human condition; both emotional and physical defines all that we loathe...all that is alien...

  • So gracefully to roll down stairs :)

  • Awesome

  • BUTOH!!!!

  • Made me laugh and cover my mouth in that slightly scared, confused but enthralled way. Challenging stuff. I love it!

  • the more times I see this the more it amazes me... both in what is done physically and expressively...interesting this is the first butoh video one sees upon entering "butoh" on YT search...there are so many different styles....

  • the music. wow

  • he looks like twelve from street fighter 3

  • if golem could dance, this would be it

  • This is Maynard from Tool using one of his nome de plumes.

  • @Edogy at about 0:39 I was ready for them to break into 'Eulogy'

  • o.0

  • Loved this performance. Parts I really admire: 145-smile,204-hands,233-face,245-foot,307-reminded me of a spider. Imre Thormann is a spectacular performer. Watched this video 4 time in a row. wow.

  • looks like an alien that just has been born thums up :P

  • Too much art for me. :)

  • chawal performance

  • "a yokai, who wakes up"

  • trolo pintado de blanco

  • Perfeição de movimentos! A arte impregnada na alma do artista!

  • 1:50 last pose of Netero............ thumbs up if you understand this thing!

  • I know this feeling. No one sees me fall down or drop things. Or to be unable to finish because of exhaustion, or inability to see in the light. I feel like I live in Abu Gharaib with others. Questions: Why? Why? Why? They can not see me drop, fall, in pain. unable to sleep. If they do not see what I have no words for, then they believe I am a 'hot mess' because it is what I chose. But, what is it really, how we all die. If only I didn't have to go thru withdrawal from participation

  • Wow. Every movement from every part of his body is a masterpiece.

  • @Sanimangas he has such a great control

  • I saw him dancing few years ago ... I watch him now on this video and it is still so very strong !

  • wonderful, I´ve never seen something like this, quiero ver más!

  • its cool to see how athletic something that doesnt move around much in space (at least the space on the stage) can be.

  • I wonder if the older japanese audience can see what I see vis a vis a war veteran. The fragility of the human body v.s the strength of the human spirit. The japanese championed degradation of both with their prisoners of any nation, and i would relish in their shame of it being thrust in their disgusting and evil countenance.

  • James Franco knows the way of Butoh , ie. hosting the Oscars or playing the character who has to chew off his arm to get free from a cliff. All the world is stage where we are merely players.

  • wow. its soo amazing the body usage!

liek we are doing this for my drama assignment soo im watching all of the videos and really i am gettin inspired! i love them soo much and i love how they tell stories!

  • its a dance? what am i watching? lolllll its so weird. ahhahahah um... i dont hate it or anything i just dont know what this is. what is thiss?!?!?!?!

  • @MonthuRa why do you need someone else to answer these questions? Open up and say what you feel, don't look for someone else to answer for you.....what do you feel?

  • @MonthuRa It's just a performance piece. Not strictly dance but it can be.

  • where is "my precious" dance! btw love it!

  • wow

  • Love it.

  • I love this dance!

Chuj mu w dupe! Pierdolony pedał!

    I love this shit!

    Jebać go w dupe!

  • I wanted to hate this, but I don't.

  • Has he got cramps or what? XD

  • silver surfer lost his board again.

  • If I had those awesome skills I'd show up to every party like that. Especially if they had stairs.

  • wonderfull!

  • ICE TO MEET YOU

  • This is really hypnotic, disturbing, and great!

  • 1:59

    MY PRESHOSSSSS

  • epilepsia? xD

  • This reminds me of a Tool concert I once went to.

  • A M A Z I N G ^^

  • Music name?

  • this looks like a tool video

  • Damn nature! You scary!

  • still feelin it

  • Wierdest and most fascinating type of artistic dance I have EVER seen. Most of those moves requires extraordinary strength and endurance. Incredible performance!

  • "It's like old greg."

  • amazing!!!!!

  • me gusta bailar así en mi pieza.

  • Incredible!

  • o god i fall in love, Really beutiful...the dance and the dancer :)

  • i am so going to a club this weekend and doing these fucking dance moves i will get like 20 chicks

  • Dudes, the art is amazing, the make up nice, his body incredible... but he looks like Gollum... or me when I am drunk (ok, my belly is bigger)

  • y eso q onda???

jeje ta raro no lo abia visto

  • @Gabisoiyo S: yo si y me daria miedo que ese wey saliera asi un dia cuenado este sola y me persiguiera con esa musica

  • LOLOOLOLS

  • This is some freaky scary stuff!!!

I'm not sure why it creeps me out so much =|

  • Cognitive physicality of beauty nervosa!

  • Very impressive performance by Imre. Too bad he is not in Japan anymore.

  • Krass! HAbe mich schon immer geftragt, ob denn die JApaner oder die Schweizer die krassesten sind.

  • Maybe I didn't actally get the concept of butoh, how it is understood nowadays, but:

I was thinking that the theme of butoh is the weak, broken and damaged man.

I see a big amount of control, power and also narcism in this performance which, for my understanding seems to be in an kind of conflict to the genuine butoh idea.

So my first thought is, that this is a great, a very great performance, but it's not butoh...

    Correct me, if I'm wrong.

  • no maaa que buen performance jajajaja imprecionante

    an i say

    atte lotus6446

  • Let's talk about body control.

  • So amazing...

  • this is some freaky shit!!

  • This should be in a horror movie 0_o

  • this is painful to watch..melancholic in the same way as Picassos blue and pink period-paintings..to me anyway..

  • WOW. Amazing indeed!

  • I thought this was seriously going to be retarded, but I found myself with my mouth wide open instead of laughing.

It's weird, but amazing at the same time! I don't even know to explain it! :O

  • tiny muscles are used perfectly, smooth silky lite movements.

  • I love Butoh! It's always so interesting.

    Thanks for posting this!

    -Aurora

  • That's really cool. I've never seen anything like it.

  • I searched for "Japanese dance", as in the genre of music. On the first page I found anything but, including this. An interesting find, though. I've never heard of this kind of dance before.

  • Maravilloso

  • he is so thin

  • Is that smeagol???

  • So amazing...

  • freaky

  • Extraordinario!!!!!!!!

    Nada Mas que decir.....

    Felicitaciones.

  • kinda reminds me of dhalsim from street fighter lol

  • confusing as all fuck. but cool.

  • I respect all dance forms, and this guy is good, DANG good at what he is doing. It is perhaps a bit wierd for mainstream, but I really liked it!!!

  • what a control of muscles

  • Essa noite terei pesadelos... O.õ

  • Wow, he even dances just with his abs. Fascinating.

  • Holy shit this is the most captivating thing.

  • He's trying to figure out how to stand up, but he falls down the stairs. He's frustrated for a moment. Then he moves around, learns his ability and surroundings and gains confidence as he sits upright and smiles. Then through a little ingenuity he hops himself up. His legs are weak and he falls down again. He looks at his foot like, "What's wrong with it?" Then it dawns on him that he won't get back up those stairs any time soon. Exasperated, he slumps down.

  • Thanks for pointing out the obvious!

We need more people like you.

  • Amazing guy. Love the music and the make-up!

  • woah,,,, thats all i have to say. woah.

  • he has a hard on

  • This is amazing, the only thing I have ever seen come close is a tool concert. They had performers on stage doing similar movements. I think perhaps they studied butoh. Fascinating.

  • amazing. butoh is very subtle... but he looks hungry.

  • he did well!

  • know what, in malaysia butoh means men's genitals

  • exelent!

  • alto mutante

  • I had heard about this... It's amazing

  • those many sides of butoh are really fascinating.

  • The white body makeup is a part of Butoh. Butoh was formed after WW2 and was a reaction to the bomb being dropped on Japan twice and to Western dance. The horror of the bomb and the horror of what it is to be human, the horrors that humanity endures and is capable of resonate in Butoh. This particular dancer is particularly adept and he is absolutely brilliant.

  • i love this

  • he looks like gollum

  • Its cause Butoh is bassed on Hiroshima The big bomb And the Survivors Afects Of the radiation Caused by it my drama teacher told me it was ment to be extremly Slow (slower than a snail)but this guy failed obviously

  • Well, that was horrifying.

  • I saw this performance and I think some of the information is not correct. First, it was in summer 2005 -unless there was another performance the following year. And second, the music was made not only by the Swiss group but by the Tenri University Gagaku group.

The performer technique is one of the most amazing things I have ever seen, specially in the final part -which is missing here- since the audience could not see anymore a human body.

    Unforgotable indeed.

  • This looks like it influenced dancers from the Tool video Schism. Interesting.

  • only in japan

  • Incredible movements!!

    Divine video!!!

    CliveX

  • Frantic art enthusiasts! Always complicating things just to make them look smart....

  • The fragility of self image. Caught in a downward spiral. Never completely destroyed, but left to tumble. Awkward and out of place. Begging for salvation. Animalistic, alien even...grotesque. Finally oblivious and therefore somewhat satisfied with this devovled state reached from the fall. From this mindless state of contentment with the present condetion redemption is found. Call it surrender becoming stability. Recreation of the ego. Mutating into something familiar. Death.

  • @TheDigitalreign Internets. Serious business.

  • @TheDigitalreign Hahahah

  • @TheDigitalreign You deserve a harvard phd in art history

  • cool, a nightmare in real life

  • something out of this world. Very artistic indeed. Love japanese flutes

  • theyre not japanese flutes sttooooopid!

  • that has got to be the oddest thing i've ever seen.

  • It is indeed odd... As of today, I had never even heard about Butoh and I find it very interesting

  • pretty.

  • pretty.

  • It's captivating.

  • funny guy. nice.

  • great!

  • this looks disgusting but it takes ALOT of skill. look at how he elevated up and moves all his muscles

  • 100000000000000000000000++++++++++++++++

  • very funny. well done!

  • he needs life alert

  • i could NOT do this. boy would i look funny in the outfit anyway

  • que fueeeeeerte

  • uhh that was both cool, creepy, and interesting at the same time.

  • bad...ass...!

  • Wow, that was certainly different! Incredibly well done, just very strange:)

  • a beautiful performance. one of the best i've seen. the soundtrack is also magic!

  • wow this really scared me, but it is amazing!

  • gollum on a bender

  • yeah! butoh es lo mejor es toda una filosofia

  • "Hey, Steve, what' s up? Any word on your brother, Jim? How's he handling the break up?"

"Well, he sent me this video.."

  • Absolutely fascinating!

  • his muscle articulation is unreal

  • a living corpse from the hiroshima blast.

    amazing stuff. Excellent body control.

    5 stars and favorited!

  • yes

  • I wish there were more butoh performances like this... I love how some of the butoh performances look creepy!

  • AMAZING performance...loved the music too. I'm a marimbist/percussionist/pianist/singer/composer. I'd love to work with Butoh dancers. Feel free to check out my videos on the SphericSenseS channel on youtube.

  • He rocks in moving!!!!

  • marvellous emo dance 10

  • fantastic....

  • This is new gameplay footage from Silent Hill 6.

  • muy bueno....

  • It's amazing to see how his muscles are working. A bit creepy too, but I liked it.

  • What is he doing?

That Hiyoshi Taisha is a national treasure.

It is very valuable Shinto shrine built 1500 years ago.

why...did he such place......i cant believe...

  • If butoh devalues the worth, it is a legitimate death.

  • It is VERY weird...and beautiful.

  • very much like a band called "Sopor Aeternus"

    she moves like a Butoh

  • When he started to stand up all i could think off was omg omg omg. i loved it. although his stomach was gross. i hate seeing skeleton. but he looked like a corpse.

  • Skeleton? He's got a terrific built ! It's the makeup that freaking LOL

  • Amazing.

  • what a very different kind of dance.

    He has AWESOME muscle control.

  • Beautiful control..and commitment to the movement. Amazing!

  • Why would one need to separate between dancing and acting?

  • Wow that is really beautiful!
