In this case what these ppl are doing by illegally posting these posters where they have no right to is against the law in many cities, regardless of size, across the United States, and is worthy of a malicious mischief charge (willful, wanton, or reckless damage to or destruction of another's property)! It is what you are doing if you apply... ANYTHING... anywhere when you do not have the right to put there.

In some cities even displaying a knife in public is in defiance of the law; yes, it's criminal. And yes, you can even go to jail for displaying a knife out in the open, in public! This normally applies to larger cities & last time I checked Boston was a large(r) city!

If it is plastic it probably won't rip and it will be much easier to remove it by hand. Also, the surface that the poster is attached also has a lot to do with it! The rougher the surface the more likely that a much stronger than normal glue or solvent was used to attach the poster to the surface, i.e. brick, cement, wood, etc.

Sometimes duct tape is used to attach such posters and you either need a pair of scissors or a knife to cut it off!

A lot of whether or not it can be removed depends on how strong the surface is that has the design on it, i.e. what the poster is made of! If it's paper it will probably rip & you might need a sandblaster to get it off unless you want to wait months or years for rain, temperatures across the spectrum, & ultimately time, to eventually erode away at it.
