I may be wrong, but I think it would work with more magnets on the outer ring. Then on the inner disk. Say if you had 10 magnets on the inner disk. You should have 12 or 13 magnets on the outer ring. So that there would be allways be one or more magnets pushing at any given time in the counterclockwise direction then in the clockwise direction.
Hey , i think your design works , it just needs a little touch : it's the ratio and arrangement of magnets : ratio must be 2/3 , for example you have 6 on the rotor (put as a perfect hexagon) and 4 on the stator (peerfect square) , but you can have more efficient systems (12/8 magnets). Why ? when a pair of magnets is at a neutral point , other 2 pairs are pushed or pulled in the same direction => TORQUE , i hope i've been helpful :)

@tomT024 it does not work if magnets are arranged symmetrically, it will only produce equilibrium... a simple static arrangement of magnets. We need to find eccentricity, introduce a lever arm... This is the missing piece for magnet motors.

I believe there may be a way to make this work properly. What is slowing the wheel is the faint outer border of the magnetic fields. You need to shield the sides of the magnets which approach each other so that the magnetic field cannot be seen by the magnets until they are in-line with each other. You must find a material that can shield 100% of the field on one side of the magnets.
Just place your magnets as close to the edge as possible to get extremely greater performance from your design. I would estimate that the magnet field's strength diminishes about 50% for every quarter inch of distance away from each other.
if you use less magnets and try a lots of positions/sizes maybe it will work. also the 'wheel' seems too heavy, use light material and smaller+stronger magnets (if it's possible). I am trying to make one too.

There is no way to get free energy. All of the devices I have ever seen on here violate at least one of the three laws of thermodynamics. Some attempt to break Newtons 3 laws of motion also, and that can not be done except at the subatomic scale or at speeds approaching the speed of light. Look for ways to collect available energy without using a device with moving parts. That will get you closer but still not quite there.
Sigh...when the number of magnets is low, movement is jerky and the device quickly stops in a low energy position because there is insufficient momentum to get out of the low energy states. When the number of magnets goes up there are many low energy positions and it moves more smoothly but also the energy of the high energy positions and the low energy positions are not so different.
When the number of magnets -> infinity it moves very smoothly and all positions have same energy. Its a Wheel.

Aren't perpetual motion devices supposed to...not stop? Isn't that the definition? Ok so even if you could produce a near frictionless device that would seemingly go on "forever", as soon as you add a load to the system, you necessarily lose any near frictionless properties. IN FACT, the only way to build a PMD is in a Zero G Vacuum, like....outer space. magnet motors are interesting, maybe plausible, but not a valid perpetual motion component - it requires a lot of energy to manufacture magnets, so you're not gaining any energy out of it.
Magnet motors would still be a big improvement over what we have today. With a magnet motor you can run an electric car until the parts wear out. By the way manufacturing magnets is a separate issue from using them. It would still be a big improvment in the environment if we were to get rid all fossel fuel vehicle alone.
basically, any electric motor is a magnetic motor. in fact, the motors used in computer coolers are quite similar to this one - the rotating piece has a magnet in it and a group (typically 4) of electro-magnets are activated and de-activated sequentially to make it spin.
The design could easily be used to make motors that require less energy to spin, but it's not feasible for making the motor alone.

If you can find a way around Newton's laws of motion and the conservation of energy, then perpetual motion might be possible. But so far as we know these laws are immutable. Elsewhere, in a lower gravity environment or a different atmosphere...maybe. Even on Mars, however, perpetual motion still won't work. Gravity can not be made to do useful work for free. There is always a cost in energy. I wish that was not true, but it is.

No arrangement of permanent magnets alone can produce continuous rotational motion. Like the gravitational field, the magnetic field is a conservative field of force and is never a source of energy. Note that the rotational energy invested into the rotor by way of a little shove is quickly drained under the influence of opposing magnetic forces.

I believe there may be a way to make this work properly. What is slowing the wheel is the faint outer border of the magnetic fields. You need to shield the sides of the magnets which approach each other so that the magnetic field cannot be seen by the magnets until they are in-line with each other. You must find a material that can shield 100% of the field on one side of the magnets.

Just place your magnets as close to the edge as possible to get extremely greater performance from your design. I would estimate that the magnet field's strength diminishes about 50% for every quarter inch of distance away from each other.

All energy gets converted from one form to another - and in the process efficiency is lost.
I really don't mind paying for my electricity - I'm used to it. I don't have to go out and hamster dance on some wheel to get it spinning again.

There is no way to get free energy. All of the devices I have ever seen on here violate at least one of the three laws of thermodynamics. Some attempt to break Newtons 3 laws of motion also, and that can not be done except at the subatomic scale or at speeds approaching the speed of light. Look for ways to collect available energy without using a device with moving parts. That will get you closer but still not quite there.

Laws of "perpetual" mouvement of magnetic/gravity machines :
1- They don't need inicial impulse to start running.
2- Once running they don't stop unless a brake is applied.
3- They work without any electric wires or motors attached.

Sigh...when the number of magnets is low, movement is jerky and the device quickly stops in a low energy position because there is insufficient momentum to get out of the low energy states. When the number of magnets goes up there are many low energy positions and it moves more smoothly but also the energy of the high energy positions and the low energy positions are not so different.
When the number of magnets -> infinity it moves very smoothly and all positions have same energy. Its a Wheel.

The thing is. Out solar system does a perpetuate motion for millions of years. So although there is an ellipses, not so much a circular motion. Aren't perpetual motion devices supposed to...not stop? Isn't that the definition? Ok so even if you could produce a near frictionless device that would seemingly go on "forever", as soon as you add a load to the system, you necessarily lose any near frictionless properties. IN FACT, the only way to build a PMD is in a Zero G Vacuum, like....outer space. And again, as soon as you add a load to the thing, even in space, it becomes non-frictionless and will cease to operate if left unaided.

magnet motors are interesting, maybe plausible, but not a valid perpetual motion component - it requires a lot of energy to manufacture magnets, so you're not gaining any energy out of it.

Magnet motors would still be a big improvement over what we have today. With a magnet motor you can run an electric car until the parts wear out. By the way manufacturing magnets is a separate issue from using them. It would still be a big improvment in the environment if we were to get rid all fossel fuel vehicle alone.

basically, any electric motor is a magnetic motor. in fact, the motors used in computer coolers are quite similar to this one - the rotating piece has a magnet in it and a group (typically 4) of electro-magnets are activated and de-activated sequentially to make it spin.
The design could easily be used to make motors that require less energy to spin, but it's not feasible for making the motor alone.

If you can find a way around Newton's laws of motion and the conservation of energy, then perpetual motion might be possible. But so far as we know these laws are immutable. Elsewhere, in a lower gravity environment or a different atmosphere...maybe. Even on Mars, however, perpetual motion still won't work. Gravity can not be made to do useful work for free. There is always a cost in energy. I wish that was not true, but it is.
