This is by far one of my most favorite songs she's ever made with broken social scene. I love that she did an acoustic version into gimme sympathy. Beautiful
I was lucky ehough to win tickets to their Winnipeg show after a full week of my life devoted to calling the radio station like a hundred times a day...and then using my friend's ID and altering my appearence to get into the bar - but TOTALLY worth it! They only did songs off Fantasies though, along with Jimmy playing Nobody Home. I wish they had played this song...at seventeen at the time it was truth sung to me haha. Only Emily and her lyrics could make me cry to such a seemingly 'simple' song
@TheSkyAboveAblaze .... Emily didn't... write this song. O.o She sings this beautifully, but this performance is a cover of Broken Social Scene's "Anthems For A Seventeen Year Old Girl." O.o
@SakuraMoonflower Emily is actually one of the original members of Broken Social Scene, and has been since they were founded - Leslie Feist and Amy Millan also had similar roles before Lisa Lobsinger joined them as a touring and later main vocalist. Emily writes the lyrics for all of the songs she sings lead vocals on with BSS - so while she's not singing with them here it's not really a cover since it's hers originally. She's the one who sings it on the recorded version for Broken Social Scene!
@TheSkyAboveAblaze Ooh, forgive my ignorance! XD Sad thing: I wondered why the current singer's voice didn't sound like the recording, and did genuinely think Emily sounded closer to the recording than that girl... I didn't realize the recording and emily were one and the same! Fun facts FTW! 8D
@SakuraMoonflower Haha I'm sorry, that came off as kinda condescending and that was not my intention - I just know/care too much about Broken Social Scene and Emily Haines in general and I got excited :) It's definitely hard to decipher her voice in the recording though, it's so distorted. It's a goal of mine to one day hear her sing this song live then I can die happy.

This is a really sweet cover... they should release it as a b-side with a single or something.
