This hasgot to be one of the best ads of all time. I remember having to study it for Marketing years ago, it was awesome, there are so many little homages and nods in such a small ad, it's amazing, and it's so funny! love the fact there is just this well tanned, good looking man wanders in with the classic and romantc line : By 'eck, a sell gorgeous tonight, petal!
I remember this coming out and was dying to find out who the music was by...It took me 15 years to find out !! its Smoke rings by Roger Webb on music DeWolfe label .
@gpo746 It's Production Music, that's why. Unfortunately there's loads of production music out there that is awesome, but not available for release, without bring a registered roduction company, all you can do is listen to it online.

THAT IS DEFINITELY NOT ANNA CHANCELLOR-"DUCKFACE"OUT OF FOUR WEDDINS AND A WEDDIN AND THE UPPLER-CRUST LESBIAN LOVER OF RACHEL STIRLING OUT OF "TIPPIN THE VELVET"
What I wonder is, why a bee in the logo? There's no taste of honey in Boddingtons. Let's it's a hot day outside and you're enjoying a cold pint of Manchester's finest. All of a sudden a bee comes and stings you.
What on earth do bees have to do with Manchester's signature cream ale?
@mramo - It isn't. The actress has been in contact after her name was accidentally mentioned on here by her son. I removed her details at her request. I don't think she's in the business anymore.
After training at the Academy of Live and Recorded Arts in London, her appearance in a cult advert for Manchester-based Boddingtons bitter in 1994 (as Vera, who likes nothing better than "a good rub down with chip fat") led to a series of roles as Northern women, including Dawn Rudge in Peak Practice (1993), Allie Henshall in Cutting It (2002), Annie Naylor in Trust and Natalie Holden in Blackpool (2004)

what's the music? anyone know?
Babs05 3 years ago
i've been wanting to know what the music is for ages.
its on episode "supersnout" (seriees 2 episode 3 of The Sweeney 15/09/75.
any body know what that is?
and who is the actress? I think its not Anna Chancellor who was in the "ice cream" ad
vol53 3 years ago
That's funny it was used in The Sweeney. I also heard it in Morse! I don't know which episode, unfortunately, one of later ones, anyway.
That's definitely not Anna Chancellor. She was in Kavanagh QC, (also with John Thaw) and she looked totally different back then.

The music is called "Smoke Rings". I can't remember who it's by though. I have it on tape (remember that?) somewhere. I'll try and find it.

Many thanks fremlinskent - 'Smoke Rings', by DeWolfe Music. I had been wondering what this music is for years.

You read my mind,Vol, I watched that sweeney episode the other day and instantly thought of this ad. Glad the post below tells us what the music is.

The track is called "Smoke Rings" by Roger Webb, and can be freely downloaded as an mp3 at:
