  • ryde is better now

  • i right then nipper i dont wnana sound gay but i have gone to the main land to use the computer thing they have invented and i love this vid

  • A little piece of Detroit comes to a little piece of England - and to think in the Eighties I loved holidaying on IoW. Ryde looked quaint for sure but it wasn't a wreck. The writing was on the wall though: London's house prices met Liverpool's unemployment levels and the local "yoof" were openly hostile to holidaymakers. They obviously grew up still biting the hand that fed them and this is the result. Very sad.

  • whats happened to comic advert for sandown isle of wight ?? i can't find it anywhere

  • you shoud get off the island mate...everywhere is the same.... >.<

  • looks like bin day to me 0_o....

  • I have just been there with my school for 5 days and it was very fun. i have stayed in sandown. i really miss it.

  • Brilliant - shows just the results of just how corrupt the IWCC is. I grew up on the Island and in those days there was a pride in your town. Ryde Borough Council would never have allowed the town to get it in this state - there's progress for you. centralised bloated council, overpaid incomptetent top officials and what do you get no covic pride, falling services etc.

  • Thanks for the insight..

I am in the USA and at times think we have a monopoly on corruption in politics. It would seem you have the same problems over there.

I do not know how the citizenry will ever be able to hold our politicians criminally accountable for the things they do, and for the things they fail to do...

Those that are involved in corruption must be removed and forfeit ALL pay they received. PLUS a long lock up, followed by an ineligibility to be it any place of trust. Good Luck.

  • @45von

The island council are notorious for corruption, Google :BBC News Undercliff Drive it will give you a taste of what we have to put up with.

With the graffiti, if it is in the tourist areas it is removed immediately. But the council couldn't care less about non tourist areas, which is where the people they are supposed to be serving live.

Matters are about to get even worse with the rubbish as the council have now decided they wont collect it unless people leave it blocking the pavements

  • I was dragged up in preston close this town is shit but not a reason to become a shit head!

  • alot of old back streets.. simone wreck been like that for years.. did you wait til bin day lol

  • I live in the backstreets you dick, every day is bin day in Ryde as people just dump it on the street days before the collection

  • I lived in Ryde a few years back, in a cottage on Church Lane behind Yelf's. The small lane next to Union St. The whole lane was used as a communal urinal for the bar53 punters. Staff would do sweet F.A. to stop it. I remember going into Yelf's and yelling at the management about all the piss on church lane. I said "How would you like it if i came and pissed outside your house and then all my friends came and pissed outside your house too? Every night. Forever!" They called the police on me.

  • @tillybum84 i think u r fab

  • whats wrong with it it looks the same as most of the british isles london worse thanking this goverment for letting in half the world from there shit hole countries and now turned our into the same thing if we didnt spend so much on giveing to theses people maybe spend it on our own country and make it a place to be proud of again but no lets all live in dirt and filthy streets and thank tony blair for what he done human rights anyway im out off here like the rest who given up time to move on

  • man i know ryde is a shit hole but i mean i love it because it is that way

  • i like it being a shit hole too, especially if that keeps the holiday makers away...bastards:-)

  • lol, dont understand why people want to move to this shitty island!

  • I dont understand either! I want to move off this shitty island!!! Cant find any jobs to go to in order to leave for a good reason!!!

  • see i knew i was rite ryde is scummy should of filmed preston close and slade road lol

  • Why is there only bad pictures?

  • I guess the tourist board do a pretty good job of propaganda showing the side of the island they want to and I am leveling the balance a bit. And besides this is what its like, I haven't staged it just pointed the camera, and I kind of like it this way...its honest warts and all.

  • I must admit I've lived here half my life and now am ashamed to say I live here..

Can't afford to do anything about it though

  • I see Cllr. Phlegmry Adams has been caught red handed spitting out of his dirty shop in Monkton street. What a disgrace that man is, just read the County Press and half the reports of vandalism and anti-social behaviour appear to be based around the Monkton street area. You can hardly wonder at it if that is how a Councillor is carrying on.

  • looks like something out of the Adams family too

  • Don't want this to be taken the wrong way or anything but you guys on the island haven't got it half as bad, i live in london and its a shithole to be polite, i have family who live on the island and i'm always trying to get away from here and stay on the island. I must admit though, i have noticed its becoming a lot like london, what with graffiti and everything. Plus i've had the pleasure of meeting some of the "hoodies" on the island, there all talk nothing else, not like london.

  • Undoubtedly London is a lot worse than the Island, but that doesn't excuse this self serving local council and its predecessors for the decades of neglect or for their arrogant failings. All too often we are fed the line that they are cash strapped yet it emerges that in fact they have have beensitting on large excesses of capital that they can afford to invest in failing Icelandic banks....and who, ultimately, pays for their follies? We do!

  • "Not like London" you are having a laugh, everone knows the Krays and a fight is how much shit you can speak to each other, cockney twat

  • Mate you need to grow up and act your age, i don't understand why your calling me a cockney twat, i merely said the island was not as bad as london, and that i would rather live on the island. You live a pathetic life if you think typing words on an internet site makes you the bigger man, when in fact makes you sound like a little child. As i said earlier grow up and act your age.

  • You say "act my age" but it is you who states " I've had the pleasure of meeting some of the 'hoodies' on the Island, the're all talk". Do you often pick on twelve year old kids? or is this normal for a Londoner as all fights seem to be based on how much shit you spout to each other rather than using your fists. I don't need words to make me look like the bigger man as you do it for me

  • Not half as bad as sandown

  • not yet

  • i,ve lived in ryde all my life can,t wait to move away or off the isle of wight

  • My poor brother lives in Ryde. Not that living in Newport IOW is really any better.

Can't WAIT to get away from here.

  • It wont be long before Ryde is the new Sandown!

  • Personally, Living On The Island, And Have Done Since i Was 8 MOnths Old. Its Not acctually As Bad As It Looks, But, COWES IS BETTER :D Yey Cowes :D

  • Cowes is nice, infact (West) Cowes is probably one of the last nice places on the Island. Newport has been taken over by hoodies and Ryde and Sandown are a disgrace, in Bembridge has become a bit low-rent now.

  • Just returned from Island holiday:

£100+ to cross a couple of miles of water!

    Weather was shit!

    Roads are a dangerous disgrace!

    Will we be returning?

    NO

  • when ive been to iow at least the weather was fine

  • lol i live on the island and i dont blame you hahaha

  • As an island resident I'd like to personally apologise for the poor weather you were forced to encounter while visiting the Isle of Wight.

  • I love the IOW and have just come back from a weeks holiday there.

Ryde peequed my interested and so I thought I'd visit, check is it's really the "Skeggy" of the IOW...

First off, I needed the loo, so after viewing a mkIII Ford Capri on @ the beachfront I went to the gents...disgusting! Boxer shorts and god knows what all over the place!

SO I walked on...and saw nothing but dirt and binge drinking dodgites...I though I left them back in the midlands!

Then I went back to Sandown.

  • Many thanks for your comment,I share your love for the Island and I include Ryde in that statement I am particularly fond of its rich and varied architecture.

Unfortunately the Island has suffered decades of neglect from a series of self serving administrations.

Your comment is particularly welcome as the local authority pay zero attention to the views of the residents but should they treat the views of visitors with equal disregard the Islands economy will continue to decline. Thanks again.

  • I agree with that, I have noticed parts of the IOW decline.

One major niggle is Blackgang Chine.

I always loved that place as a kid and had knowledge that one day it might not be there and indeed, alot of it has gone but...they make no effort at all! The areas not affected by landfall are dismal.

I did visit Robin Hill this year and I see hwere all the money has gone, I think they are condenming older places in favour of new ones...I see an Alton Towers coming and that spells trouble.

  • If you think Ryde is dirty now after the next local Election this Conservative Council plan to start collecting every two weeks they are at present in secret so called negotiations with Biffa the waste services provider.

  • I am always amazed by reports of this practice by councils.

In this one respect the people really have the councils over a barrel as if people do not recycle their rubbish the council will be hit with enormous fines from the EU.

So for once the councils are unable to dictate to the people they supposedly represent for fear of them taking radical action.

  • Update Biffa is no longer it's been taken over the Islands allmost full up ask the Council whats the plan there is no plan GREAT.

  • So the con trickster Joe Fuckworthless has gone back to Newham with his tail between his legs and once again Island residents have to foot the bill for this councils cock-ups....Same as it ever was.

  • Isle of Wight Council Leader David Pugh:"The Isle of Wight is one of the South East's most successful resorts for achieving Blue Flags."

Even though Ryde wasn't even entered for a Blue Flag due to the poor quality of the water, and since when has the Island been in the South East?

  • Come on, if you walk round any town on rubbish pick up day it's going to look a bit scuzzy. And show me a place which doesn't have graffitti! It's not so bad really. I'm not defending the council though, don't get me wrong - just defending ryde itself a little.

  • I'm not criticising Ryde or the Island, I think both are great, the problem is the arrogant incompetent council...period.

Everyday is rubbish day as it sits on the streets for days prior to collection day but thats just the tip of the iceberg...the state of :the roads the pavements etc. etc. whilst they waste our money hand over fist and bleat on about the likes of "Eco Island", its a joke just look at how wasteful THEY are!

  • Oh man, if the IOW becomes a STUPID "Eco Island" or ANY part of it becomes "Eco" then that's it, it's finished!

PLaces already shut earlier due to two things the government have done (and I spoke to the persons about this so it's true):

    1) High prices including energy (lights for example).

    2) 24 hour pubs, encouraging binge drinking whilst placing silly adverts saying you shouldn't drink.

I can't help but notice the IOW is suffering the modern age. Victorians rolling in thier graves!

  • "Eco Island" is just a cynical mythe, in fact the Island is higher than the UK average in pollution rates.

Government, both local and centrals, only interest in eco issues is solely to score cheap political points, they pay lip service to them with sham gestures to appear to be taken environmental matters seriously but they really have no interest, or foresight, beyond their own selfish political ambitions.

  • An example of how polluting the Island council is would be the dog poo bins.

These invariably are placed alongside normal litter bins the contents of both end up at the same place- the landfill- however they are both emptied by separate contractors in separate vehicles. This "hazardous waste" which is tied up in plastic bags that take a century to decay is simply just dumped into the ground.

  • I hear ya on that one. The only reason why the government has force fed EVERYONE "climate change" in this country with adverts and guilt trips is because it gives them a solid excuse to raise taxes and charge people more for things.

Go to a shop now and you may be charged for carry bags, so that old lady that went to the shop has to handball everything home because she didn't have enough...STOP IT NOW people!

Landfill is another issue but alas, we waste out breath...time for action.

  • I see the signs that this disgraceful council have put up in Ryde stating incorrectly that dogs are banned from the beach are still there two and a half weeks after they were put up, and they have the bloody cheek to bleat on about SAFER NEIGHBOURHOODS, what a joke, these signs are causing friction as the holiday makers are threatening dog walkers as they have seen the signs and obviously consider dogs shouldn't be there, it will end in violence and this arrogant council will be totally to blame

  • Cont.

If it was the people we elect making these continual cock ups we could kick them out but this only goes to prove what a sham democracy is in practice. The decisions are taken by dead beat idiots employed by us who we cant get rid of, they have their feet on the desk and are saying fuck you to us lot as they know they are in a job for life with a guaranteed pension at our expense, hardly any wonder wonder they couldn't care less is it?

  • I can not see any way the council would be able to prosecute anyone taking a dog onto a beach due to this cock-up.

If the evidence was produced that the signs stated that dogs are not allowed on the beach yet they are allowed to be there, the councils signs lack any credibility and if these signs cant be believed how do we know whether or not any of their other signs are actually stating a fact?

  • Cont....

I think this would be thrown out of court, and the council know that. They have put themselves in this position due to their own incompetence, they are not allowed to bring a prosecution unless it has a reasonable chance of success....FOOLS!

  • Anyone noticed the outbreak of yellow triangle council/police warning thingies on every third or fourth lamppost in the St Johns area. Just put up in time for the coming season to assure holiday makers we are full of crime?

How long will they stay up before they become a target for drunken random vandalism I wonder??

  • To the contrary we have little doubt that informing the Islands youth that this behavior is not only illegal but also will not be tolerated will make a vast difference to their behavior, as they are obviously unaware that smashing wing mirrors off of cars is not permitted.

These signs are a master stroke as they will eliminate the need for a police presence, not that one was supplied in the first place anyway though.

  • Perhaps the council and the police think that the yobs don't know its illegal to kick the wing mirrors off cars so if they have signs telling them so it will enlighten them and stop the practice....I wonder how long it took them to dream that one up?

  • I see the Islands snake problem shows no chance of improving this year as there has been three dogs with snake bites in a week!

No doubt that will be hushed up.

  • In fact the IOW came joint fifth in the UK for having dirt free streets, you must have imagined all the crap in this video.

  • Yes very intriguing - in this survey the Island supposedly came joint fifth Southampton 79th and Portsmouth 159th, I tried to search more details of this"survey" on the internet, in an attempt to establish who carried it out and what the criteria used in judging this was, and the only link I came up with was to the IOW radio story on their website.

One things for sure if this survey is genuine they didn't look in the backstreet's but in the areas that are prepared for the holiday makers.

  • Ahhhh but its clean dirt

  • "Dog Control Orders under Section 55 of the Clean Neighbourhoods and Environment Act 2005."

Clean Neighbourhoods? WHAT A LOAD OF BOLLOCKS THEY TALK!
