this version IS the original and superior. i LOVE Rivers' cover but it is CLEARLY a stripped down copy of this version. Rivers' "emotion" may take a front seat in his version but only because his is a simpler arrangement. also...as stated earlier, Gregg was 16/17 at the time this was written and recorded. and the bombast and contrasts of his arrangement are phenomenal. I bought this on cassette in 89 and it's been a fave ever since.
