I've managed it in normal ice lollies containers, the alcohol content went straight to the bottom so the first thing i tasted was strong rose wine. quite nice n 3 got me tipsy before vwork :)
In Black Books, the glass isn't actually glass. : ) It's sugar glass - you wouldn't even have to break it, really. You'd just eat it along with the lolly. XD
LOL i've always wanted to try this but never got around to it!!! high five for trying even though it may not have had quite the same effect as bernard!! =)
the reason that it didn' t work is that Bernard used alcopops. I dont know if you have them in America, they' re like orange or lime, or whatever flavoured water, with a bit of vodka in them.
Really cool experiment! Be nice if you could get it to set properly, you could maybe try making wine ice cubes? Wouldnt have to break anything, dunno if youd wanna use them as ice cubes though!
If your interested in how they actually made it, Dylan Moran says in the commentary that it was a resin model ;)
Jeff said the same thing - he also said that we might try scoring the bottle before we break it. We also concluded that the substance in Bernard's bottle just can't be wine - it's really brightly colored and is solid. We can't get the wine past being a slushy mix :(

I believe the problem is that when you freeze wine, the sugar and the alcohol will separate, thus spoiling it good and proper.
As for the bottles, they could have held them under hot water before they tried breaking them ;)

Or they could have used sugar glass like they use in the movies...

HAHAHAHA!!!Brilliant!
If you could get your hands on a break away movie prop bottle and then fill it with wine it might just work.
