So after the party ends and the innocent depart, the protagonist descends the tree and is changed. They are no longer count themself as a child. So life goes on and the protagonist shares the knowledge they have gained to help others, for a time it works and life is good. But tragedy happens and once again the protagonist changes, this time becoming aware of the inevitability of death. Despite seeing friends disappear or consumed by hard lives the protagonist still has hope.

Well the song is about a person undergoing a change, deciding who they are and what they want to be. The protagonist of the song goes to a friend's party and separates themselves from the others by climbing a tree. The tree could mean several things most prominent of which since Christianity is mentioned is that the tree is a metaphor for the the Tree of Knowledge. The friend's below are still innocent of the knowledge of good and evil that the tree gives.
