Yes, this is one of the best series of the last 50 years! Downton Abbey which is getting all the attentntion these days is a sad, pale imitation of this classic.

I saw this show years ago, but I couldn't remember the title until today.

At the very beginning, one can see that the house servants are WORSE than the wealthy towards their own lower class. It was a shocking pecking order. The servants had no patience or compassion to the young girl applying for the job.

Incidentally the only episode I hate in the original series is The Swedish Tiger, but I have gathered that is a sentiment shared by most people..Makes you wonder if John Hawkesworth and Alfred Shaughnessy were on holiday when it was made.

And obviously Eileen Atkins feels the same way as she has decided not to appear in the next "new" series due to "issues" with the scripts..Now as somebody who wasn't around until well after the original series ended, even I can see how inferior the BBC version is to the LWT original with it's superficial fluff and melodrama...And you just sense if Gordon, Rachel, Angela, David etc were still alive this new show would not see the light of day..A lot of people will be grateful for your uploads.

I bought these boxsets in 2005/2006 when Network DVD released them..I had only seen parts of the series on a re-run on the defunct Granada Plus channel back in 1999..I know the old UK Gold and UK Drama channels showed them too..It was a great series and It was fascinating to find out why ITV 4 et al always skip the B&W episodes...Personally the BBC continuation of this show I find to be an insult to the original.

My great granny was a domestic servant around this time, she started as a scullery maid when she was only 8 years old. They had to stand her on a bucket because she was too short to reach the sink! My dad always used to tell me about her when I was being a brat and not doing my homework or tidying my room - he would remind me how lucky I was not to have to work 14 hour days!

It's fascinating to watch this and imagine how life might've been for her. Funny how much the world has changed.

Ive heard of that happening before..it all depends on the tv station that is showing it,they have to make way for ads and blend a show in so it doesnt interupt the scedule of other shows.

Youll find every single second of the show on here tho..even the clapperboard on some of the Episodes.

I watched the series ( or parts of it) in my childhood in the 90s , it was a repetition of the series, but my mother remembers having watched them in the 70s already. You have no idea what a THRILL it is to be able to watch this series on your channel! I caught a glimpse of the new Upstairs Downstairs on the local PBS station (I live in California) and, having never before seen any of the old episodes, I was INSTANTLY hooked. And then I realized, if I wanted complete enjoyment of it, I simply HAD to watch the original series before continuing on with the new one. I hoped to find it on youtube - and there it was! Youll never know all that Ive been thru to get this show on here..a task that has stolen a Year from my Life,involving sneaking thru tv studios.. editing&filtering using studio equipement in the early hours when everyone else had gone home..a parking fine,2 punctures&a(car)breakdown..to name a few,but receiving thanks in the way that You give it shows that my efforts have not been wasted.

I saw the first episode of the new US/DS and I prefer it had been done on video tape like the original. It gives it a more realistic feel. But I understand that video is cheaper.

Though you might also consider taking a few old ones off as & when you upload newer ones so as not to have a huge cluster of UD episodes at any given time. Having too many UD episodes on your channel would certainly get the Youtube authorities removing them altogether again!!

All 68 Episodes survived for over a Year on my old channel..it was uploading a certain film that got my old channel closed down..and I blame the recent comeback of the new Up/Down show for my last attempts of uploading to be removed.
