  • I bet that 1 dislike is the Irate Gamer.

  • this is so heavy it makes black sabbath sound like the beachboys

  • clear, transcendental,divine breath

  • LOMBRA SUAVE DO KRAI

  • heaven on earth

  • So Pure. So Deep. Pandit -ji Nikhil thank you.

  • Imho, there's only a few artists that manage to 'extract' the correct emotion from Bhimpalasi. Nikhilda is surely the best of them all.

What a beautiful Alap. 500 years down the line, people will still be listening to this. Its beauty will never fade

  • Yes :I agree with leulal about the sublime quality of Nikhil Bannerji;he is wonderful

  • Exquisite. Absolutely sublime.

  • 1) Smoke pot

    2) Put on this song

    3) Smoke salvia

    4) Enjoy your trip to the 7th dimension

  • @GBart smoke death.

  • I've always felt that Panditji had the most sensitive expression of the sitar. Quiet and contemplative, yet profound. Loved it. Thanks.

  • For one vieuwer is music HARAM.

  • <3

  • anyone know where i can download this for free?

  • He is a Legend and a Perfectionist in sitar. I doubt a sitarist like him is yet to come. What intrigue details he has done!

  • if you disliked this then you must have takin bad acid man. SITAR MUSIC FOR EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Pt.Nikhil Banarji has got a pattern in max of his playing which no body could parallel after a half of century even.Godess Ma Saraswati's blessing are with him always. Even while closing your eyes you can trace that now this is Pt. nikhil Banarji-- He is so simple with a devine smiling gesture always on his cool & learned face and still the gratest and the most simple blessed spiritual son of devi Saraswati... He is greatest Sitarist in the world...I Love him and his presentations...

  • I made 169 likes :D

  • The limit isn't 10 minutes, but 15 minutes.

  • @ToscanoRomano It was 10 minutes when this was posted. Ironically, though, it was always referred to as '10 minutes' when it fact it was 11 minutes - so this would have fitted.

  • Pandit Banerjee awakened my love and respect for the Alap . His depth of tone and respect of the music never fails to humble and inspire.

  • this might be one of the greatest pieces of music ever

  • It's beautiful, it can hypnotize someone

  • i need to buy a bunch of sitar music now and play it all constantly in my room. like just get an RCA speaker system with a 6 CD changer tray thingy and play it all day long. I would make everyone in my family more peaceful and spiritually content just by doing that... OFF TO AMAZON.COM!!!

  • I'm not going to lie, sitars are ballin.

  • I am basically a devotee of the Etawa gharana - it is with one of its scions that I studied the sitar back in the sixties. However, Maihar playing can be ravishing too. This is such an instance. Pandit Banerjee's alap in Bhimpalasi is exquisite - melodic, tender, spacious. I love this clip; thank you for posting it! Isn't it a great tragedy he died so young?

  • @JoelvanLennep yes its a tragedy . same case with Amir Khan. But we have cup half full atleast? or even a drop of nectar

  • What a music ! beautiful, so sublime, touches the soul immensely and makes you wistful almost wishing to die....................to be united for ever with mother nature and celebrate her eternal beauty..........................

  • to bad it was cut off it would have all fit.

  • @drfostersmith No it was just over 10 minutes

  • @daz199md well youtube says the limit is 10min, but its really about 10:58. just so you know for future videos. took me a bit to figure that out.

  • @drfostersmith thanks, good to know

  • why does this remind me so much of pink floyd? not to say pink floyd didnt draw any influences.

  • I thank God for bringing his divine angle Pandit Nikhilji to earth so that we mortals can heal. I have heard many artists who have interpreted this beautiful raag according to their own development and spirituality. I can honestly say that this is the most sensitive, profound and authentic interpretation one is every likely to hear. I am truly grateful to the person who has uploaded this music. Please upload more..

  • Few have a better Khayaal than Banerjee's fellow student Panditji, but no one, and I mean no one, plays better Alaap than Banerjee (that I know of). His poised circular Meend is just tops :)

  • Who CARES when this should be played... Play IT OFTEN. This man speaks the truth ~ The Maestro Pandit Nikhil Bannerjee shows once again why there is simply no comparison to him on on the Sitar. Quite frankly Pt. Nikhil Bannerjee Surpasses with such Great Ease and melodic capabilities combined with years of Pure Technique that There is no Standard to which he does NOT Reach. For anyone. Thank you Dear Friend daz who through his love this music and Nikhil Baba helps keep this music Alive

  • who can describe the timbre and playing style ? and how can this be comapred to western jazz music?

  • @carlosguasch What are you asking?

  • @carlosguasch ~ It cannot be but it is Modal if that helps

  • that is so kool but the pics r odd

  • Simplemente extraordinario

  • good raga! om namah shivaya! this raga is a blessing for all people who study the vedic knowledge!

  • Dont forget to thank Afghanistan for making the instrument responsible for the creation of the Sitar.

  • oops i realised i made a political foohpah, I mean thanx India Pakistan and asny other nation for the evolution of this wonderful musical style and invention and all that share this enriched history.

  • Faux pa**

  • You are right in that music has no boundries although this flavour is definately India and thanx india. Im Australian an seek heart and soul music from around the world. With this stuff that I can get for nothing on the internet enriches me and inspires me to give back. I give thanks to my sharing brothers and sisters around the world. Thank you for this deep and beautiful musical journey.

  • @singularitygirl how would you compare this to western jazz?

  • @carlosguasch well, both jazz and this type of music emphasize improvisation. but certain styles of jazz are somewhat similar on a musical level: modal jazz emphasizes improvisation over given modes, and modes are analogous to ragas. of course the system of modes in western music is not nearly as rich as the system of ragas in indian music. for this reason, some jazz musicians, like john coltrane for example, have turned to eastern music to learn how to play in the modal style.

  • If only Django Reinhardt got a sitar....

  • so so so nice love to all

  • More people should appreciate sitar music. This is really beautiful (:

  • The amazing thing to me is to hear how differently this raga sounds in the hands of Pt. Banerjee versus Pt Ravi Shankar. Both had the same teacher and were undisputed masters of their art. It is a wonderful aspect of this music, how the personality of the artist shines through the music. Thank you for this great post!

  • @ravichandra70 It is very true that the player's personality and mood is expressed even though the same raga is presented. We have to also recognize, the mood also changes by the rythm cycle (tal) that is being used, the tempo (Laya) being used, and only one performance by any one doesn't capture all the possibilities.

  • its not for me,he says.he just thought he would click on this just to tell everyone that!! well, thank you so much for sharing that with us.now we know!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I'm gonna look for some his albums. Took me ages to find a good sitar clip on youtube.

  • This Is amazing really wonderful sound. I herd someone say it takes 20min to lern how to play the sitar but a lifetime to master. So this man is truely a musical genius.

  • Indeed its so very truee...

  • shankar

  • Nikhil Banerjee has always been to me the greatest master of the sitar because of his unique phrasing, melodic expression, and extreme sensitivity. I have this album, of course, as I have most of his recordings. Sadly, few are the students who can emulate the talent, dedication and spirituality of the old masters!

  • @leuolal : may the lineages flourish!

  • Beautiful music

  • oh my god this guy rocks this world alot pakistan zindabad

  • You lost me here; what does sitar playing have to do with Pakistan.....or India; for that matter.

  • @justaname5 considering that it is a classical indian musical instrument... I would say it matters a fair bit!!?? What do you mean by this comment?? It is availiable for all, Im English an enjoy htis music very much, but lets not forget its origin... If you have ever visited India it will touch your soul, and this music reminds me of that time!!

  • I am a child of Mother India, of course. But music, like love, recognizes no national boundries.

In any case, I was just questioning the logic of Mr. stratusfraction in saying Pakistan Zindabad. Neither Jai Hind, nor Pakistan Zindabad belong as a comment on this video.

    Peace and Love!

  • @justaname5

yes :) the really good thing about music is it's for everyone regardless of what lines on a map say. If there's one thing that could unite people then it's music

  • The Ragas came form Vedic Knowledge..

  • Very cool

  • Mind blowing.

    Absolute master

  • Divine! Its apparent that this piece has been played by a Maestro who understood the true meaning of "Classical" music.

  • NB was/ is a true Master and unique.

    Blessed be NB

Roop Verma is similar in style to NB

  • this is one of the most beautiful things I have ever heard. thank you for inspiring me

  • You should hear the rest of the recording then!

  • Thank's for posting this great stuff! Kieran

  • I love this stuff. I can't get enough of the *chime* *bendy sound* *chime* *bendy sound* routine

  • BHIMAPALASI! Wow! Thank you so much..the combination of 2 ragas: Bhima and Palasii.. Aroha: nSgmPnS...Avaroha: SnDPmgRS.. pakad: RnSm__gmPmgRSRS__ Nikhil Banerji has been one of the best sitar player of all the times, the first and the only one to try to overcross the dualism between gayakii anga style of Ustad Vilayat Khan and or the vina style of Pandit Ravi Shankarji..NAMASKAAR...please try to post good things and vibrations. Let stupid and superficial things outside from here. Thanks.

  • of all the music in the world for some reason i can't stand hindu classical :( sorry... it's just not for me

  • hindu classical? that means you can stand muslim classical or what??

  • this is hinduSTANI music not hindu music fool. which community college do you go to which teaches you that badly?

  • it is divine and amazing ! Thank you, Nikhil Banerjee! Music emenating from Sitar is simply wonderful!

  • This is great!!I love the sitar.

  • music is great for the soul, especially sitar and trance music. if you had a rough day, sitar and trance would help set the right vibes of relaxation.

  • I have to listen to this everyday. Its beautifull

  • Rag Bhimpalasi was done by Ravi Shankar so long ago...

A beautiful piece for the afternoon...

    Thanks Nikhil...

    BR

  • Ravi Shankar performed (a real good one) Bhimpalasi long ago in Monterey International Pop Festival. But he did not create the raga. Bhimpalasi was created several hundred years ago.

  • Bhimpalasi, and pretty much every single raag that Ravi Shankar played, was around before him. So what is the point of your comment?

  • I have no words to say , only tears in my eyes .

  • Nikhil is an angel...

  • Right adjective Emil....he was an Angel. And only he could take a person to another world while listening a raga, I often ask to myself, why he left us when he was only 52. Such a loss. Sigh!

  • Comment removed

  • shouldn't this raga be played beetween 2pm and 4pm ??? it's not the dusk raga but late afternoon

  • yeap..you're right...

  • @Rumba3000 i'm not sure, but does exact time matter, or is it only approximate time of day that matters? because my voice teacher told me bhimpalasi is from 3-6pm

  • @dhamal It depends on more on where the sun is...so obviously in different areas of the world and in different seasons this would vary, but bhimpalasi is generally a few hours after noon when the sun is at it's peak, but not quite yet sunset

  • @daz199md and yes, i know i placed mostly images of sunset..don't let that fool you :S

  • @dhamal What really matters is the position of the sun

  • @daz199md @Rumba3000: is the position of sun or the time of day really matters, if the sitar plays the transcendental sound?

  • @Burunduk1984 word up Burunduk

  • My God, it's full of stars :)

  • Absolutely beautiful!!!

  • Nikhil Banerjee is just wonderful music, out of this world !!!

  • Nikhil Banerjee is just woderful, out of this world!!!

  • beautiful.....

  • how can i know or get the other ragas for the morning and so on for the rest of the day?

  • my god,beautiful

  • Wonderfully done. As this is a raga of "the late afternoon," the visually are very well chosen to reinforce this mood. "Bhimpalasi has more deep bass notes than any other raga I have heard. Very relaxing and soothing.

  • Fantastic !! Thanks for posting.

  • amaizing. kieran

  • thnx a ton for posting this...bhimpalasri is my fav raag...
