@MissWooHoo1 I translated it on another vid. It is really hard to hear what he is saying, but as I heard, he said; "AAaaaa~ Dameda!!!" which means "Aaaa~ we're done!"
Or, "Aaaa~ Pawaaaaa(power)" which he repeats several times.
@chesedchesed yes u r right there. thanks for doing that. on another vid i found there is translation, and from what i read the captain screams" Power! Power!" that probably means full throttle kinda thing. then one of the crew members says captain its the end.
@varcolac5 The fact is that they were speaking English at the beginning, but as I understood the American military base got into the channel and they got totally disrupted. So they got the information from Tokyo ATC to the USBase, and from that moment they began speaking Japanese.
@varcolac5 During radio transmissions, only English is allowed. But within the cockpit, pilots are free to speak whatever language they want to each other.
What's with all the ripping on aircraft companies? The crash was caused by an improper repair on the aft pressure bulkhead. The fault lies with the engineer who designed it, and the A&P's who installed it and didn't question the obviously inadequate riveting. Most major airline crashes, though, are pilot error.
@Bajass00 The plane was likely manufactured in the U.S., also English is the international language of air traffic control as well, so most pilots, internationally, are taught English. Sometimes pilots in their native airspace will use that region's language, but it is generally frowned upon.
Later they simulated the very same scenario in a simulator and none of the 4 different flight crews ever managed to keep the plane flying for 32 minutes the real crew did.
A testimony to the pilots giving their everything.

Damn chilling. My Dad had to listen to the flight-box recordings of an Air Canada DC-8 Stretch back in the '70's(he was a lawyer representing people who were on board).
He was really never the same after that. He even told me about it years after when he broke down! The cockpit V/O as well as the cabin V/O.
I love airplanes, but I know so much about them & the potential problems, it makes flying in them always a nerve-wracking experience-like a passenger in a car vs driving it yourself! RIP...
Really daunting to listen to stuff like this, you can just imagine the sheer fright and panic that must go through everybody on board a plane in these circumstances. It makes you shudder. @langhalsen Sounds like your definition of tragedy is the death toll. This is pretty bloody terrible by any one's standard. Many hundreds of people knowing for a long period of time that they would die a violent death. Maybe you should stop splitting people's words . You're coming across as a very pedantic.
@thehitchrules 3 700 000 people compared to 520 is always going to be more tragic, no matter what way they died. Id rather know I would die hours before on an airplane that drowning anyways. And why are you saying i'm very pedantic, a learning disorder, or focusing too much on details.
April 26, 1942 China
1500 miners got trapping inside a mineshaft, some of them died by the shaft collapsing, others starved or dehydrated to death. These people were already slaves, young men and boys.
@langhalsen You should get your head out of your arse . You rude little shit. For me this is is very, very tragic. Don't think you can try and school me in what to think about 'tragedy'. You got it now ?
@thehitchrules Dude relax. I'm sorry if you knew someone who died or got injured. I'm simply saying you can't really be sad about every crash/ earthquake whatever happens to OTHER people than yourself. Yup, go on, call me shit, I won't get offended, compared to you who get offended because I'm saying there's worse things happening right now.
@langhalsen I haven't said i get upset over every crash/earthquake. You really are a first class prick. You just don't take a statement at face -value do you ? You are VERY patronising and very sanctimonious. No more now because you are really are boring me.
The true tragedy of this event is the failure of the both Japan and the USA to cooperate during Search and Rescue efforts. Had the Japanese allowed American forces to conduct Search and Rescue, many more lives would have been saved. Japanese forces did not land in the area till the next night while Americans were ready the day it happened. I hope both countries can learn from this tragedy.
@KOHF34 It wasn't just the vertical stabilizier - NONE of the control surfaces of the plane were operational. They attempted to control the plane with engine thrust (with some success), but in the end, as you can imagine, being able to land safely was virtually impossible. Very sad, I can barely even try to imagine what it would have been like in that plane - knowing all too well that death was certain, but of course hanging on to what little was left.
What an absolutely devastating tragedy. It would have been my worst nightmare come true. To think those poor passengers would have been terrified to such an horrendous degree for half an hour knowing their fate is truly heartbreaking. And the poor pilots too What a brave fight they put up. My heart goes out to all their loved ones.. May they rest in peace, god bless them.
Truly sad. These poor pilots. I read that during simulations of this crash, the pilots testing couldn't keep the plane afloat for as long as these guys did.
First, seems that mrjollypantsjolly started it so where is your comment to him? (thats right, my point seems to make the most sense defending God, instead of attacking Him, so I suppose I was expecting a negative reaction)... Seccondly, fredom of speach...
@Gothorochimaru Sadly God will continue to let his people die horrible deaths every day. People always have , and no doubt always will. They dont deserve it. Some people believe its people paying for sins and all that nonesense. Babies, doctors, nurses, mothers, children all die too............what did they do wrong?! Thats why I dont believe in an all caring "god", or indeed any god. No offence meant to you personally. I would also pray for no more accidents, if there was any God.
People's imperfections cause the accidents, not God... We had our chance at not dying in the begining, but we chose to live without God...
God loves us... However we choose to place such a high proce on life, becasue we do not understand deth's transition to the life hereafter... God is looking out for us... Not for our mortal lives, but rather our immortal soul... Which is more important you think?
@oneinamillion232 Sorry if it was offensive. I didn't mean it to be. I just don't really want to here religious matters. Like I said, sorry if it was a tad bit offensive.
@arborealshrew they screaming "aaaaarrrhh", "more power", "pull up", and "keep trying"... and you can hear that around 0:16 the crew suddenly screaming, because at that time the plane begins to take its final dive to the mountains...
Total loss of the vertical stabilizer left these pilots with less control ability than Al Haynes' crew had. It was a miracle that this plane stayed aloft as long as it did.
@Cancerape there was but the problem, the japanese govenrment don't want the US to be involved in this situation..so much pride even they've lost some of their family members in this final flight :(
Those pilots achieved the near impossible keeping that 747 aloft for as long as they did. Later in simulations, not one pilot managed to do what they did. Whatever else went wrong, they deserve full respect.
@krakenwave And, crucially, they were suffering from hypoxia. If anyone doubts how serious hypoxia is, watch the yooutube video "Pilot Declares Emergency Because Of Extreme Hypoxia" it's incredible. It's the actual recording of a pilot going completely bonkers because of hypoxia talking total gibberish with Air Traffic Control. Luckily, a smart ATC guy finally realizes he has hypoxia and gets him to descend and he returns to normal. Incredible.
When San Francisco had a massive quake in 1906 (105 years ago today) Teddy Roosevelt rejected Japan's gift of aid because it would give the USA "a bad eye" according to Roosevelt.
fuck fuck fuck! once u hear "pull up" ... "pull up" u know the plane is going down... very sad accident :(
note: after the accident, four crews did simulations with the same conditions...none could achieve 32 mins of flying, those pilots went bonkers! but the same happened to an Airbus in the Bagdad airport it was struck by a SAM and the pilots managed the fligth only with differential trusht control...
argueing with someone over this video. yes GOODJOB. real winners here. regardless of who is right or wrong ...keep on doing...AWARENESS IS THE KEY Lol@everyone....
my advice to people is don't make sick jokes about plane crashes. you might just find that could cause the same thing to happen to you. I can assure you this is the worst thing you can ever experience. its said that in some crahses passengers have been ejected out of the airplane at crusinig altitude and may of been concious all the way falling to the water. that is a horrible thing for anybody to have happen.
Hydraulic pressure was lost at 18;24.. At 18;28 Tokio ATC told them to maintain heading of 090 (Mag) . Whilst complying the A/C started oscillating in phugoid and "dutch roll" motions which is when Takahama declared " now uncontrol..." (18;28)
Takahamas last words to ATC was at about 1853 .."Northwest of Haneda. Eh. How, how many miles" (in Japanese, in response to a position request)
i swore to god i would become a pilot becuase of this, ever since i heard this my life has changed for ever, i became a pilot and pray that the crew rest in peace, nobody has ever meant the words rest in peace more than i have.how does a flight crew fly this plane without a tail? why must the lord take 510 lives?did the captain lose it?
@MrTrainwreck09 - Flying is still the safest way to travel... crashes just get played up a lot because if they ARE fatal, there are a lot of people in the back. (And it makes a great news story.) These are great reminders for us pilots, and a solemn way to remember that life is finite, but not at all a reason to be afraid!
@aaron8862006 The safest way to travel is by foot. There is no other way to travel being safer than that. Human beings are not made to travel at speeds more than 3 mph. simple as that. they never have control. the fact that not much happens is due to luck not because of control. A single part of machinery fails and you're dead. No control whatsoever.
@MillyVanillification - That's the most stupid statement I've ever heard. When I fly an airplane, I'm in perfect control, unless some extreme outside force disturbs me. And it has to be very extreme.
When you walk on foot, you're just as vulnerable. One falling rock. Lightning. A snake bite. There unimaginable countless causes of death. "The fact that not much happens is due to luck..."
By your logic, humans aren't meant to wear clothing, so you'd better stop doing that.
@MillyVanillification " Human beings are not made to travel at speeds more than 3 mph."
Are you serious??? Maybe it's the personal trainer coming out in me, but have you ever ran or jogged a mile in your life? Let me guess, you are over weight & get puffed going to the mail box. 3mph. Please! My kids walk faster than that :)
Getting back to the video, it was a sad occasion & many peoples lives were lost. It's sadder that many could have been saved but weren't, due to human pride.
@MillyVanillification control is simply an illusion that humans have created, sounds kinda dumb and you're probably like wtf? and i mean sure, we can control things like what shirt we want to wear, whether we wanna have short or long hair, what foods we want to consume, but beyond that, control is completely out of human hands.
@TheStonerMessiah there is no " japanese airplane ".... it's a boeing operated by japan airlines... and the icao signed english as the international aviation language. those piltos know english becuase you can't work on a international airline without having icao lv4 (english) they were just talking to each other in their own language or... would you talk french when your main language is english under this emergency?
@MrQarnold Sorry, accidently gave you a thumbs up, when i meant to give you a thumbs down for your misinformed comment.
The vertical stabiliser WAS lost from JAL 123. The rear pressure bulkhead failed, with the resulting decompression tearing it away, and severing all main hydraulic systems. Do your research next time!
@zuss10r I did i am a really big fan of Air Crash Investigation, i search every thing to make sure. But the rudder was broken off when the aircraft went in to a 90 * down angle not when the bulk broke.
@MrQarnold May I assist. When the bulkhead ruptured, high pressure cabin air entered the unpressurised empenage. This broke the aux. power unit wall allowing air into the fin. This destroyed the fixture between the stringer and rib chord in the aft torque box, resulting in seperation of a large chunk of fin an rudder, and severence of all 4 hydraulic control lines. This happened over Saruga bay.
The bulkhead failure was due to substandard repair work following a "tail drag" at Osaka , July 1978.
I could care less if I offended you. Your moronic bullshit is about as simple as your mindset. You are still my favourite dumbass. Don't worry about my wife, but tell yours I said "Hi".
Continued: We got word the plane had crashed in the mountains and sat waiting for the Japanese to authorize us to fly in…about an hour later we were disbanded and told the Japanese deemed it too dangerous for rescue. The next day we heard about the four survivors…they talked of the many others who had survived the crash only to die during the night. I have often wondered how many we could have saved if only allowed to try.
Continued: The real message was there a distressed Japanese 747 was diverting to Yokota!! It had lost all hydraulics and was using only engine thrust to steer the plane. As we were supposed to play the Security Police, I made an announcement for all ball players to meet me at the booth. I canceled the rest of the current game and the next game, and then everyone scrambled to their respective stations. Within 15 minutes, we had a full response team with gear on the flight line ready to go.
August 12th, 1985. I ran the emergency services department at Yokota Air Base. It was early evening, around 1840hrs local time and the Hospital softball team was warming up for a game at 7. I heard my name over the PA and went to the booth…there was a phone call from the ER…one of my troops said he just received a message from the crash center stating we were going to have an exercise at 7:47. I knew that could not be true so I asked him to call Base Ops and reconfirm the message.

This one is old but scary, a flood in chine killed 3.7 million people in 1931
Search google, and you will find worse tragedies, not saying this isn't one, but it's certainly not the worst either
langhalsen 8 months ago
@langhalsen Sounds like your definition of tragedy is the death toll. This is pretty bloody terrible by any one's standard. Many hundreds of people knowing for a long period of time that they would die a violent death. Maybe you should stop splitting people's words . You're coming across as a very pedantic.
thehitchrules 8 months ago
@thehitchrules 3 700 000 people compared to 520 is always going to be more tragic, no matter what way they died. Id rather know I would die hours before on an airplane that drowning anyways. And why are you saying i'm very pedantic, a learning disorder, or focusing too much on details.
April 26, 1942 China
1500 miners got trapping inside a mineshaft, some of them died by the shaft collapsing, others starved or dehydrated to death. These people were already slaves, young men and boys.
langhalsen 8 months ago
@langhalsen You should get your head out of your arse . You rude little shit. For me this is is very, very tragic. Don't think you can try and school me in what to think about 'tragedy'. You got it now ?
thehitchrules 8 months ago
@thehitchrules Dude relax. I'm sorry if you knew someone who died or got injured. I'm simply saying you can't really be sad about every crash/ earthquake whatever happens to OTHER people than yourself. Yup, go on, call me shit, I won't get offended, compared to you who get offended because I'm saying there's worse things happening right now.
langhalsen 8 months ago

It's truly amazing how far these pilots were able to keep the plane in the air despite no vertical stabilizer. God bless them.
KOHF34 8 months ago
@KOHF34 It wasn't just the vertical stabilizier - NONE of the control surfaces of the plane were operational. They attempted to control the plane with engine thrust (with some success), but in the end, as you can imagine, being able to land safely was virtually impossible. Very sad, I can barely even try to imagine what it would have been like in that plane - knowing all too well that death was certain, but of course hanging on to what little was left.
12OclockLow 8 months ago
What an absolutely devastating tragedy. It would have been my worst nightmare come true. To think those poor passengers would have been terrified to such an horrendous degree for half an hour knowing their fate is truly heartbreaking. And the poor pilots too What a brave fight they put up. My heart goes out to all their loved ones.. May they rest in peace, god bless them.
oneinamillion232 8 months ago
Truly sad. These poor pilots. I read that during simulations of this crash, the pilots testing couldn't keep the plane afloat for as long as these guys did.
Heroes. Wish you were still with us.

I would also pray for no more accidents, if there was any God.
mrjollypantsjolly 8 months ago 2
People's imperfections cause the accidents, not God... We had our chance at not dying in the begining, but we chose to live without God...
God loves us... However we choose to place such a high proce on life, becasue we do not understand deth's transition to the life hereafter... God is looking out for us... Not for our mortal lives, but rather our immortal soul... Which is more important you think?

Those pilots achieved the near impossible keeping that 747 aloft for as long as they did. Later in simulations, not one pilot managed to do what they did. Whatever else went wrong, they deserve full respect.
krakenwave 9 months ago
@krakenwave And, crucially, they were suffering from hypoxia. If anyone doubts how serious hypoxia is, watch the yooutube video "Pilot Declares Emergency Because Of Extreme Hypoxia" it's incredible. It's the actual recording of a pilot going completely bonkers because of hypoxia talking total gibberish with Air Traffic Control. Luckily, a smart ATC guy finally realizes he has hypoxia and gets him to descend and he returns to normal. Incredible.

my advice to people is don't make sick jokes about plane crashes. you might just find that could cause the same thing to happen to you. I can assure you this is the worst thing you can ever experience. its said that in some crahses passengers have been ejected out of the airplane at crusinig altitude and may of been concious all the way falling to the water. that is a horrible thing for anybody to have happen.

MrTrainwreck09 11 months ago
@MrTrainwreck09 - Flying is still the safest way to travel... crashes just get played up a lot because if they ARE fatal, there are a lot of people in the back. (And it makes a great news story.) These are great reminders for us pilots, and a solemn way to remember that life is finite, but not at all a reason to be afraid!
aaron8862006 11 months ago
@aaron8862006 The safest way to travel is by foot. There is no other way to travel being safer than that. Human beings are not made to travel at speeds more than 3 mph. simple as that. they never have control. the fact that not much happens is due to luck not because of control. A single part of machinery fails and you're dead. No control whatsoever.
MillyVanillification 11 months ago
@MillyVanillification - That's the most stupid statement I've ever heard. When I fly an airplane, I'm in perfect control, unless some extreme outside force disturbs me. And it has to be very extreme.
When you walk on foot, you're just as vulnerable. One falling rock. Lightning. A snake bite. There unimaginable countless causes of death. "The fact that not much happens is due to luck..."
By your logic, humans aren't meant to wear clothing, so you'd better stop doing that.
aaron8862006 11 months ago 12
@aaron8862006 .....You have a point here......Nothing....Absolutly NOTHING happenes by mistake in this world. But I like your point.
fh346 6 months ago

Are you serious??? Maybe it's the personal trainer coming out in me, but have you ever ran or jogged a mile in your life? Let me guess, you are over weight & get puffed going to the mail box. 3mph. Please! My kids walk faster than that :)
Getting back to the video, it was a sad occasion & many peoples lives were lost. It's sadder that many could have been saved but weren't, due to human pride.
wkmitchell 11 months ago
@MillyVanillification you can be shot while walking on foot, mugged, held at gunpoint. hit by a car. anything can happen while you are on foot
haleysmom2009 6 months ago
@MillyVanillification control is simply an illusion that humans have created, sounds kinda dumb and you're probably like wtf? and i mean sure, we can control things like what shirt we want to wear, whether we wanna have short or long hair, what foods we want to consume, but beyond that, control is completely out of human hands.

I know that. But the JAL 123 flight did not lose its rudder, it lost hydraulics because of a bult that broke that because they did not fix it right.
MrQarnold 1 year ago
@MrQarnold Sorry, accidently gave you a thumbs up, when i meant to give you a thumbs down for your misinformed comment.
The vertical stabiliser WAS lost from JAL 123. The rear pressure bulkhead failed, with the resulting decompression tearing it away, and severing all main hydraulic systems. Do your research next time!
zuss10r 1 year ago
@zuss10r I did i am a really big fan of Air Crash Investigation, i search every thing to make sure. But the rudder was broken off when the aircraft went in to a 90 * down angle not when the bulk broke.
MrQarnold 1 year ago
@MrQarnold May I assist. When the bulkhead ruptured, high pressure cabin air entered the unpressurised empenage. This broke the aux. power unit wall allowing air into the fin. This destroyed the fixture between the stringer and rib chord in the aft torque box, resulting in seperation of a large chunk of fin an rudder, and severence of all 4 hydraulic control lines. This happened over Saruga bay.
The bulkhead failure was due to substandard repair work following a "tail drag" at Osaka , July 1978.

I have often wondered how many we could have saved if only allowed to try.
tomshark 1 year ago
Continued: The real message was there a distressed Japanese 747 was diverting to Yokota!! It had lost all hydraulics and was using only engine thrust to steer the plane. As we were supposed to play the Security Police, I made an announcement for all ball players to meet me at the booth. I canceled the rest of the current game and the next game, and then everyone scrambled to their respective stations. Within 15 minutes, we had a full response team with gear on the flight line ready to go.
tomshark 1 year ago
August 12th, 1985. I ran the emergency services department at Yokota Air Base. It was early evening, around 1840hrs local time and the Hospital softball team was warming up for a game at 7. I heard my name over the PA and went to the booth…there was a phone call from the ER…one of my troops said he just received a message from the crash center stating we were going to have an exercise at 7:47. I knew that could not be true so I asked him to call Base Ops and reconfirm the message.
