Annie is one of those photographers who just knows what makes it good photograph and how to take it. I do feel for her though in this clip as it can't be easy to explain death to a child, let alone what you feel on the inside afterwards.
I am graced by Annie Liebowitz's life and by this video. She inspires my life, giving me room to breath and sing in my soul for all the beauty she creates and bears witness to.

I think it was more of a loving relationship. It doesn;t have to hove all the lovey stuff in it. It was more like they have feelings and care for each other.
I have just seen the Liebowitz exhibition in Berlin, which includes this documentary and I was particularly struck and offended by Liebowitz line about Barbra Streisand.
Heres why: Liebowitz is a profoundly talented photographer. Many of her images will very likely be remembered for decades (perhaps centuries) to come. Yet she has allowed her pretensions to something more serious cloud her vision.
She has allowed herself to be convinced that her REAL contribution and legacy (celebrity portrait photography) is unimportant and trivial, and that she must pretend to be James Natchwey in order to legitimize herself. For this weakness of character, I have neither respect nor tolerance.
In this segment of the documentary, we hear Liebowitz recount her experience of returning from Sarajevo, where real people, with real problems are facing life and death situations, making what side Barbra Streisand needed to be photographed from seem unimportant.
Guess what: it IS unimportantto everyone EXCEPT Barbra Streisand and the photographer taking her picture. Perhaps Liebowitz should have refused the assignment if it so offended her sense of proportion.
In Annie Liebowitz, you have the most accomplished Jewish woman working in her field. How interesting that of all the bimbos and himbos Liebowitz has photographed, she uses Barbra Streisand (the most respected and accomplished Jewish woman in HER field) as the symbol of the superficial celebrity. It should also be noted that Liebowitz bears some physical resemblance to Streisandself loathing? Hmmm.
Streisand too, is an artist who feels it necessary to denigrate her REAL contribution (singing) in favor of the contribution for which she will least likely be remembered (directing) Sorry Babs, but Prince of Tides sucks. Sorry Annie, but your Sarajevo images are mediocre. They dont give you more street cred, they simply reveal a deeply insecure artist pretending to be what she is not. By putting the bulls-eye on Streisands back, you unwittingly put yourself in the line of fire.
Wow you really went off on one there, but I totally agree everything I have seen from her that strays away from her strengths as a celeb/rock god shooter is very poor. She needs re-grounding. I saw the show in London and felt cheated. Ditto Babs.
Thanks a lot. Sorry for using your forum as my soap box.
As an artist, I am personally offended that we have allowed the art critics to become more important than the artists themselves.
And again, as an admirer of Streisand, i am really disappointed that Liebowitz targets another accomplished woman as opposed to any of the countless candidates for "Celebrity Rehab" with whom she has worked.
..one last observation: the photos Liebowitz shot of Streisand weren't very good.
I perfectly understand you. I mean I got every part of it. And totally on your side.
But as a person who loves photography, I beleive that when she accepted the assignment with Streisand, she didn't expect to have a hard to taking photos od her.
Like one time, I took photos of the outcome of our economy. And when I was taking pictures of glam in the future, it just didn't feel right, even though I wanted to do it. So...
