My dad used to work at the coal mine in Hyden and we used to cut through there all the time to take the Daniel Boone Parkway up to Ohio. I miss riding in the back of a pick up truck. I miss living in a place where you actually know the people that drive by you on the highway. I miss the smell of the place in the early morning. I miss having a mountain for my backyard. Dayton, Ohio SUX!!! I don't even know my next door neighbor's name!! Nobody knows anybody, nobody ever says hi to you!
What's so odd about that if I sold my Yukon XL for an older Ford truck my friends would ride in the back. Trucks are the best vehicles ever made. You can ride in the back, haul A LOT of stuff, they're cheap, and they're fast.
I spent three years in Hyden (2001 - 2004) and graduated from Leslie County High School. I couldn't wait to get out of there at that point, but looking back, those were some of the best days of my life. It's a very quaint, special little town.
@hackman1911 I went off to college, started my career, and began pursuing my dreams, which unfortunately take me away from Leslie County. Plus, being gay in a small town wasn't (and still isn't, I imagine), easy. But I remember my time there fondly. Some of the nicest, most genuine people anywhere on earth.
