@ring2ding That round is designed to not pass all the way through a target. It loses all it's energy when it hits something soft like a melon, therefore it doesn't go through. It was also designed to disintegrate when it hits a relatively hard target such as a wall or floor, minimising the chance of hitting innocent people. It is useful in aeroplanes as it is unlikely to pass through the skin of the aircraft which would de-pressurise it.

If a crazy person with a concealed weapon, a compact explosive for example, by chance is able to board a plane and is caught trying to detonate it, it would be nice for someone to be able to incapacitate them with a bullet that will stop them but not hit a fuel tank also.

Most .45ACP 185gr. JHPs will penetrate 14 plus inches of human or ballistic gel fairly consistently. That is probably a lot more dense than the watermelon. Try shooting through several melons side by side and check the penetration. It's usually a surprise especially with a 230 gr.FMJ.
next time you should practice on your head its fun try it i bet your friends will be gladly telling the story of your head exploding like that watermelon

Most .45ACP 185gr. JHPs will penetrate 14 plus inches of human or ballistic gel fairly consistently. That is probably a lot more dense than the watermelon. Try shooting through several melons side by side and check the penetration. It's usually a surprise especially with a 230 gr.FMJ.
