Cool vid. I just got my YWG and added the pistol yesterday. I paired them today by catching the goby and laying the net in front of the burrow. He eventually left the net and went straight for the burrow. I wonder if the shrimp excretes a scent or something to attract the goby.
That is awesome! Watchman Goby is on my #1 priority list for my 55-75g SW tank I am setting up! Have you ever had any problem with the YWG or the pistol shrimp?
nice vid! i love your goby/shrimp pair =] Do you know what other shrimp watchman goby will pair with? and how big do watchman goby get? do they pair easier if they are in a smaller tank?
How thick is your sand bed? I have a 3 gallon tank currently since I am at school. I just bought a orange spotted goby. I have about a 3/4 of an inch sand bed. I was hoping to get a pistol shrimp but will 3/4 of an inch of sand be enough to burrow a hole under live rock? also my goby hasnt started sifting sand yet (he's been in the tank for two days) is this normal?
lol at 2:57 when the hermit crabs try to get in and the shrimp is pushing them away. Cool vid man, that's really neat to see a natural relationship like that.
i have a yellowatchman goby i have crushed coral is that bad for him? also he hasnt dug a burow he just goes under a rock. i want a pistol shrimp are they agresive? and would he make friends with the goby
Yellowwatchman gobies like to lay on the sand bed, so crushed coral is probably a little rough for them.
The burrow you see was dug by the shrimp. Before I got the shrimp, the Goby just found places in the rock work to live.
In my experience, tiger pistol shrimp aren't aggressive. But some people say to watch them cautiously just in case since they can be opportunistic feeders. I haven't seen any issues with mine.
I had the goby for a few months before placing the pistol shrimp in the tank. They paired up almost immediately. However, I know some people can have trouble getting them to pair up. It's kind of hit or miss.
When i first bought my WM goby and tiger shrimp they were in two different tanks i just acclimated them in the same bucket for 2 hours they became friends ever since

Nice vid. I love these pairings. Sometimes you can get two gobies per shrimp or two shrimp per goby.

Their relationship is kind of like that in twins.

@MattShock23.
It was a Nasarius Snail mate, not a hermit.
Well spotted though.

Dose it clean the sand like a diamond goby ??
MrTlTO 2 years ago
No, the yellow watchman goby isn't a sand sifter like a diamond goby.
cworkman74 2 years ago
What kind of sand is that? Is that play sand or actual ocean sand? Its gorgeous
MrChrisDilly 2 years ago
It's Carrib Sea Aragamax sand. It's very white once in the tank and is very fine.
