Thank you so much for bringing these wonderful songs back. I, too, grew up to my Dad with tears rolling down his face listing to My Son the Folk Singer, etc.
My Dad had the album "My Son the Folk Singer" and played it often when I was a kid. I never knew that the songs were take offs of other songs until I was in my 20's....
If someone could find "You Went The Wrong Way Ole King Louis" by Allan Sherman, it would be greatly appreciated. My parents made me listen to this and haven't forgotten a tune. Thanks so much for putting it out there.
@crosslynne: There was a limited edition box set of the almost-complete Allan Sherman works. Short of that, I think that song is on the Rhino records best-of CD.
This is the version I learnt. I had never heard of Harry Belafonte. Sir Greenbaum's Madrigal (aka Greensleeves) and The Streets of Miami were also favourites.
I grew up listening to Allen Sherman. I remember hearing that he had died. I think he was the first performer of any kind that I remember hearing of their death.
Have to say, not a bad rendition of yet another great Allan Sherman classic. (Sure beats the one with the guy singing offkey in his shower!). I guess tossing in a few goyum didn't hurt, either. Ladies of Hadassah....
I havent heard this since I was a kid.I had the album and would always listen to it.I loved it.Thanks so much for playing it.You sang it just like him.Thank u.

Can't make the show because I'm too far away, but give me Jack Cohen and I don't care!

Ha! That cracked me up. (There probably aren't a lot of people you can crack up these days with that line.) Nice.
