wow this is so amazing reading the book Killing of The Unicorn and seeing part two where Peter Bogdanovich is standing at the sidelines seeing Dorothy. is so eerie that the year after dorothy was going to fall in love with him and Peter was going to write a book about the roller disco and describe how Dorothy looked. The only reason Richard Dawson was chosen to host this special was because he was the emcee of ABC's most successful daytime game show at the time, "FAMILY FEUD". Apparently, the network felt his presence (along with Wayland Flowers and his "Madame" puppet) would blunt the overall "naughtiness" of the Playboy image to viewers. I also remember things got pretty boring towards the end...
I remember this one- it aired on November 23, 1979 at 10pm(et), right after "Birth of the Beatles", a two-hour TV movie produced by Dick Clark dramatizing John, Paul, George, Ringo, Pete and Stu's early days before "The Beatles" became "THE BEATLES" (soundalike music by "Rain").
What a great time the late 70's disco era were. A time when all women were sexy with decent figures not this terrible size zero of today. A time when cars had power and a engine noise that would scare animals when you put your foot down, not like the imported plastic cars with their hybrid engines of today. A time when music had meaning and you could understand what they were singing about. Unlike the copied re hash made up songs of today. A time that was better and happier than today is.
Is it just me or were the late 70's and early 80's the absolute best?! You had real, natural women, good stuff on tv, good music, wonderful films, and everything wasn't so PC like it is now. I was only 1 year old when this was filmed but I would have loved to have been in my late teens during this era. This is still rather sad because of what happened to that beautiful soul Dorothy Stratten though. These were certainly the days however. The peak of American pop and sub culture in my opinion.
