  • Jessica Lange did amazing job in Tootsie and she deserved an Academy Award for Best Actress in a Supporting Role and won.

  • @LangeFanForever. I thought of her as a lead actress in that movie and should have been nominated for that.

  • i'm surprised i don't see the changes in her manners she's still very lovely+i don't like her dress but i think it was stylish in 1983;P

  • her castmate didn't look that happy...

  • Sigourney is sooo gorgeous! Lesley Ann Warren should have won this Oscar though! Jessica isn't the worst winner, I suppose.

  • They should give Glenn Close an honorary oscar just for the sheer number shes been nominated for

  • i was actually named after Jessica Lange and i'm proud of it! :)

  • Kim Stanley looks like Vickie Rice.

  • they gave it to her because they couldn't give her best actress because of Meryl Streep.

  • her hair.... her dress.... the horror!

  • Meryl Streep won Best Actress that year for Sophie's Choice and Jessica was also nominated for Frances...she was brilliant in Frances

  • I didn't realise Teri Garr was nominated too. I do remember that Jessica Lange was also nominated for best actress for Frances.

  • Tough year! It feels like it's going to go to Leslie Ann but, then it's Jessica. Two great and very different types of performances.

  • jessica lange deserved it for frances and kim stanley and teri garr shoulda tied for supporting..in my opinion

  • Jessica Lange is one of my favorite actresses, but she wasn't that overwhelming in "Tootsie". I figure they gave her this because they weren't going to give it to her for "Frances", and thus Kim Stanley and Lesley Ann Warren both got screwed.

  • SHe won for her role in Tootsie or her "Tootsie Roll".

  • She won for her role in "Tootsie", or her "Tootsie Roll".

  • She was rubbish!

  • How young everyone was! Youth comes and goes so fast.

  • she didnt deserve an oscar for that role. It was NO acting challenge

  • @krystalnat I totally agree. Should have been Leslie Ann Warren or Glenn Close. Jessica Lange's role was NOTHING special. That said, I loved her in MUSIC BOX, she was nominated for Best Actress for that.

  • A bra might've been a good option for her, maybe.

  • neither Garr nor Lange deserved it. Lesley Ann Warren was better!

  • Ah, the 80's.......

I wonder how many times the segment between 1:10 and 1:25 has been watched?

  • Was that Sigourney Weaver with Robert Mitchum?, Wow.

  • Teri Garr deserved to win this Oscar HANDS DOWN!! One of the rare comedic performances that were recognized for an Oscar nomination for an actress. Very sorry about her many health problems in recent years.

  • @JOJO22858 ...Bull, Jessica was electric in every scene in Tootsie. Plus, Jessica had her tremendous lead performance in "Frances" that year too.

  • @JOJO22858. She knew she wasn't going to win it when she turned down advances from a certain producer. Teri liked Glenn's performance in the "World According to Garp" and thought she would win.

  • All the actresses who were up for the Oscar were good here. Anyone of them could have gotten it and deserved it.

Jessica Lange had that "look" that spelled winner, she fits the Hollywood mould, if you get my drift.

  • Glenn Close should have won!!

  • Terri Garr should have gotten it..she was amazing..

  • I think Lesley Ann Warren thought she was going to win. I love Jessica Lange but, I would have given it to Ms. Warren that night.

  • If the Award would have been based on looks, either Terri Garr or Lesly Anne Warren would have won that night

  • Lesley Ann warren deserve it too! D:

  • Someone's not wearing a bra LOL I love Jessica Lange, I have watched Sweet Dreams a million times and even though the movie is cheesey, she deserved an Academy Award for the job she did!!!

  • I forgot about Glenn Close in GARP. She was a force in that film. "They were all brilliant" is correct. I remember watching this live.

  • There were three ladies that deserved an oscar that night:

    1) TERI GARR

    2) JESSICA LANGE

    3) TOOTSIE, a.k.a DUSTIN HOFFMAN

  • lange was good glenn close was magnificant in garp

  • As much as I LOVEEEEEE Jessica Lange, I think Teri Garr's performance was awesome in Tootsie considering the challenge it presented with the different emotions she portrayed with such ease.

  • Glenn Close must get an oscar.

  • terri garr's face: priceless

i loved her in after hours

tootsies great, though i cant get that annoyingly 80sish song out of my head. somethings telling me it might be you...

  • Teri Garr Perfect!!!

  • I'm suprised Lange didn't thank Kim Stanley, who advised her to do Tootsie after coming off the harrowing experience that was Frances.

  • She's so brilliant and beautiful! Watching her eat a meal all alone in a retaurant in Sante Fe was one of the lovliest things I've ever witnessed!

  • @37terraplane ummm stalkerishhhhhh.

  • I'll be honest she did a pretty good job acting but while watching the movie I feel like she was overshadowed by Dustin Hoffman's performance.

I mean she was okay but she wasn't spectacular in my opinion then again I didn't see her competition except for the other chick from tootsie(I wasn't even born yet during this time I wasn't born until 91).

Anyway Tootsie was an Amazing movie very funny.

  • Jessica Lange was wonderful in Tootsie and made the part. Teri Garr is brilliant but her part wasn't as central to the movie. This was one of my favorite movies as a kid and still is. I love her acceptance and she actually seemed surprised and genuine in her acceptance.

  • She did not deserve this award for Tootsie. There was nothing noteworthy about her performance, she played a sweet innocent american girl, nicely..hardly a stretch.

  • The only reason why I watched this clip was I recall that Jessica Lange wore no bra that night ( * )( * ) yeah baby

  • oooo sigourney quand tu nous tiens #-____#

  • Some awesome movies and actresses!

  • Loved Jessican Lange in the movie Sweet Dreams.

  • One of Oscars biggest mistakes ever.

  • Lange should not have won for Tootsie..it was a consolation prize for losing for Frances....

  • @MissLizaMay Oh, I know! Lesley Ann Warren is still so effing cute. lolz

  • I love Lesley Ann Warren's reaction at 1:20! It's such a "Oh Darn!" moment. Personally, she and Teri Garr were my favorites that year.

  • That was the only time, the theme song from Tootsie was put to strings.

  • In King Kong she looked 100 times more sexy. Someone should torture and kill her hair dresser.

  • As a fan of Lange I would say that most films she's been in is better than Tootsie.

  • @MsSarjen ...Well, Tootsie is one of my all-time favorite movies. I never get tired of watching it.

  • Glenn Glose looks sooo beautiful at 0:26.

  • I love Jessica Lange

    She's made Tootsie Tootsie

  • Swinging boobies!!

  • i love love love lange but terri garr should've won!

  • Lange did not deserve that Oscar. Glenn Close did. This was a consolation prize for not winning Best Actress. Lange is a snore and she's a shiksa, royalty in Hollywood.

  • She is my cousin!!!!!!!!

  • @DivaCity101 who? who is your cousin?

  • Sigourney looks ALOT like Madeline Kahn!

  • Kim Stanley should have won for advancing the art of acting. Jessica was taking private acting lessons from her for years after this as well.

  • robert mitchum still "sounds" sexy in senile years.

    and jessica lange is HOT.

  • That year 1983 Jessica Lange was nominated for both Best Actress in a Leading Role (Frances) and Supporting Role (Tootsie). Well-deserved for Tootsie!! Meryl Streep won the best actress in a leading role for Sophie's Choice. Well-deserved winners that year!!

  • Garr should have def won over Lange.

  • HOLY

  • Comment removed

  • She could've gave the Great Robert Mitchum a peck on his cheek.

  • teri's face...lol...she was like: "seriously?...that bitch"

  • I love Jessica Lange and I love Leslie Ann Warren, but Glenn Close was robbed!!

  • Wow Jessica was gorgeous back then. And Sigourney too.

  • Tootsie is my all-time favorite movie and I love Jessica Lange, but this award was undeserved. I would have voted for Great Glenn Close or Teri Garr.

  • I love Robert Mitchum. He is a HUNK!

  • when will women ever start to not wear bra again. lol

  • I thought Teri should of won, but Jessica was good as well.

  • @toplaycool19 Ha! You must be referring to Jessica Hangs...uh, I mean Lange.

  • Jessica Lange and Sigourney Weaver, with both I fell in love when I was a kid. :)

    They are both great actresses.

  • @khunkitek jessica was totally hot on that remake....with jack nicholson...the postman always rings twice...wow...like..seriously steamy performance

  • Jessica Lange is a fabulous lady, but I really loved Teri Garr in "Tootsie".

  • Jessica should have won for 'Frances'. I love the way shes so uncomfortable its sort of sexy

  • sigourney was so hot there!! and she still is!!

  • DAMN! Sigourney was hot!!!!!

  • My god, she wobbles under the weight of her own sexiness.

  • I love Sigourney Weaver!!! She's gorgeous here!!!

  • Great video!!

I love Jessica Lange, she is so beautiful...Wow! Thanks for posting this.

  • for me, teri garr was more deserving!

jessica was great....she was my 2nd choice....but terri was first!

  • @aayaanrox the same year jessica was nom for francis which she was real good in but they already had their pick for best actress so they gave her the supporting to make up for it i think.terri wass better in tootsie.

  • Agreed. They were both perfect, but what Terri did looks harder to do than what Jessica did!

  • How 80´s is Sigourney Weaver´s dress?

  • Teri Garr's was better. Jessica was great too, but I prefer Garr

  • Sigourney young is very similar to Dana (the player tennis)from The L Word...

  • Dios que hermosa esta Sigourney Weaver aqui, nunca la habia visto de esa forma.

  • that was THE WORST intro script i've ever heard!!

  • I think Jessica won for Tootsie because she was also nominated for Frances, but was certainly gonna lose to Meryl Streep in Sophie's Choice so they gave her the trophy for Tootsie, which was really a trophy for Frances. That's how I see it.

  • yoou don't know what your talking about

  • The reason Jess won that award was compensation for stiffing her on Best Actress for Frances.

  • @daisyhead stiffing. She was nominated. Sorry but Meryl was better so she won - Teri was better than Jessica and she should have won.

  • I always adored Jessica! Not sure if she deserved to win this. Many say NO!

She was nominated, she had a chance of winning and she did. We have to accept it. Nothing is perfect in this world. Not even the Academy Members!!

  • lovely, modest and demure when she had every reason not to be.

    Love her so much.

    Real classy lady.....

    nothing but love for her.

  • Jessica was superb that year.

  • A bra would have been nice, Jess!!

  • Some panties too.

    Going commando is not attractive!!

  • wow, sigourney sure looks hot... :P

  • hey jessie where was yor PLAYTEX ??

  • The movie was right, the name wasn't. I've seen Tootsie two billion times and I know the whole movie by heart and I can honestly say, that Teri Garr did a far better job than Lange. Glenn Close was also great, but the more I watch Garr, the more convinced I am that she was the best.

  • @dinasztie I agree with you about Terri Garr. Jessica won because she was cast as more of a leading lady, while Terri was more comic relief. Jessica also puts on more of a star-like vibe. She seems to take herself more seriously.

  • I disagree. Lange's beautiful performance deservedly won the prize.

  • Lange was the best!

  • Lange was the winner as soon as the nominations were announced. She was brilliant that year.

  • @Kalamac14

To Kalamac, it was really a tie with Glenn Close, and frankly Teri Garr was so brilliant in the same movie, Kim Stanley is the greatest, and Leslie Ann Warren was very deserving. Could have gone any way.

  • @725Mama

I think the fact that Lange was the first actress to be nominated in two different categories BA and BSA,since the early 40's,made her the front runner from the beginning.Glenn Close was too strange for an 82 win,Teri Garr was way too light and one note,Lesley-Ann Warren was too much of a cartoon character, and Kim Stanley was too horrible of a character to win against the double nominated, luminous heart of "Tootsie".

  • Lange was the best!

  • The right girl won.

  • Terri Garr should have won.

  • could your name be more disgusting or degrading?

  • Dustin should've won all the awards. Except for Bill Murray's part as his roomate.

  • would have given it to Teri Garr or Leslie Ann Warren or Kim Stanley - THEY deserved it - not lange.

  • I totally agree with you. For me, it would've gone to Lesley Ann Warren. She was brilliant in "Victor, Victoria".

  • She is so beautiful...

  • One of the WORST wins ever.

  • STFU and get a fucking life you asshole

  • One of the worst?!

I just do not at all get the hate for this fantastic performance. What's so special about the bland Terri Garr?

  • please post jessica lange's win for Blue Sky!

  • I am SO happy Jessica won! She completley deserved her Oscar, in a performance that is severely underrated.

    What with all the hate!?

Terri Garr didn't even deserve a nomination!

  • The press has tried to manipulate popular opinion into declaring Lange a great actress. Her acting is OK, neither great nor terrible.. Nothing less, nothing more. Regarding her personal appeal, such as it is, I've never found her sexy. Granted, Lange isn't hard to look at. But something or some things about her -- perhaps the weak and poorly-inflected voice, or the pushy, tense acting, as when she tries to convey strength with rigidity -- turns me off.

  • Thanks for putting into words everything I ever felt about Lange. While I think she's an OK actress, I never could pinpoint what made her slightly irritable to me.

  • I wanted Teri Garr.

  • me too

  • langes role was a lead role..terri garr was the supporting role....lesley ann was the funniest, but kim was pretty scary as the mom in frances...

  • Kim Stanley in Frances should have gotten it. Phenomenal.

  • Sigourney Weaver is brilliant actress. I still can't believe that she hadn't the Oscar

  • @AlexBlend The same to Glenn Close.

  • Pretty plain looking dresses in those days

  • dustin the best

  • I realize that Jessica L. won Best Supporting Actress. Sydney Pollak should have been nominated for & WON Best Supporting Actor. He was excellent as George Fields in TOOTSIE.

  • Lesley Ann Warren was wonderful in that film....she deserved the oscar!!

  • I absolutley Agree with you...She was hytarically funny...I cry laughing everytime i see her in Victor/Victoria :)

  • This was a consolation prize to Lange for being nominated in both Best Actress and Supporting Actress roles and in my opinion she deserved neither... Garr was robbed as her performance in Tootsie was stronger than Lange's by a landslide

  • This was obviously a consolation prize for giving such an impressive performance in Frances. She should have won best actress. Lange as Frances Farmer is probably one of the finest performances on screen.

  • Sigourney looks great here!

  • i didnt even recognize her

  • I think this is the year when Glenn Close should have won the Oscar for her beautiful work in The World According to Garp. She was magnificent in it. Too bad she hasn't won any Oscars (yet).

  • robert mitchum... ha ha ha... was always notoriously known and open about his weed smoking

  • the first of many awards to be cruelly denied to glenn close, though kim stanley would also have made a worthy winner.

  • she bet out two of her co-stars for different movies, kym and teri for frances and tootsie respectively, and she was also nominated for frances in the leading catagory, she was better in frances but not as good as meryl in siophies choice

  • It's true if you think of it, the nomination for best leading role actor and actress should have both gone to Dustin Hoffman lmao

  • You notice how Jessica delivers her acceptance speech in a very sexy way. Very subtlely, but she oozes sex in her body movements and voice.

  • mmm, she's a great beauty here but quite mannered and affected imo

  • Jessica should have stayed with this face.

  • Hers was a leading role In 'Tootise' though. Happens a lot - the lead role wins for supporting....

  • How was it a leading role? She wasn't the subject. Dustin Hoffman was.

  • Exactly. Just 'cause she was the actress with more screen time in the movie doesn't make it lead. The movie was about Michael/Dorothy. Jessica's Julie supported him. They didn't share equal screen time or close to it. Basically, Dustin was only lead, everyone else was supporting.

  • The most interesting part of the clip is 1:20, watching the reactions of all 5 actresses. Close & Warren are the best: they put on gracious smiles immediately. Check out Garr: she is NOT happy.

  • I agree.I think when Garr heard Mitchum say" Surprise" (117)she thought maybe she had a chance, but he was just being funny. That night I watched it on TV, was clear Garr never had a chance. For me she was the weakest of the five.America and the Academy fell in love with Jessica Lange and they weren't going to let her go home empty handed.

  • Comment removed

  • So glad Lange won that year. She won most of the critics awards and was the favorite....brilliant actress!

  • Just after the announcement, Kim Stanley's face like ahh fuck it you gotta be kiddin' me!

  • it's a year for 1949 actresses.

    S.Weaver present,

    Jessica Lange, Meryl Streep won

    Sissy Spacek nominated

  • That's awesome!
