I like the 1981 recording the most. It is much more reflected and precise.

More pronounced left hand in the 81 version, drier and less pedal; I prefer the more singing, spontaneous, joyful 55 version.

Both much too fast. One great advantage to playing it slower is that it gives more time to enjoy the variation.

Hey bachscholar, would you care to comment/criticize/feedback on my 'guitar version' of it. Its in the "video responses"? I ask you because I've seen your videos and it would be nice to get feedback from a well trained musician. Thank you.

Thanks for the video. I just commented on it.
Do you actually consider the 81's version much too fast? Wierd. His tempo is slower than yours...

There is a big difference.
1955: Youtfull abandon and spontaneity, miracolous technique.
1981: Reflective wisdom, mathematical precision and the clarity of digital sound.
Performed by the brilliant and hansom Glenn Gould.

pretty much the same interpretation, exept that AMAZING ralentendo at the end of the 81 version.
The 81 version is like good wine, well aged.

A balnce of the hands too, I notice. Not just the treble that Gould liked so much.

Technical brilliance and outstanding musicianship. I can´t believe it.

In this variation Gould decided to show us your pianistic technique.
