I only really became aware of her when I started watching her on Youtube after VMA 2011. Became fascinated and have watched everything now. I never paid attention to pop music. The problem with Gaga, which really is indicative of pop music in general, is that nothing new is being brought to the table. She is good at taking bits of things from people like Bowie, Madonna, Grace Jones....real trailblazers and sampling their originality into her look/music. There is nothing that she does that hasn't been done before her and better than she does it.
I don't generally listen to pop cause i'm a big fan of metal but i sometimes get sick of all the screaming and then from time to time i listen to some of the songs from Michael Jackson like Bad, Beat it, Billie Jean etc. and Lady Gaga's Just Dance, Pokerface and Bad Romance etc.
I'm generally in the state of mind if it's not death metal or classical, gtfo. However, I have heard her before she was Lady Gaga and she is actually a talented musician. I am actually happy for her and the population at large. It is nice to have a REAL musician at the top of the charts instead of some stooge. As a musician, I agree, it is refreshing and it is nice to finally be represented, in a roundabout way, in the pop industry.
I'm a metalhead and I dislike this genre of music(with some rare exceptions..like..really rare) but Lady Gaga is totally not worthless or talentless, in fact I believe she has a lot of talent and what people need to realize is that by the end of the day she is an entertainer and she does a pretty good job at it. I don't hate here music, but i do hate her artistic style shes trying to make and her little monster thing she has going on. I only really became aware of her when I started watching her on Youtube after VMA 2011. Became fascinated and have watched everything now. I never paid attention to pop music. I think she is mythic, archetypal, extraordinarily talented, hardworking as you said, her lyrics and dance beats bring happiness to all us jam-alongs. I think she is a genius (and my youtube favs have no shortage of genius conglomerated together is some of my playlists)....bless you for articulating her gifts so well

Like you said, other band members of this time are rubbish, some of her songs I will admit are pretty meh but it's understandible to see her at where she is. And as for the "I wanna take a ride on your disco stick" line. What artists DO you listen to and like? If it's not a Disney one then chances are they've written a song or had a lyric about wanting sex. It's that way in the present, and it's been that way for just about as long as music has existed. So criticizing Lady Gaga for that is close-minded.

The line is ridiculous and the song got no meaning at all, which the "disco stick" line shows. If she was to be an artist in my point of view, she got to write ALL of her songs and believe me she didn't write pokerface. And pokerface is the song she got initially famous for. It's a ridiculous song and a riduculous way to get fame!

"Poker Face" isn't about playing a game of poker. It's about hiding your sexuality.
"Paparazzi" isn't about the paparazzi, but fame and how it affects celebrities and their death. Do they kill themselves, or does the same kill them?
"Dance in the Dark" isn't another dance song you'll find in a club, it's about being insecure of your body and only wanting sex in the dark.

@avatarjeroen13 It's not clear because the lyrics aren't literal. But if you take the meaning into consideration while reading the lyrics it becomes clear.
For example, "Baby likes to dance in the dark (she wants sex in the dark) 'cause when he's looking she falls apart.
Telephone" is not about bad phone reception, it's about being obsessed with your work that you cannot find time to enjoy yourself. 'I don't want to talk anymore, I've left my head and my heart on the dance floor.'

I don't have a problem with lady gaga per se, but I feel the problem is her fans who laud her as a musical genius and refuse to acknowledge her influences and the like. The way I see it she writes slightly above average pop music, is an excellent pianist (like you said) and the only thing that really makes her stand out is her look and she has embraced that whole hog to make it work
To put it simply she is this generations madonna, she just has to go to more extremes to have the same impact

The problem with Gaga, which really is indicative of pop music in general, is that nothing new is being brought to the table. Credit to her for writing her own "lyrics", yet she has the feeling for me, that its all been done before. She is good at taking bits of things from people like Bowie, Madonna, Grace Jones....real trailblazers and sampling their originality into her look/music. There is nothing that she does that hasn't been done before her and better than she does it.

I'm generally in the state of mind if it's not death metal or classical, gtfo. However, I have heard her before she was Lady Gaga and she is actually a talented musician. I am actually happy for her and the population at large. It is nice to have a REAL musician at the top of the charts instead of some stooge. As a musician, I agree, it is refreshing and it is nice to finally be represented, in a roundabout way, in the pop industry.

I'm a metalhead and I dislike this genre of music(with some rare exceptions..like..really rare) but Lady Gaga is totally not worthless or talentless, in fact I believe she has a lot of talent and what people need to realize is that by the end of the day she is an entertainer and she does a pretty good job at it. Also not being a vocalist that simply modifies the voice using a fuckshitcomputer and branding it as music is working for her reputation at least to people like me that can respect that.
