dream theater is not the first progressive metal band. queensryche has released the first progressive metal album in 1983 with queen of the reich. there were a lots of progressive metal bands before them. like fates warning and watchtower. dream theater are only the most popular band and certainly not the band that makes the most interesting music. and boysmeetdrums, you certainly do not play drums to make such a statement. portnoy is the most overated drummer in the world.
again the dream theater reference. if there is a band in this world that do not sound like friggin dream theater it is andromeda. thomas lejon is the sickest drummer in the genre.
@stromghouls I used to get p'oed when people made reference to DT each time they heard something that was more complex. Then I realized it's the only band they know, and possibly only because their friend told them it's cool to know DT. I listened to DT before they became famous. I can't stand them now, won't ever listen to them anymore, it's a waste of time that I candedicate to other, better bands instead. If I ever hear LaBrie again, I will break the source of that pathetic sound he makes.

It should be a compliment when someone compares them to DT, they're saying that they're good enough to be compared to DT. To me though, they sound like coheed and cambria mixed with a bit of symphony x, but that's just my opinion.
@stromghouls Sorry, but Portnoy is better. Now if you said the vocalist is better, well EVERYBODY knows that. LaBrie is WORTHLESS. LaBrie should have left and Portnoy should have stayed. Im interested in who DT is gonna recruit for the new spot as drummer and where Portnoy is going to go..Oh and NO they sound nothing like DT. DT is too technical w/ the playing. Andromeda is more..uh..more "Pound It in Your Face". BOTH are great bands, 'nough said.
