And that probably has to do with him fighting for peace and the sovereignty of his people and to generate the political will to take a stand on the Tibet issue. Who can you prove existed? Jesus? No actually you can't prove that. You can't prove it and no you definitely can't prove it as much as George Washington. Why should his message be more complicated than it needs to be? I would not underestimate this man, if he is there to educate a large group of people who are mostly unfamiliar with buddhism, then it would make sense that he would make it as understandable and simple as he possibly could. if you dont think it was intellectual enough for you, why dont you try reading any of his books, because if you can follow what he is saying, i can almost guarantee that it will be enlightening for you.
