This song is thrillingly amazing. I can't believe how rock'n'roll Sesame Street once was. I mean, Muppet Show had Electric Mayhem, Sesame Street had Little Jerry and the Monotones, and it's all so cool for children's programming.
They played this song on Plaza Sesamo recently. The voice actress in the Spanish language version didn't nail the Nina Blackwood voice as well as Fran Brill did, but it was decent.
clap 3 times...s pin around and say the name of the person you want to be with? forever...post this on 7 pages and this saturday that person will suddely relize how much you mean to them... you dont do this... that person will think the oppiste and never want to see you again... it worked for mee! just tryy it!
Nick Normal and the Nickmatics should have played at CBGB's :p!! They totally sound like one of those new wave groups who got their start at the club (Talking Heads, Blondie, etc.) Then again maybe the Old Grey Whistle Test might've been more their thing since "The Letter N" bears quite a striking resemblance to The Police IMHO.
My name starts with N, so naturally I immediately took a liking to this video. However, it's truly a classic and one of my favourite Sesame Street songs, N name or not.
I loved the Sesame Street songs about letters. Does anyone know what happened to that thing with Sherlock Hemlock singing about X? It was here a while ago, but not anymore...
yessssssssssssssss!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! oh i was hoping it woudl be on the youtube! this is my favorite sesame street letter sponsor :d. i grew up in the late 80s and i hadnt seen this since i was like 5. so its so greattttttt!!!!!!! thank youuuuu!
I think I remember seeing this in the 90s.. yup, I sure do! The ending is so familiar! So, they did keep most of their sketches. Even the little kids I know today say they still play the pinball song and other greats. So...
Now it's stuff like this that made Sesame Street edgy and great in the 1980's! I really wish they could go back to Muppet parody versions of celebrities singing muppet parodies of their songs... and not the real James Blunt and stuff like that (though the REM one was great!)
I love how scared Nick sounds when the giant purple N shows up at the end lol.BTW,are Nick Normal and the Nickmatics supposed to be like a parody of the Goo Goo Dolls or any other Punk and New Wave band?
This video always freaked me out, I loved the song but at the end it was like the giant letter N was finally coming to finish them off after toying with them the whole time XoD
LOL I thought it was cool too, just kinda freaky. I always felt bad for the puppets cause it seemed like it was coming to kill them or something haha! That and the fact that the music goes all trippy at the end; it sounds all forboding and evil :P
Isn't Nora Nicks supposed to be a parody of another female MTV music video host?I haven't watched MTV ever since they cancled Wonder Showzen and Andy Millanokis and stopped airing reruns of Beavis and Butthead. That's why I'm asking.
This Is A Cool 80s Sesame Street Music Video. It's NNN NN Nice It Begins with an N NNN NN Nice There it Goes Again NNN NN NN Nice Again And Again The Letter N.
Actually I don't think it was that reason.I think it was because of the changes in 1998 when Elmo's World came on.One of the changes were retiring alot of 80's material, hencing this for instance.
"The Letter N" starring Nick Normal and the Nickmatics on NTV. Wow, when I saw this when I was a kid, I was totally gripped by it. I thought it was extremely hot, rocking, awesome and funky. I still think it is today, and I love those electric guitar licks at the start!
Well it's very similar to The Beetles hit "Thinking of U". You noticed that through 3/4 of the song they had a small shiny u showing, but near the end of the song they had a humongous u coming down. It's pretty much the same thing with Nick Normal's music video.
BTW,did they do a special microphone effect on some of Nicks singing?Cause on some lines it sounds like there is another person with his voice singing along with him.
The black and white footage, the bass riff to the verses, along with the first person lyrics, lead me to think that Joan Jett's "I Love Rock and Roll" was part of the inspiration.
What kind of surprises me is that Nick doesn't even notice that the people working for Nino's are the Nickmatics themselves. :P

at least the "N-words" used still work (nothing-nada, never-nunca, no-no)
the same words work in Russian as well (nichego, nikogda, nyet), but not in Hebrew or Arabic ;)
