  • What kind of surprises me is that Nick doesn't even notice that the people working for Nino's are the Nickmatics themselves. :P

  • It's Nine Inch Nails stuff to me

    :¬)

  • I remember this one!

And remember it being a little depressing...

  • Holy hell! My childhood! :D

  • i loved this song since i was a child .I been searching for the last year and finnally found it!!

  • Gotta love Jerry N-N-N-Nelson's singing voice!

  • I miss this song it's my favorite!

  • This song is thrillingly amazing. I can't believe how rock'n'roll Sesame Street once was. I mean, Muppet Show had Electric Mayhem, Sesame Street had Little Jerry and the Monotones, and it's all so cool for children's programming.

  • Sesame Street also had Chrissy and the Alphabeats, and How Now Brown Cow and the Moo Waves.

  • everything was cooler 20 years ago. human condition.

  • ok, so there really is a song that sounds like this, what group did sesame street sample from?!

    argh, its killing me!

    someone help!

  • Hah...I remembe this. I t sounds kinda like Tom Petty singing with Adam and the Ants!

  • Today's Sesame Street will N-N-N-Never be the same as it used to be.

  • They played this song on Plaza Sesamo recently. The voice actress in the Spanish language version didn't nail the Nina Blackwood voice as well as Fran Brill did, but it was decent.

  • at least the "N-words" used still work (nothing-nada, never-nunca, no-no)

the same words work in Russian as well (nichego, nikogda, nyet), but not in Hebrew or Arabic ;)

  • why can't they bring this stuff back???

  • clap 3 times...s pin around and say the name of the person you want to be with? forever...post this on 7 pages and this saturday that person will suddely relize how much you mean to them... you dont do this... that person will think the oppiste and never want to see you again... it worked for mee! just tryy it!

  • 80s MTV parody...love it!...that's just how it used to be too.

  • I still sing N-n-n-no. People look at me as if I'm half cocked.

  • The blue guy that Grover always serves is in the pizza restaurant...

  • Hope Grover wasn't working there that night!

  • The blue guy doesn't even look like Grover's customer.

  • "Our next video is truly on the cutting edge of what's happening, in the world of letter N."

Most brilliant MTV parody ever. The voice actress' performance in this sketch was *inspired*.

  • Don't you mean... N-spired?

  • "Its only 12 years that you've been alive"

omg I knew this skit existed but I could only remember the ne ne ne part of it, had no idea what it was about. Thanks@!

  • This song is like 100 different kinds of bad ass!!!

  • I think this was from 1986.

  • This song is sick!

  • He meant "sick" in a good way.

  • Nick Normal and the Nickmatics should have played at CBGB's :p!! They totally sound like one of those new wave groups who got their start at the club (Talking Heads, Blondie, etc.) Then again maybe the Old Grey Whistle Test might've been more their thing since "The Letter N" bears quite a striking resemblance to The Police IMHO.

  • Great parody on MTV i think its when MTV its Heyday (1981-1992)

  • there were lots of songs that had a work out view to them, but when i was a kid, they seemed to be the best thing to watch.

  • My name starts with N, so naturally I immediately took a liking to this video. However, it's truly a classic and one of my favourite Sesame Street songs, N name or not.

I loved the Sesame Street songs about letters. Does anyone know what happened to that thing with Sherlock Hemlock singing about X? It was here a while ago, but not anymore...

  • You can find that on the Web Video Player.

  • A sign of the times.

  • I remember NTV, which is a parody of MTV. Too bad MTV just isn't what it's supposed to be.

  • yessssssssssssssss!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! oh i was hoping it woudl be on the youtube! this is my favorite sesame street letter sponsor :d. i grew up in the late 80s and i hadnt seen this since i was like 5. so its so greattttttt!!!!!!! thank youuuuu!

  • :) one of my favorite sesame street songs. i especially like the n-n-n-no verse.

  • That Nick Normal was a n n n natural. The song itself was n n n nifty.

  • n n n Nice Puns! XD

  • man, such great memories.

  • Pure Awesome.

  • Is it just my imagination or does the intro sound kind of like Pour some sugar on me by Def Leppard.

  • OMG thank you so much for this. I still sing this song in my head from time to time.

  • Nick Normal looks older then 12 years more like 14 or 15 years old.

  • If you look closely you can see the puppeteers arms for the Guitarist and Keyboardist.

  • I think this was like 1986 or '87.

  • It's actually 1984.

  • Ahhh, the year of Mary Lou Retton:D.

  • Is it just me or weren't the Nickmatics supposed to sing the N-N-N parts?

  • One thing to add for this.Thank god this copy did N-N-N-NOT come off N-N-N-Noggin.

  • I think I remember seeing this in the 90s.. yup, I sure do! The ending is so familiar! So, they did keep most of their sketches. Even the little kids I know today say they still play the pinball song and other greats. So...

I'm sure they keep all or most of their sketches.

  • I love Nick Nomarl. He looks pretty cute at the age 12 well i'm only 14. Thanks for posting 5 stars.

  • I'm having loading problems with this video.Anyone else?

  • Never mind it's working fine now.

  • i love that the rocker kid is only 12 yrs old. haha thats Neat ;)

  • I remember this on Classic Sesame Street. I knew that it had to do what the letter "N." Haven't seen it in a very long time.

I like how it's an 80s MTV spoof from Sesame Street.

  • Now it's stuff like this that made Sesame Street edgy and great in the 1980's! I really wish they could go back to Muppet parody versions of celebrities singing muppet parodies of their songs... and not the real James Blunt and stuff like that (though the REM one was great!)

  • not for nothin' but was that one of the Fay the dog episodes at the very end? if so, i'd like to see a few of them posted on here.

  • I love how scared Nick sounds when the giant purple N shows up at the end lol.BTW,are Nick Normal and the Nickmatics supposed to be like a parody of the Goo Goo Dolls or any other Punk and New Wave band?

  • I wish I could make up a music video of that (mp3 version with clips from any cartoon/video game/anime I like)! I love it!

  • I've seen lots of people on Youtube do that.Maybe you could ask them how they do it.

  • Sure!

  • Like what songs do you like?

  • This video always freaked me out, I loved the song but at the end it was like the giant letter N was finally coming to finish them off after toying with them the whole time XoD

  • Really? That's actually my favorite part. That giant purple N was cool IMO.

  • LOL I thought it was cool too, just kinda freaky. I always felt bad for the puppets cause it seemed like it was coming to kill them or something haha! That and the fact that the music goes all trippy at the end; it sounds all forboding and evil :P

  • Lol,that's nothing compared to splashing paint that eventually gets on the camera lens.

  • Going out on a limb here, but methinks the voice of Nick Normal is Jerry Nelson.

  • Yep,that's Jerry Nelson doing his.

  • omg thank you thank you! I have been looking for this forever!!! thanks sooo much :)

  • Isn't Nora Nicks supposed to be a parody of another female MTV music video host?I haven't watched MTV ever since they cancled Wonder Showzen and Andy Millanokis and stopped airing reruns of Beavis and Butthead. That's why I'm asking.

  • That song was so n-n-n-Nasty!!

  • Why would you say it's nasty?

  • Beacause of the three negative words of Nothing, Never & No.

  • Well I actually asked alot of users if they had this particular sketch and the answer was always no.

  • This Is A Cool 80s Sesame Street Music Video. It's NNN NN Nice It Begins with an N NNN NN Nice There it Goes Again NNN NN NN Nice Again And Again The Letter N.

  • I remember this one now! Great song, but I think all those "n-words" is the reason it was taken off...

  • Actually I don't think it was that reason.I think it was because of the changes in 1998 when Elmo's World came on.One of the changes were retiring alot of 80's material, hencing this for instance.

  • That's right, just like what happened to the circles rap skit, "Not With Litter" (you know that one, folks), Faces rap, and much more classics.

  • Ahh...rememeber this one. Often sing this one despite not seeing it for well over a decade.

  • Yeah,I still remember the funky music after not seeing it since "Elmo's World".So great to see this again.

  • "The Letter N" starring Nick Normal and the Nickmatics on NTV. Wow, when I saw this when I was a kid, I was totally gripped by it. I thought it was extremely hot, rocking, awesome and funky. I still think it is today, and I love those electric guitar licks at the start!

  • Never seen this, but very clever and funny! Funky, too!

  • Goof:Anybody notice that black screen with the flashing N dissapears right after the line "No kid no,you're not old enough to drive!" dissapears?

  • That was intended so that the ginormous N would descend near the very end of the song.

  • Wait, what? Sorry, I don't really follow what you're saying...

  • Well it's very similar to The Beetles hit "Thinking of U". You noticed that through 3/4 of the song they had a small shiny u showing, but near the end of the song they had a humongous u coming down. It's pretty much the same thing with Nick Normal's music video.

  • True, but the only time an "N" is shown in the video is at the end.

  • BTW,did they do a special microphone effect on some of Nicks singing?Cause on some lines it sounds like there is another person with his voice singing along with him.

  • This song is so catchy, I wish I should have that video on my video iPod (although I don't have "no" video iPod as of yet......)!

    Anyways, thanks!!!! ^_^

  • Awesome Nick video! I had forgotten about this one but it sure brought back fun memories. :-)

  • Wow...brings me back to when Ntv actually played videos!

  • Who performed Nora Nicks? Fran Brill? Sounds like Fran Brill's voice talents to me.

  • Yes that was Fran Brill. You can tell cause she sounds a little like Arlene Frantic.

  • I remember this!!! It was on all time. Aw it warms my heart right now. :)

    "I think it's niiice."

"Where's the pizza? Where's the root beer?"

"No, kid, no you're not old enough to drive!"

    "Nothing! Never! No! N!"

Is he stuck in the N-Twilight Zone or something?

  • YES!!!!Thank you so much man!I haven't seen this in YEARS!Don't ever remove it!It's my ALL TIME favorite Sesame Street song!

  • I agree! I do N-N-N-NOT want this video gone!

  • What's "Nick Normal and the Nickmatics" a parody of? I know NTV parodizes MTV.

  • The black and white footage, the bass riff to the verses, along with the first person lyrics, lead me to think that Joan Jett's "I Love Rock and Roll" was part of the inspiration.

  • Too bad NTV was already used for a station in Newfoundland...

  • and it's the main TV station in Russia (НТВ = NTV)

  • N-n-n-not half bad!

  • Thanks for posting this clip.
