The judicial and correctional systems in this country need to be completely revamped. The way we are waging the war on drugs is completely absurd and detrimental. Sending someone to jail for being an addict is completely counter-intuitive and will result only in recidivism. Our corrections facilities are not rehabilitative at all, or even correctional--they are training grounds for future criminals and create an environment that is irreconcilable with a healthy lifestyle once released.

Yes, we need to be concerned with good fiscal management and not spend money where it does not need to be spent--I would particularly be concerned with the military portion of the budget here, as I know billions and billions of dollars go to waste here, and nobody knows where the money goes, while soldiers are on the ground with insufficient materials, and get back home with insufficient support from the VA. There's a lot that can be cut here, and a lot to be gained with proper reinvestment.
I have believe education has been on the back for years as compared to foreign affairs, business, and taxes. Barely any politician speaks about higher education in their platform or bring any hope for tackling the problem with education. It is a big subject but just in my case, colleges higher tuition and lower federal assistance. Postponement of classes due to lack of funds to pay off the current semester. I am a student in Indiana, and I think that education is a huge priority in the budget. The school I go to has one of the highest test grades for a public school in the state, but we also have an extremely low budget.

We always claim America is the greatest country in the world, well its time for us to start making that true because when you look at the numbers I can name quite a few countries that are way ahead of us on all points! The measure of a nation should not be how powerful our military is or how wealthy the top 5% are, but in the way we take care of and advance our citizens with stable lives and open possibilities!
I want to be able to walk into a hospital where they don't turn a single one of my countrymen or their children away from care they may need to survive!
virtually what I want to see 10 years from now, is an energy independent America based on alternative energy, not drilling the f*ck out our country for OIL and ruining our environment or the eco-system! I want to see the sons and daughter of janitors, waitresses, farmers, and all those who keep this country running but aren't fortunate enough to make a high-wage for themselves, attending college and getting the education they need to build a better life and career!

The judicial and correctional systems in this country need to be completely revamped. The way we are waging the war on drugs is completely absurd and detrimental. Sending someone to jail for being an addict is completely counter-intuitive and will result only in recidivism. Our corrections facilities are not rehabilitative at all, or even correctional--they are training grounds for future criminals and create an environment that is irreconcilable with a healthy lifestyle once released.

Not only is a green initiative necessary for saving the world and preserving the human species, it will also be the best way to invest in job creation that will lift us out of these poor economic times. This is heavily tied in with education as well. We need to teach children useful things in their lives--such as how to live a sustainable lifestyle--and encourage students to enter into fields linked to green technologies.

If everyone in the world lived as Americans do, then the world as we know it would be over. Icecaps melted, oceans devoid of all but the most adaptable life, air unfit to breathe. We have to learn to make sacrifices and live in ways that are consistent with a world picture of bringing everyone up to our level. Cutting energy consumption, shutting down coal plants, investing heavily in renewable energy, quadrupling MPG requirements, building nuclear plants, etc. are all necessary for our survival

Perhaps the most important thing of all should be a green energy initiative. If we don't take drastic action now, it will be too late. The world as we know it will be over, and the kind of lives we are living now are completely unsustainable. We need huge initiatives to encourage the development of alternative energy and to make tremendous life style changes. Americans for some reason believe we are entitled to live in a way that would be impossible for any one else in the world to live.

Everyone who wants to go to college should be able to go to college.
No company should be too big to fail. The government is the only entity in a nation that should be too big to fail--and even then the government should be as small as it can be in order to do the many things required of it.
The stock market needs to be heavily monitored and regulated. As John Stewart has said "It's not a fucking game." Short-selling and other abuses should be illegal.

But that is not the biggest priority for me. Education is a huge priority. We need big time reform of the public education system, and I know that the federal government has less to do with that than the state governments do, but I think it should be a big priority. Everyone should be brought to a point where they can succeed. We're forcing countless (largely poor) children into lives that are demeaning and unfulfilling. We can do better and we must do better.

Yes, we need to be concerned with good fiscal management and not spend money where it does not need to be spent--I would particularly be concerned with the military portion of the budget here, as I know billions and billions of dollars go to waste here, and nobody knows where the money goes, while soldiers are on the ground with insufficient materials, and get back home with insufficient support from the VA. There's a lot that can be cut here, and a lot to be gained with proper reinvestment.

I have believe education has been on the back for years as compared to foreign affairs, business, and taxes. Barely any politician speaks about higher education in their platform or bring any hope for tackling the problem with education. It is a big subject but just in my case, colleges higher tuition and lower federal assistance. Postponement of classes due to lack of funds to pay off the current semester. Also, there's more I just can't fit it all here. Education.

I am a student in Indiana, and I think that education is a huge priority in the budget. The school I go to has one of the highest test grades for a public school in the state, but we also have an extremely low budget.

Companies that are too big to fail only proves they have a monopoly and that the government is helping them remain so. I guess anti-trust only matters if you're not fattening the pockets of politicians.
We need to remove any legislation that enables these companes so that they can be broken down into manageable pieces that allows competition and a true free-enterprise market to exist.

Why would I want my family to pay most of the taxes? Middle-class is very misleading. My family is middle class, but they can barely afford to send my brother and I to state colleges! Tax the rich, the affluent, the ones who have extra money to throw around, not those struggling.

We need to reinstitute trade tariffs, use the Sherman Anti-Trust Act to break up the Big 3 Auto companies into the little 24. Break up the Big Banks. Nationalize the Federal Reserve as a part of the Treasury Department. Pass a constitutional amendment that adds the words ", print paper money, electronic money, and all other forms of currency" after "Congress has the power to coin money". You guys figure out the exact wording, I'm just a computer programmer, not a constitutional lawyer.

i'd like to see advances in more affordable energy, and someone else mentioned jobs-which i'm not too certain the govt has so much control over anyways-not without spening oodles of tax payers money, which is a diminishing cycle.. very nasty-tax reform that doesn't kill the middle class-which is largely working single mothers, but also doesn't scare away all our companies to china, which is where the jobs are going.

- Huge increases in funding for alternative energy (wind/solar/geothermal) for both grid production and automobiles/mass
transit
- Un-watered down Cap & Trade system to spur the increase in businesses using clean energy. Any money they spend to convert to solar/wind will be made back when other companies that don't convert have to pay them to use their credits.

How about ending the 2 illegal wars and closing the 700 bases in 130 countries we have going? That would be a nice start. Even if you don't care about all the people we are killing, at least we can save money not doing it. Then we can end the war on drugs and save billions more and we can start growing hemp and saving forests and making biodiesel without damaging the topsoil. What does Ryan here, take us for? As far as education, think. 1951 we were the smartest nation in the world with Russia in a distant 2nd place. As of 2001 we ranked in 26th in youth education, & that's only IF your kids could count that high.
Get rid of the Dept of Education.
$500 Billion (& climbing) have been spent fighting the war on drugs, and sending non-violent drug users to 10+ prison terms.
While at the same time, the USA could be making $77 billion in tax revenues.
