Its not FAKE....they are really there, really doing the shit, its just set up to be able to present it as a show for television...it would be pretty boring if it was just Bear in the middle of nowhere surviving, therefore they create the worst case scenarios because it teaches and also makes good entertainment. Someone stranded would probably not come across all the issues Bear deals with, therefore they have to make the situations to show how to deal with them.
