  • The problem with these videos is that most of the viewers are actually heavy gamers so the video will always get negative ratings

  • looks like a pedo addicted to children lol

  • FUCK ALL OF YOU PACIFISTS!!!!!! THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS VIDEO GAME ADDICTION!!!!!!!!! ALL STUDIES HAVE NOT EVEN BEEN RELIABLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • addiction is only real if ur view thinks it is addiction is ur view scocietys view and is just pure bullshit my view is if it makes me happy ill play them for the rest of my life cause it makes me happy addiction is an ugly word tossed around from total uptight faggots like the guy in this video i call it happyness to do what u like whenever or however long you wanna do it so fuck off and go preach to ur own people cause WE dont respect you if YOU dont respect are views

  • It's not just kids anymore.

  • 1 out of 12?

huh? those don't seem like liable numbers to make a direct statement.

We can get a larger percentage from kids who like candy.

  • Shut up of nut up! Video games prepare us to kill zombies and shit plus GTA i have to say prostitutes are bad they dont pay taxes so technicly its ok

  • Woah, woah, woah wait....

Did I hear "addiction"? "Video game addiction"?

Does that mean some people vomit , shake and/or can't sleep when they cannot play video games?

  • I have shook once, :| lmao

  • its not reconized as a disorder cause its not and why don`t you people stop bothering compaines when they make voilent games get a life

  • His words are true, video games can be/are addicting, but you just need to control them. He's not saying that you shouldn't play video games, but the factor is that some kids can't control playing video games and let their lives take over it. Video games aren't something that you shouldn't play but play as a stress reliever. I believe video games are just another tool for kids or adults to relax themselves but don't fall in to addiction or mannerism; or else yo gonna be a lazy fool

  • There are four criteria for labeling a behavior as diseased: Unjustifiable, Maladaptive, Atypical, and Disturbing. Although, arguably, an excess of video games could be considered justifiable, it is certainly maladaptive and rather atypical, and parents at least are disturbed by it. That's three out of four.

As for 'blame bad parenting', maybe we need something like this video to remind parents that games can corrupt.

  • Is this vid serious? I mean it's only 2 min long so at first I thought it was a viral vid but... no punch line ever came. wtf!

  • Throughout my 13 years of video game playing, (im 15 years old and male), that my parents, and other parents, hate when I or their children play games for more than an hour. This is most prevalent in mothers. Mothers because apparently they like our company and like to talk a hell of a lot to us. Fathers don't care as much but it is still enough to annoy me. I have noticed that this is seen more in parents older than 40 because they dont understand the concept of having fun games to play.

  • i play them alot on psp

  • PSP sucks ass.

  • "Many people are also "addicted" to movies, so are the movies to blame? If a person is letting video games consume their life, all they need to do is adjust their adjust their lifestyle. Since this is happening on such a wide scale among children, the responsibility would be delegated to the parents, who's role is all to often neglected by people like you who try to make our hobby look like the anti christ."

    -Tehfear

This organization is a excuse for lazy parenting, in my opinion. NIOHF...

  • heres a cool fact

studies show the same part of your brain that u learn with goes crazy when u play video games and sports its causes a shot of adreanelin to perk u up same happens when u do heroin and get angry as well as having sex heard that in a lecture at portland university in Oregon about 3 years ago kinda cool i think

  • look its bull who cares mind your own business its all the parents charge to take controle of it and y waiste time on this their nothing wrong with it theirs ppl dying of hunger and drugs destroying our youth. and it dont matter about censorship sooner or later it is going to b seen its not like their kill someone because of the game and if they do kill its not cause of the game its because something is wrong with them them in the end parents are to blame not games

  • Look people, this isn't rubbish. He's making a claim, backed up by legitimate evidence. It's not like he's Jack Thompson and just blindly attacking video games with ridiculous baseless claims. He honestly doesn't sound like he's against video games at all. He's against "behavioral patterns that would be consistent with an addiction" that are related to video games. I don't think anyone can deny that there are people out there like this.

  • Yes there is a videgame Addiction especially kids today the younger generation talk trash etc. And I blame this on you parents for not doing anything about it...there should bea time limited or hour as to how long you let your kids play these video games And what I'd like to know is what is a 8-15 year doing in a violent Video game? CALL OF DUTY ETC!

  • Actually the only part of that video is about S. Korea. However, they have anywhere between 1 and 3 channels dedicated to Starcraft. People playing it to videos of it. Their olympic stadium was filled up just to watch the Starcraft 2 video that came out a few years back. If you have a country that's so bent on being the best at anything you do and you have these people who are successful gamers then yes you will have people who are throwing their lives away for games.

  • What a load of rubbish

People like you who take things out of context and look for something to blame for bad parenting, then try and make a career out of it, are the problem.

    Go away

  • Continuing my last post.

Researchers will go into these studies expecting to find problems (consciously or not), so they see more than the normal things. The media also tends to cling to any story that may involve video games in a negative light.

I read one news story that said something along the lines of: "A young male shot his dad after they had a fight the previous day. He played Halo 3 earlier."

I can listen to Rock and Roll, but that doesn't mean I'm going to shoot my parents.

  • YOu can be addicted to sports in the same way that you can be addicted to gaming. You see some people freak out and scream at the TV, stuff like that. But I don't think there is such thing as a 'sports addict'. VIdeo Games are just new and strange. In the same way that Rock and Roll was.

The public will always have some 'freakout moment'. We have freaked out at Rock and Roll, Dungeous and Dragons, Batman and Robin (we thought they were a gay couple), and the list goes on.

  • I'm currently going to medical school, and I play videogames all the time. Do you have any medical marijuana to calm my addiction Doc??

  • This is idiotic. The reason why it's not officially recognized as any official disorder is because it isn't one. Just like some people love books and movies. You can get your life taken over by playing Tennis and loving tennis so much. Is there a problem with that too? Should we stop them from playing tennis? Idiot.

  • Isn't there something wrong when a doctor—using his own words—describes something as, "not an official diagnosis...and it's not officially recognized as a mental disorder", yet is willing to frame the debate as to what's wrong with 'some' of these kids using this officially unrecognized diagnosis!? Hey Doc!? Is there anyway that maybe the parents are to blame for what's wrong with these kids? When I was younger I would lose Nintendo rights if I was caught playing during non-playing hrs.

  • Many people are also "addicted" to movies, so are the movies to blame? If a person is letting video games consume their life, all they need to do is adjust their adjust their lifestyle. Since this is happening on such a wide scale among children, the responsibility would be delegated to the parents, who's role is all to often neglected by people like you who try to make our hobby look like the anti christ.

  • The logical continuation of today's video game stigmatization and fear mongering. "Addiction" carries a very negative connotation and with it, you are trying to align video games with substance abuse.

  • There are some children that have behavioral problems and video games. Just as there are some children that have epileptic problems with them. But you cannot just put a sticker on and brand the entire group.

If there is an addiction, it would be of the mental kind, which is a far less damaging than a physical addiction (related to drugs). I have yet to see a unbiased report of video game-related behavior that doesn't favor any group.

  • It looks like you have a reading addiction, Doc. Enjoy using arbitrary figures to rationalize an inept way of approaching a problem.

Fight the disorder, not the symptom.

  • @greycolumbus: Hear, hear!

  • Compulsive behavior isn't addiction. Compulsive gaming is a problem, just like compulsive anything. Yet that's not an issue with the activity, but the person and the choices made to fulfill their compulsions. To then go a step further, and claim children are addicted, when consequence, a key aspect, is such a foreign concept to children... Seriously, how can you live with yourself knowing that you're nothing more than a shill for a pro-censorship organization, and not a very good shill either.

  • Your data is flawed. There is no absolute proof, just numbers and others that are speculating just like you.

Why is this video game addiction and not television addiction? Because you are biased. There is no reason to believe that you are credible in this study.

  • When are you gonna to stop this?

Your study was wrong. It can´t even be taken as "serious study" because the data were wrong from the start.

Claiming that "With this additional research, the medical community can make an educated decision on video games and addiction (as Walsh stated recently)", it´s a complete lie.

This is a waste of time and you are not helping nobody.

  • It seems as though all the fault regarding video game "addiction" lies on the player, and more often than not the player is a kid (the older players have made their choices to play at differing frequencies). A kid without proper knowledge of what is harmful or not when that should be taught to them by their PARENTS. Children or the video game industry should not be at fault where the parents should be.

As earlier stated, I have yet to see actual proof of video game addiction, but I'm all ears.

  • It will most definitely be interesting to see more "proof", if I may, of video game addiction. Although intrigued, I still have yet to find anything consistent or even plausible.

  • You know this is a load of hogwash, don't you? Everybody will soon see through your group's deceptive fear mongering tactics.

Please take a word from The Word... "Leviticus 19:35 -Do not use dishonest standards when measuring length, weight or quantity." Remember that next time your group releases a study with obivously flawed numbers to try to decieve the non-gaming public.
