This song and movie were amazing, the Stand By Me was the first and only movie to make me actually cry. Sucks that the one kid (forgot his name) who stole the milk money, he died of drug overdose.

You need to soften your voice just a little. Listen to yourself over and over in recordings and discover that the verbrato is a little strong and you could soften when you think of your loved ones. The passion and feeling is there, just translate it into sound. You can do it, we already feel it. Thanks for your recording.

You already have got it mate, you just have to refine it. Most singers say that will take you 10 years or more of practice. Just make sure you have fun while you're practicing. And also, your family is also having fun.
