  • does nick cannon know how lucky he is? dawg gonnit she's fine.

  • Mariah sings nice, but this song.....no ma'am. Cherelle the original singer owns this song.....

  • i loved glitter

  • Mariah has something not a lot of artists have. She has songs that FIT EVERYONE. If you dont like RnB or Hip Hop Mariah has songs for you, not everyone likes Mariah (so-to-say) but EVERYONE has thier favorite MC song. She fits everyone.

    I LOVE YOU MC!!

  • I love the way she sings it but the track is really loud and by the end it gets worse.

  • who eva uploaded dis peice of shit .....u suck sum kind of dick....she not even singing da song dat she iz in da video...dumb ass

  • @lilmamabomb its supossed to be like that dumb dip shit

  • @TheSamy10101 welll bitch......the fucking video sucks....cant blame miii for that......stupid peice if shit

  • LOVE MARIAH CAREY!! NO ONE CAN TAKE HER PLACE! xD

  • Love it!

  • GORGEOUS MARIAH!!!!!

  • WHO EVER MENTIONS BEYONCE.LADY GAGA AND MARIAH ON MARIAH CAREYHS VIDEOS SHOULD GET SHOT OR SENT TO A MENTAL INSTITUION BECAUSE MARIAH IS A LEGEND IN HISTORY SHES LIKE A FEMALE MICHEAL JACKSONBUT WITHOUT THE DANCE MOVES...SHE HAS THE GRAMMYS, 8 OCTAVE VOCALS , AWARDS ,TIME, AND GUINESS WORLD RECORDS TO PROVE IT ..AND LADY GAGA, BEYONCE, OR RIHANNA DONT HAVE THOSE THINGS AND PROBABLY NEVER WILL MARIAH IS AN ICON WHO HAS REINVENTED HER SELF COUNTLESS TIMES SHES BEEN AROUND SINCE THE 80'S AND 90'S

  • @JOHNNY1EL1TIGRE could not agree more : D

  • @JOHNNY1EL1TIGRE excuse beyonce has 16 grammys is from the most succesfull girl group of all time and is a legend she has been in the game 15 years and is still relevent and im sorry i love mariah but she is not a female micheal jackson michel was most known for being a performer and entertainer not vocalist thats mariah's lane these two ladies are really uncomparable simply because one is known for being an outstanding vocalist (mariah)while the other is known for being an amazing performer

  • @popeyestastgood Sorry Beyonce isnt from the most succesful girl band ever, i think you will find that title still belongs to the Spice Girls.

  • @Stuartkelsall ok i've heard other wise either way she is from one of the most succesfull girl groups but that has nothing to do with my point ..my point was people shouldn't try to bring beyonce and lady gaga down because they are very succesful aswell i mean to me its like when people diss janet in order to compliment madonna it's not right and it's very childish

  • Respond to this video... and by the way beyonce is on her way to an iconic status and as far as lady gaga goes she is making her own mark in the industry and will go down in history as well

  • @JOHNNY1EL1TIGRE I totally agree. She is a fucking legend and there is no other artist like her.

  • @JOHNNY1EL1TIGRE I love Mariah man but you really should check your facts. Mariah has a five, not eight, octave range. Her first album was released in1990, she didn't have any records in the 80s. Ri, Gaga and Bey have one loads of awards but in terms of Grammy's, Gaga has 3, Rihanna 4 and Beyonce 16. Mariah has only 5 and she's been at it for 21 years whereas Gaga's only been around for about 3. Obviously Mariah's the best, but some of your facts are just wrong

  • mariah carey is still beautifull but this is not really her song this is a lady name charelle or sharelle song she made it over for this movie

  • @ASHbunni23

she made a bunch of 80s covers for the soundtrack to Glitter, as the film was set in the 80s.

  • Back when Mariah Carey was sexy.

  • Through all the debate, I hope that everybody can agree that this song is a classic. Cherelle will always be remembered for being the first. Robert Palmer brought a whole different kind of vibe to it just by the virtue of being a male singer, and by being an especially gifted vocalist at that. This version is credible due to Mariah's incomparable vocal ability. All of them added something to the song rather than detracting from the others' work, and that is something special in itself.

  • I love her ! no one can ever come close to this biatch ! ;)

  • I guess I'll be called a hater , but I hope after the babies come she'll start dressing down a bit. She's beautiful , talented and doen't need to flash and dash . She's already has IT.....

  • @cherrrianna go comment on lady gaga or beyonce or even rihiana, mariah wears whatever the hell she wants to wear!!

  • Original is better, but this is okay.

  • bomba....bomba...bomba!!!!

    cant stop Dancing dude.......Yeeeee

  • Hey Mariah Carey, Prince called, he wants his Purple Rain keyboards back.

  • @gears2boomshield The reason the synth track is so familiar to you is that it's taken directly from the original Cherrelle recording. It reminds you of Prince because it's written and produced by Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis who were in Purple Rain as members of The Time.

  • @emmettk I have heard this by Robert Palmer.

  • Mariah is black and white

  • Sorry Cherelle is better,but + i love u Marriah

  • @generic53, my friend you did nothing of the sort, you proved how much you lack knowledge when it comes to music, especailly R&B.

One quick question: who founded rock 'n' roll?

One hint: It damn sure wasn't Elvis.

  • @loujencece .....Again, as I suspected, you are just a simpleton RACIST, trying to bait me into saying that rock 'n roll was begun by anyone other than blacks. You LOSE.

  • @generic53, my friend you did nothing of the sort, you proved how much you lack knowledge when it comes to music, especailly R&B.

  • @loujencece .....We weren't discussing "knoweldge of music." We were discussing the FACT that Palmer was a VERY talented musician and song stylist. You are EMBARRASSING yourself by continuing to deny that, and the FACT that KC and the AWB were DISCO bands and NSync was a POP group.

  • Man I suggest you go back to whatever suburb you grew up in. Mariah's music started and continues to be tracked on R&B charts firsy and foremost, second the groups that I mentioned with the exception to N'SYNC are all R&B groups from the late 70's & 80's. Before you come at me I suggeat you get ur facts straight. Now as for Mr Palmer, He's a Pop artist who made an attempt to cross over into the R&B side of the house, His music is in my opinion cold, boring and lacks Soul.

  • @loujencece .....I didn't say Mariah's music was obsolete. AGAIN, AWB and KC were DISCO bands, NOT R&B. You were in GRADE SCHOOL when they were popular. MY FACTS ARE straight. YOU don't know what you're talking about. I LIVED it. AGAIN, read Palmer's bio on Wikipedia. You are an IDIOT.

  • @generic53 I lived it as well you fucking idiot. Look I really don't give a rat's ass about Robert Palmer or his music. I've stated my opinions and I've done my research. as I've stated his musc is cold unimaginative and lacks soul.

  • @loujencece .....You didn't live it. You weren't even a teenager, yet (I SAW your bio). You are IGNORANT. You DIDN'T "do your research" or you wouldn't make such MORONIC, UNSUBSTANTIATED comments about Palmer. But some people can never admit they are WRONG.

  • Why is the lip movement out of sync???

And, Robert Palmer's version OWNS the others.

  • @generic53 Huh?! In what world?! I suggest you look at who originally did this song. her name was Cherelle. and she blasted both of them off of the map!

  • @loujencece .....I LISTENED to the original and another redo on this site BEFORE I made my INFORMED comment. Palmer MADE this song. The other versions SUCK.

  • @generic53 opinions vary, first of all this song was an R&B song before rober palmer got his filthy uncreative hands on it. Cherelle helped build the Minnesota sound the best kept secret in music. You want a hit you pay a visit to either Pasley Park or Flyte Time Studios.

  • @loujencece.... I never said it wasn't a Palmer remake. I SAID, Palmer made this song MUCH better. "Filthy uncreative hands???" Can't stand a white person messin' wif with no black music, huh? MORON. You should read Palmer's bio on Wikipedia before you open your UNeducated mouth.

  • @generic53 Only if they fuck it up. Mariah did a much better job than Mr Palmer. She has the one thing that Mr palmer lacks in most of his music......S.O.U.L. and believe me when I say I've heard plenty of "non" Black folks who have soul, case in point: Average White Band - Pick Up The Pieces, KC & the Sunshine Band, N'Sync. and that's just off the top of my head.

  • @loujencece ....Palmer made it BETTER. In what manner did he "F it up??" Mariah isn't a "soul" singer, IDIOT. She's POP. AWB and KC were DISCO bands. NSync were POP.

  • @generic53 I really don't have time to argue with you. I have a life and a pretty good one at that.

you like what you like and I like what I like. May it be well with you

  • @loujencece .....Glad I could SCHOOL you.

  • @generic53......playin the race card huh? okay since you went there. Mariah is Bi-racial, what's the difference between the way Cherelle and Mariah's performed the song compared to Robert? the answer is simple: both women had a little something called soul. Mr palmer's version lacked that main ingredient. Soul has nothing to do with race. It's called soul because the artist's music comes from within. Palmer's version was cold and lacked creativity.

  • @loujencece ....I'm not "playing the race card." YOU are the one that referenced that "HITS" come only from Paisley Park studios (Prince) and Flyte Time, both BLACK studios. Mariah is "bi-racial" like everyone calls obama BLACK (even though HE'S half white). Songs are re-recorded all the time by artists that "make it their own." BLACKS do it, too. A song doesn't have to retain it's original construct. It's called, CREATIVITY. "Soul" most certainly DOES have to do with RACE...Cont.

  • @generic53 .....Cont........"Soul" music came from BLACKS and any idiot equates Soul music with BLACK singers. Sure, there are a few whites that are associated with Soul.....Teena Marie, Hall and Oates, Simply Red, etc. Palmer's version was NOT "cold and lacking creativity." AGAIN, go to Wikipedia's webite and READ about Palmer's contributions to music, you DUNCE.

  • @generic53 Wikipedia has so many inconsistancies that it is un real. if all you have for a reference is wiki then you really don't know anything about music.

  • @loujencece .....Wikipedia is a good starting reference. Take what you read about Palmer THERE and Google it. You'll EASILY substantiate the Wikipedia info about Palmer.

  • @generic53 Oh and last but not least the essence of soul is the fact that whoever listens to your music will feel it within not just hear it and maybe like it. second soul comes from either growing up in that kind of environment (not the suburbs) The Hood, the ghetto or whatever you want to call it. THAT is the essence of soul.

I give Palmer credit for his attempt at remaking this song but to me and most folks that grew up in that kind of environment it wasn't all that.

  • @loujencece .....You don't have to tell ME the genesis of soul music. Your statement isn't entirely true. Much the same is said about the beginnings of BLUES but, in example, Stevie Ray Vaughan is REVERED for his soulful blues and blues/rock, YET, HE grew up in the SUBURBS.

Oh, so now you're the mouthpiece for "most folks that grew up in the hood" that Palmer's version "wasn't all that??" Post your SOURCE that substantiates your "CLAIM." And btw, the people you refer to....CONT>

  • @generic53 .....are BLACK and aren't generally predisposed to preferring a WHITE artist over a BLACK artist in a genre they claim as their own, no matter HOW good that WHITE artist is.

  • @generic53 What do you mean? I'm Black and I'd choose a White artist over a Black artist any day. It's just people's preferences.

  • @Tammie082 .....As I said, "....aren't GENERALLY predisposed..."

  • @generic53 What the heck is "predisposed"?

  • @Tammie082 ......From Websters dictionary, "To give an inclination or tendency to beforehand."

  • @generic53 Before you go shotgun blasting folks I strongly suggest you do a little research on what Funk & Soul acctually mean to music. and believe me when I tell you there's no color barrier there. Just ask groups like Average White Band, KC & the sunshine Band or N'Sync none of these guys are black but they all grasped a little concept called soul.

  • @loujencece ......I didn't "shotgun blast" ANYONE. I DEFENDED Palmer as YOU ATTACKED his credibility and TALENT without knowing what you are talking about. I made NO dispersions of funk and soul music. I didn't SAY there "was a color barrier there." Just that it's ASSOCIATED more with BLACK artists. AGAIN, AWB and KC were DISCO bands. NSync was POP. YOU do "a little research."

  • U R FUCKING STUPID IF U THINK THIS IS BETTER THEN THE ORIGINAL

IM 18 YEARS OLD SO IM YOUNG HIP OR WUT EVER N I KNOW

i would not lie Cherr 's is SO MUCH BETTER COME ON NOW DONT B

    STUPID

  • honestly Cherelle's version sucks. I love Mariahs version..Funky, Firty and Sexy.....

  • @lexylulu88

    WTF

  • @Sayamitsu wtf WHAT?! YEAH U DEFINITELY ACT UR AGE. MS. 18 YEARS OLD...ITS A MATTER OF OPINION. I DONT LIKE CHERELLE VERSION...THE ONLY STUPID ONE IS YOU IF U CANT RESPECT OTHER PEOPLES OPINIONS. SOME PEOPLE WILL LIKE CHERELLE'S, ROBERT PALMER'S OR MARIAHS. I AND MANY OTHERS HAPPEN TO LIKE MARIAHS MORE. GROW UP AND QUIT BEING AN INTERNET TROLL.

  • hey the guy in colored girls is in this vedio the one who was carzy lol

  • Cherrelles version>>>>Mariahs, Robert Palmers and anyone elses.

  • for her movie glitter hee hee^^ i liked that movie !

  • everyone keeps saying Mariah killed this one, but I'm sorry if you want to take someone else's song at least put some of your flavor in it (beside's the dog whistle)! This sounds like a cover! I love Mariah, but she could have had so much fun with this song!

  • You can't beat the original, sorry!

  • sorry, maraiah, nothing comes close to cherrelle's version

  • Mannnnnnnn, Mariah KILLED IT on this one. This is wayyyyy better than the 80's Cherelle version.

  • Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis rocked the FUCK outta this song. Do you hear those synths? Love it..... Much respect to Robert Palmer, but this is a respectable remake.

  • I didn't know Mariah remade this. Cherrelle, Robert Palmer, or Mariah, which do you like best?

  • Str8 80's But What year Did This Come Out In & I Know It Wasn't On Any Album Was It ????

  • @sj4 it came out the year of the movie glitter its on the glitter soundtrack

  • @sj4 If you're talking about the original version, R&B singer Cherrelle sang it for her 1984 record "Fragile" (Tabu Records).

  • @sj4 yes it was, I believe it was Cherelle's first album

  • Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis are gods!!!!

  • this is the best vid for didnt mean to turn you on this is the only one i go to

  • A Cherrelle classic! Robert Palmer remade it and made it a #1 pop record. But MARIAH TAKES THEM BOTH OUT THE GAME, SORRY..hehehe

  • One of my Fav tracks from the soundtrack, so nostalgic :)

  • It was better when Cherelle & then Robert Palmer sung this tune.

  • @Andrew4511 Mariah sings better than the both of them do actually but the original version is always better.

  • song sounds great

  • i love this woman soooooo much, and this is a huge smash that got away, but with this mash up video, cud be launched with the story it tells and how modern it could be, this is a potential huge summer smash. good combination with the vid there matey.

  • i like your video and the song. i like the style

  • love this song mariah is amazing :)

  • love version mama and Robert P's too!! show them.

  • i have all of her songs on my iPod.

    i am her biggest fan

  • @Maddiecutie32 lies i am and forget it

  • I must admit i believe Mariah took out the old version made it sound more flirty and fun

  • @MsMingo32 - I think I may have to agree, but not without a little bit of an internal fight with myself.

  • I prefer this version. Mariah actually has vocal talent and makes the song fun and sexy at the same time.

  • i like the original version better. but dnt get me wrong i LOVE mariah carey but the first version is better

  • Yah, i have most of her albums except for a few, but i dont want to buy them yet. I like to buy like 2 or 3 of her old albums a year, so i wont run out of mariah to listen to.

  • Wow, what album is this from? I think ill go and buy it. Big Mariah fan!

  • Wow, you're a big Mariah fan and you didn't know this song was from her movie Glitter? That album is awesome.

  • no! the album you need to buy from mariah carey is "The Emancipation Of Mimi" its her best

  • OOO, I have emancipation already. In my opinion, hats off to her newest album "memoirs of an imperfect angel" and "butterfly" of course. Cant forget "music box" also.

  • memoirs sucks and this is from a big MC fan!

its overly produced and her vocals just don't soar!

and its boring but i do admit to liking obsessed and it's a wrap.

i gave everysone millions of chances to like but i didnt like them. on the emanipation of mimi, she has amazing tracks like It's like that,Shake it off,Stay the night,Say somethin, we belong together, don't forget about us(on remix album) and i can go on and on. mimis not what she use to be and i hope she goes back to how she was b4!

  • @JulianDaniEmilyShow I agree with you Jermaine Dupree remade her music!!! He sucked with Janet's. Mariah can sing but she needs to stop posing and sing the coy girl is too old to sell cheap. Time to be a lady mariah !! I know she can do it!

  • @JulianDaniEmilyShow I kno this mesage was ancient, but i have to reply. I do agree with you about "Emancipation", fantastic album. But "Memoirs" is still a good album, I lov everything that Mariah does. When I first listend to the album, I honestly hated it, but it grew on me in a major way. The sound was simply new to my ears. And i love old Mariah too, Music box, Butterfly, and Daydream are timeless.

  • @MrDpsimons28 i see your point of view,if you were a mariah fan like me and you ovcorce it grew on you because your in a way kinda desperate to like it because u wana hear more mariah you know? yea it grew on me, but i didnt see past her lazy singing and auto tuning and that sucky producer the dream. THANK god! shes in the studio with the producers of emancipation of mimi and it will release a new album in late 2010 or early 2011. her and JLO are on the same lable now. i think mimi can beat her

  • @JulianDaniEmilyShow Yah, I cant wait for those two albums also. I really hope hat her next album isn't redundant in the same way that some thouht E=MC2 was. (not me though) I am hoping for another song of the decade on this album too. I thought that Mariah had some potential #1's on he last effort but the singles released were soo wack to me. All of the hype was flushed down the drain after there was no OFFICIAL single after obsessed. Go mariah!

  • @MrDpsimons28 AND SHES DOING A NEW CHRISTMAS ALBUM! hello comeback!!

  • plus memoirs did not soar on the billboard charts! the emancipation of mimi was 2005s best selling album

  • Its one of her best, and I think its the best album and the most successful album she released in the 2000's.

  • this song is so beautiful. i wish it was a single.

    just perfect!!!!

  • she is pretty

  • Luv Mariah, but the video and voice are out of sych here!

  • then make ur own then.......

  • i love mariah carey

  • For the Cherrelle fans: Mariah did absolutely NOTHING with the soundtrack from Cherrelle's original recording. It is spliced and diced and plagiarized to the hilt. This is a woman desperate, and I do like Mariah, but I'm wondering, why this now? Are You so drained of ideas that You have nothing to offer but karaoke?

  • all her stuff is written by herself one..2 she probably sampled a song in this..3 this was back in in the early decade (2001) thats like 8 years ago..so if u can prove sufficient evidence that she plagiarized then show me..until then if u have nothing smart to say, dont say it

  • why dont you google this shit, retard? its not written by carey its written and performed by charelle later covered by robert palmer, later covered by mariah.

  • it was written by Jam and Lewis and only performed by Cherelle.

  • i standth corrected. source: discogs com.. however. i dont know why you call it plagiarized... the writers still get all the money from the song. I dont think you understand that the artist gets like 3% of the income from the songs that they don'twrite on their own.. they can cover a song all they like but they're not the ones getting paid. so you should be thankful that mariah and robert palmer covered these songs as it just makes the songwriter richer

  • ....obviously if someone covers a song they really dont care about the money yah douche! ill say i was incorrect about her not covering this, so sure ill give you that, but damn mariah writes every single one of her songs that she makes, with the occasional cover..

  • and the late Robert Palmer

  • this is a cover not sampled or plagiarized

  • Actually, it is a sample and a cover. Jimmy Jam And Terri Lewis wrote & produced both Cherelle's original and hers. and Mariah said In an interview "JJ&TL Gave me that original Track and I sang on top of it" meaning Mariah Just sang over Cherelle's instrumental. So while it isn't plagiarism and is a cover, it is a sample, too

  • She only did the song for the movie Glitter. Thats why she left the background the movie was set in the 80s.

  • well she has been more famous for her own written songs, and not only that this was just for a movie, which was set in the 80s but also it was written by Jam and Lewis who write for Carey anyways and they prob decided to let her do it for the movie as it was an 80s set film and was playing a singer.

  • I LOVE DIS SONG:)

  • i like this style, sounds 80-ish

  • The film was set in the Eighties.

    *Thumbs up*

  • @dromycatcher

thats coz it came from her film glitter, which was set in an 80s theme

  • @dromycatcher it sounds 80-ish because it is.. Cherelle made this first, and the music is pretty much identical. It's as if she erased Cherelles vocals and recorded hers on the original track.

  • @ecflygyrl THANK YOU for recognizing the real artist that made this song big-I like Mariah Carey but she needs to put out her own songs instead of remaking everyone elses-theres at least one remake on everyalbum

  • @dromycatcher That's because nothing much has changed from the original from Cherelle.

  • @dromycatcher lol, thas because it is from the eighties

  • @dromycatcher Its from the Glitter movie which was taking place in the 80's

  • @dromycatcher It was 80's! Robert Palmer was the best dressed man of rock ever & he had hot babes in his vids. It was a fun time to be young.

  • @jcross21 This song was also made by Cherrelle before Robert Palmer. I think Cherrelle's version is the original. Not sure tho.

  • @dromycatcher prince is it?

  • @dromycatcher Thats because it was made in the 80's

  • @dromycatcher because it is

  • mariah no fogs

  • i think its really good, but at some points the music is louder than her voice which bothers me. could just be a volume issue though.. idk

  • I love it.

  • this videos is not the one that should be choosen for this song. Just listen to the lyrics and watch the video.

  • ha i like that

sorry i didnt mean to turn you on hehe

  • MARIAH IS GORGEOUS AND YOU JUST STUPID

  • This version is awesome!! If it were the original people would love it but since it's not people are trying to find things wrong with it. Whatever, Mariah is still awesome!

  • cherrelle's is better

  • I love Mimi but this is not a good remake, Robert palmer's has a better vibe/groove.

  • u swear...mariah's makes u actually wanna dance and it has strong vocales unlike the other 2...this version is #1

  • Lame video. Tip - don't use footage of her lip syncing to everything BUT the song that's playing. Better off with stills or footage from the movie.

  • lol jk i know that was a diffrent video

  • looks like this is a slow camera or she's a relly bad lip singer. lol

  • Comment removed

  • this version is really flat ... Prefer the original.

  • I dunno man..... I'm really not feeling this one dude.. and I LOVE Mimi.

damn it stop the screaming on the record Mariah!!!!!! agghhhhhhhh

  • I LOVE MAriah..I LOVE this Version!

I Love ROBERTS AS well...Its in a different style of music though but you want to move to his TOO. And then the original by the artists name I cant recall(Sherell) I think hers was the JAM as well!

  • Cherelle

  • Thanks!!

  • I'm pretty indifferent about Mariah, but what a pleasant surprise this cover is! Then again I love most intelligently written 80s synth pop-funk music. I like the original as well. Unlike a lot of "80s throwbacks" out there, this ACTUALLY sounds dated in many ways and that's a GOOD thing. Her scale hopping isn't overpowering the song, either. Which is also a good thing!

  • Cover sucks

  • and anyway all you people say mariah copied these songs it was for the movie glitter so noone should be hated on :)

  • wow so many haters on mariah carey

i never knew robert plamer excisted .

    love you mariah !

  • Mariah Carey is cool i like here i love her songs

  • Mariah should of had made a video lof this & payed homage to Cherelle's verson & even had King Kong after her that would of ruled!!

  • This is what she should of being telling Nick Cannon

  • esto aspira realmente el asno

  • God! She bugs the crap out of me, I wish she would stop singing in vibrato and STOP touching herself. I much prefer Robert Palmer's version
