"They called us all the verandah boys, they thought we were just a bunch of toys, But we won the right to vote at midnight hour, came out of jail and took power. With Appiah the ambassador, Casely Hayford the barrister,
these two gentlemen did quite well, they got us out of the jailhouse cell.
The British MP Gammans was rude, by his dog in the mangerish attitude,
But like the ostrich we know that man can go bury his head in the sand" Google "Ghana Freedom Song "
"From his Ussherfort Cell, where they bolted the doors so well, Nkrumah made his clarion call, and the people voted him one and all. Chorus : Freedom, freedom is in the land, Friends, let us shout, Long live the CPP! Which now controls Africa's destiny."
BReaking news ! Somoen has done some research into the Secret History of this song. The original was made before independence and had much more radical political lines. Presumably the colonial governmet wasn't happy and the original disdappeared. Google "secret history ghana freedom" for more.
all my friends think this song is annoying but i can't stop singing it due to the emotional impact the events that transpired in those years had on the people of my homeland
Osagyefo Kwame Nkrumah brought a new dawn into the lives of Africans, fifty-four years ago, because this was a genuis who not only loved us, but he showed us the way and he made Ghana into an independent African state and we shouldn't forget this important time in our lives.
I've left instructions that when I die they're to play this to me in my coffin. If I don't smile and start jigging about it'll be safe to nail down the lid and bury me.
Ghana we now have freedom, Ghana land of freedom, God is great we have brought results...Kwame, star of Ghana, Nkrumah, star of Ghana, Gold Coast will thank (names a lot of freedom fighters)

@futuremarine76 ...they were in the middle of wars and corruption. England was controlling Africa, and Africans were trying to fight back
