Agreed. Viv is on a different plane altogether. Better bowling attacks, who were kept fresher, no bouncer restrictions, slowish outfields and largely helpful picthes for seamers and bats much superior these days....Sachin would have been a fraction of a batsman that he is in this era of batting-friendly rules environment. the only real comparison between Richards, Ponting, Lara and Tendulkar is they are all attacking batsmen apart from that their all quite different so it's hard to say one is better than the others.

You totally overlook that playing on uncovered pitches without even a helmet and no rules to protect batsmen against the superfast bowlers of the 70s and 80s made batting way more difficult in the 70s/80s than in the 90s and this decade. T'kar can only dream of achieving Viv's Packer Series level and his 189* vs Eng or his 153* vs Aus in ODIs.
