there was the MIDLAND, and THE VIC, both gone, the vic was near to the old entrance of the speedway on hyde road close to hunters lane on the oposite side of the road, there was a pub on kirky lane quite new called the LONGSIGHT, renamed the BELLE VUE, thats demolished too now. it was named after the LONGSIGHT pub, that was situated at the back entrance to belle vue.
Many a happy hour pub-crawling down Hyde road.Starting off from Kirky lane (what was that boozer called?) if you made it down as far as the City Gates George Heslops place you only had to turn round and head back to the chippy on Mount road!
my mother used to work at this pub in the 70s as a cleaner, but that was when an organ player called LES owned it, and the gorton flats was still standing, as was belle vue.
what shops? there isnt any close to here..only kebab place round the corner. which is part of the pub cheshire hunt. there is a few shops in other direction near to birch street thats only a cafe and taxi place, if you turn left at lights at top end of belle vue street..the nearest shops are past mount road. the baths has been demolished, the lake hotel and midland also long gone. going back..down belle vue street the gorton brook pub has also been demolished.
They knock down a good pub to build what?......NOTHING.

Ah, I remember..there was a beer shop there for a while, and a motorcycle spares shop, both these are now closed down.
