excellent demonstration Kiva !-) I notice the track is in the arrangement & not the session view, Kiva mentions he doesn't use the pads to trigger the clips but as sends to the effects, my question is, is he using cue markers to trigger the musical phrases along the arrangement i.e. the intro breaks & so on? like the way maschine uses scenes ?
@jazzplayer9 KORG KAOSS PAD. X-Y touch pad oscillator/FX Return/modulator, lot of flexibility mapping FX and Parameters with it. theres alot of virtual ones inside Ableton, the most popular one being the Chorus Live Device.
Kivas a good man. met the guy in LA couple years back. killed it on the dub sounds with scientist. Big up my friend. still want to head to NY to check out the spot.
Respect to Kiva for bringing forward the dub sounds in America.
Personally I think you can get a more realistic feeling with a behringher BCR in which you can set 8 tracks each with its own mute and 4 knobs that can work as sends... this way you can control the amount you send and it still retains the mixer type channel layout Kiva talks about...
Aslo, a BCR costs half of the APC so you can get 2 and have 16 tracks or have a second one with faders...
So sick! Gives me tons of inspirations for my live dub template.. One comment I have is that you should use the volume faders for muting tracks if you can, it makes it a lot smoother especially on drums, but I understand sometimes its not possible to slide the faders up and down quickly and accurately
@tron69snipes>> its "prefader" on my last effects send to the env filter effect I was using...it allows you to hit the send even with the volume fader down..on normal post-fader, if you cut the volume you quit feeding your send...look above your master channel and you'll see the option switch for your effect sends ;) :KIVA:
@c0nman4 I am running one of my effect send/return loops out of ableton, thru the kaos, and then back into ableton...using an audio interface with multiple in/outs, U can assign the audio of a return track to go out to hardware gear, then patch it back in thru a set of inputs on your interface....great for using old guitar fx pedals, rack verbs, kaos pads, etc as part of your rig & sound! :KIVA:
@c0nman4 yes thats what I have used in the past, I could not configure the send/returns so just one track could be effected at a time. Instead since its the master output all tracks are effected at once... feel free to email me connsmith@gmail.com.. i would greatly appreciate it
That wasn't anything fancy, he was just running fx, while clips or scenes were playing, and user midi mode to map a few controls. The tracks laid out is already there, he's just adding fx and launching/stopping/killing the channel buttons.
Just remember the apc40 has a user mode to set it up any way you like.
@kimseniorb no max4live used on this set, this was done doing normal midi mapping inside live to the effect sends. assign an effect send to a clip launch button and U will get a light on the APC when the send is open :KIVA:
@kimseniorb They should work fine when remapping, make sure you've got your MIDI prefs set up right.. You need to select it as a control surface and ALSO set up the Track and Remote settings for your input and output.
@trinidee247 : really? .....the screenshot at 56secs into the video is an Ableton effect? .....hmm, I'm gonna have go fire up my laptop....that looks totally unfamiliar!
How are you able to have your volume faders automated in session view, but then still controlling them with your apc without disabling the automation?
@diehirndisco : I did all the mixing live with global record on...the video crew did a screen capture of my set afterwards to sync up with the camerawork, so thats why U see the automation. :KIVA:
