To whomever is asking which pickup he's using here - look at the pickup selector: its both neck and bridge since the switch is centered. He could have more volume on the bridge using the pots but its definitely a combo of both in my opinion.
The bridge p/u brings out a lot more volume from these basses. The neck p/u rounds over the overall sound but usually isnt very good by itself and isnt anywhere near as hot.
I had a 4003 and a 4001 v63 reissue and I miss them.
holy shit, the never ending pick debate. Anyone who can sit their and say, in earnest, that bass is not meant to be played with a pick is a closed-minded non-musician in my book. Two words for you :BOBBY VEGA.
Most bassists that play with picks are terrible, but also, most bassists that play with picks aren't influenced by people like Chris Squire... they're influenced by bands like Motley Crue and Slipknot.
I believe that's the only reason for that stereotype, Yes! :D
@Bassmastasnake33 I think it's neck, but I barely use that bass because it's so expensive and I'm deathly afraid of dropping it or someone else damaging it. I mostly use the Rick-o-Sound too.
Always loved what his tone did for Yes. The greatest pick player out of all of them. A true signature tone. Remember hear "the fish" first time; that solo blew me away. No one can play the Ric like Chris.
hes not always a picker but most of his lines are written in pick tech but ive seen him and heard of him using fingers...but mostly pick for consistency and tone
that's a big meh. nothing impressive here.

@DamnationEternal Isn't that what a solo on any instrument is? The performer jerking off? What's so horrible about that?

One of my favotite bass players in the world.
PD: if you want to listen another amazing pick player, listen to Carles Benavent.

@ChazRufiange Nope. He uses Herco heavy nylon picks. Check out the "Star Licks" interview.

I heard he is a large guyl. Normal size Rickenbacker bass look so small when he is holding it..

Why is there a pick/finger divide? Who cares? It's the music that counts surely.

no! He use pick! Now he's 3rd again, under Geddy Lee and John Entwistle! Anyway he's great!

@LaxBros4Life question, does that sound come from the toaster/neck pickup or is it from the bridge pick up
Bassmastasnake33 2 months ago
@Bassmastasnake33 Seeing where he picks his strings and the sound : clearly bridge pick-up.
