It did way better peaking on the R&B chart. That's because the only funk the fucktard dope redneck White assholes knew about before the Disco Fad began in 1974 was Sly & The Family Stone. GD disgraceful that the World never caught attention to the best Funk Music recorded long before it became a Fad. Another reason why I hate Fads. Always have and always will. I like style long before it becomes a God damn fad.
@3:06- "I'm goin' home and put on some cologne, so I can smell sweet- but I'll STILL be funky 'cause I'm the Funky Man! Remember dat-... I'm the Funky Man- ... F-U-N-K and other-Y's"
@TheDroneSuite common knowledge? yea right... besides why do you have a problem with someone saying something? like seeing that comment actually upset you? maybe you should try going outside.
@TheDroneSuite ...it's an awesome sample, i'm just saying it was sampled. Not "trying to sound intelligent and informed" and what do you mean for 5 minutes? ...it gets boring? What? You need to go outside and play. The Smack My Bitch Up sample is awesome and if you have a problem with someone typing in "this was sampled" then you really need to step away from the computer.
@TheDroneSuite Ad Hominem? I didn't say you were wrong because you're an idiot, I said you're an idiot, and you're also wrong. "I won't be engaging you from this point onwards" <- wow talk about trying to "sound intelligent and informed for 5 minutes."
Wow I didn't know about this song and I thought I had checked out all the Kool & The Gang stuff from this period. I am VERY happy to discover this! This is GREAT!!! Recorded in '71, this is the real thing! The instrumental flip side that you uploaded is great too.
At some point in the song I got to thinking about how soon after this recording the Philadelphia sound would become a dominant force, and just then he says "I think I'll move to Philadelphia" :)
this is one of my famous by Kool And The Gang. But when it comes to Philadelphia-Sound there are some other bands who are playing "earthy" funk. Watch out, I will post some examples soon...
...I've got every "studio-take-album" by Kool & The Gang. This is no album track. But possibly you can find it on a "live-cut-album" as the other 2 single cuts "N.T." and "Who's Gonna Take The Weight" are on on the Album "Live At The Sexmachine". I'm not sure.
Sem duvida nenhuma,não se faz mais balanços como antigamente! kOOL AND THE GANG e JB`S eram as bandas dos bailes nos anos 70 e 80.

The B-side was called "1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8" and was simply this song without "the Funky Man".

@svendiamond People saying things just for a bit of attention. You wanted to sound intelligent and informed for 5 minutes. It just gets boring.

@svendiamond I find your ad hominem's asinine and childish. I won't be engaging you from this point onwards.
