  • how bout playing it? its a beauty but how does it sound?

  • Hi! I bought a set of pick up fender CS69 for my fender strat USA (dated '91) The sobstitution of the originals was ok but now the sound is very mutch weak !!! Can it depends by other electronic parts like tone and volume controls??

    Help me!!

    Antonio

  • I'm curious, I just got a Fender MIJ 54 strat and was looking for a black pickguard. I can't believe how hard it is to find a nice one, bought one off of eBay and it didn't work!? I was also curious what you guys think about covers, white or cream? I've got Dimarzio's in this guitar right now, I really didn't care for the Gilmour EMG set I had, mainly it was a pain to change batteries. I can see how they're popular, especially if you hate single coil hum, I kind of like it personally?

  • I would like to have one of those beauties. Good job, can I borrow your Black Strat for my next Pink Floyd video tutorial? :-)

  • I did the replica of the 77 area...animals and David Gilmour first solo album.

Mine is actually a Mexican strat, but it sounds really good! It have a rosewood neck and on the neck a Fender Custom S. Fat 50's and in the middle a Fender Custom S. 69' and a Seymour Duncan SSL-5...but I'm gonna buy the Dimarzio FS-1 soon...

And I also added the mini switch selector, it sounds awsome...more sounds options...Yepp! it's gonna be the perfect replica!

  • Very nice. I'm build one now as I write this.

  • hey great soundtrack

  • I am building me one of these but I'll probably leave the mini toggle switch off.. though I've bought one. Unless I can figure out how to fix it like on the original, mounted below the pickguard. Anyone got any ideas? I have the black strat book but cant figre out how the switch is fitted. Some sort of u shaped bracket ... I'll put locking tuners on as I love these. Hey your axe looks uber cool. Great job Great job. Shine on :-)

  • Who cares about the black relic, I would much rather have Daves candy red strat with the EMG pick-ups.

  • @messybluesboy yea, done one like that as well

  • @wcx2 Make a vid on it then! I'd love to see it!!

  • @wcx2 ne too

  • what exactly dose the extra selector switch do?i never knew david used one

  • I was also looking at "gilmourizing" a strat and putting in 57/62 pickups. Are the knobs and pickup covers on the gilmour strat cream or aged white, or just white? Where did you get matching knobs and pickup covers, if you can post a link that would be great.

    Thanks,

    Sam

  • I never realised how much Buckethead owes Dave Gilmour for his clean tone, its almost exactly the same:D

    nice guitar by the way:D

  • thats funny because Bucket doesn't list David as an inspiration at all.

  • I know, but he must be.

if you listen to some of buckets more ambient stuff his bends an phrasing is really gilmour-esque.

so I think he must be a fan.

  • yeah but you could say that about Jimi Hendrix too. Don't get me wrong, i love Gilmour. Probably one of the best that ever was in that genre of rock.

  • yeah, but BH cites Hendrix as a huge influence, i'd love to hear bucket ripping up the comfortably numb solo, or playing shine on you crazy diamond.

  • Hey Gilmour's Black Strat originally had Late 60's Single coil, not seymour D's. Just lettin you know. Check out Gilmour's website on his Gear and Guitars..awesome reference point.

  • whats that song???

  • @str8tballa raise my rent..

  • I am in the pprocess of gilmourizing my squier strat ( dont laugh im on a budget). i have the wiring done i just need the seymore duncans and the maple neck

  • Good luck :)

  • whats that little swich??

  • CACmusic1

Hey thanks i actually ended up getting an all parts 50's reissue nitro cellulose for only $170 and it is dead on to the original black strat specs, as in a 7.25 radius and c-shape

  • sorry dude i love david gilmour but nobodys strat is better than stevie ray vaughn's

  • Gilmour's is!

  • WOW....Awesome tribute<3 The song was very beautiful!! David Gilmour is my GOD!!! The best guitarist in the world ever... in my opinion, of corse<3<3

  • I'm doing practically what you did.

I'm buying a lefty American standard black strat w/ maple neck, and just switching out the pickguard with a 1 ply black pickguard and put some seymour d's in there as well

  • I did the same too:)

  • gilmour the best

  • HI i was wondering what neck you used, where i could get one and for how much.

    Thanks

  • Go to warmoth . com They have the best selection of necks. A good one would be a compound radius neck ( 22 fret maple wood) so that when your playing cowboy chords it has that easy fender feel but when you're up at the neck you don't fret out. You can get a great neck for only $300!!! Just make sure that you have a japanese or american fender because the mexican ones can be a little weird with where the holes are for the screws but you could always plug and drill new holes.

  • warmoth, musikraft and usa custom. do your research and find out which is best for you.

  • what king of pickups did u put

  • Hi, your guitar is perfect, where found this single ply black pickguard?

  • what song is playing during video.?

  • Sounds like "What do You Want From Me" It's off The Division Bell.

  • It's called 'Raise my Rent', from Gilmour's first solo album from 78 - a very good record.

  • What is that extra switch between the knobs and the pickup selector?

  • ABSOLUTE AWESOME...Fender best...Forever in my heart.....

  • not the right switch, but other than that, beautiful, nice job...trim those strings

  • You can now find 1 ply acrylic pickguard with the correct, flush switch installed for like $50 on EBAY. Do a search for "acrylic magic" I have and 8 hole 57 reissue strat, & it fit perfectly. I had to drill a few holes, but you can not tell the difference between mine & a NOS. I actually like mine better. Callaham arm. Kept the original Fender Trem. Fat 50's neck, CS 69 middle & a Duncan SSL5 in the bridge, and a bone nut. Great post & great looking guitar. You can make one for a lot cheaper

  • Hi there, mind if I ask you if this pickguard ia an 11 hole/1-ply ? Because I just happen to find the 8 hole ones (the old pattern), and my Fender is an American Series 2005. If it is an 11 hole, could you please tell me where you found it? I'm really impressed by the difficulty to find this pickguard!

Thank you and congrats for the guitar, great replica :)

  • so beautiful....

  • The only things missing are the Seymour Duncan bridge pickup, ans the vintage tuners. Not complete without either. You can get the tuners online for about $40. Might wanna add the mod he uses to activate the neck and bridge pickups. A little toggle switch gives the Strat a Telecaster sound.

  • OH wait, never mind, you do have it. I didn't see the switch at first because of glare. Swith is a bit large though.... Oh and the tuners are Fender/Gotoh Vintage Style Tuning Machines. Personally I LOVE the oval shape over the stock modern shape. I'm slowly modding my Squire Strat into a kickass Copy of David's Fender. I already replaced the Pickups with '69 custom shops, and ALL the wiring and switches. Already did wonders. Soon it will be the Tuners and pickguard, then the neck. Last will be

  • last will be the toggle switch, and either a DiMarzio FS-1 bridge pickup for a more Animals sound or the Seymour Duncan, for a more "The Wall- Present" sound. Still debating. Either way, the my Squier is not a cheap low cost guitar anymore. It's living up to it's Fender name. Rock on.

  • Is the seymour duncan a stacked single coil?

  • Hi :o) Great looking Strat, man! Would you mind telling me how the small toggle switch are working? Where does it lead to?

  • dude thats really great looking! how did you get the tremelo to be short, but still have the bend in it?

  • People will buy anything these days!! I don't understand why anybody would want a copy of another person's guitar. A guitars characteristics are created by the person playing it, not by the way it looks. Yes Dave's guitar has had a lot of modifications over the years but by HIM. My advice is buy an American Standard ( just like Dave did in 1970) play it for 40 years, and BINGO you have your very own custom stratocaster.

  • Comment removed

  • trim your strings nice guitar

  • WHAT SONG IS THIS

  • "Raise My Rent" off of Dave's first solo album. A MUST have.

  • thank. you. SOOO much. i was dying to find this out!! i LOVE it!!!

  • I agree... A vastly underrated album!

  • where did you get the neck? :)

  • Where did you get your single ply black pickguard?

  • I don't like the fact the new signature strat is damaged I want an untouched one.

  • They have two versions of it. A brand new one and a reliced one which has all the scratches and dings like the real Legendary "Black Strat"!

  • how do you add one of those switches that selects the bridge pickup, - is it called coil tapping or is that with humbuckers, cause i wanna add a switch to my strat that selects the bridge pickup so i can have more tones

  • nice guitar

    trai

hahaha audio preview is awesome just type in random letters like this

    ebdikwebdebdjsdbjsejnlscvhjcnjfhrufsufskjbcjkdfvbkjxcknasfuckridvneisusshit

and it even swears like this

im sick of these mother fucking snakes on this mother fucking plane

    hahaha

  • YOU built that?

    wow!!

  • hey wcx2, just wondering if you could send me all the specs and how you went about building your beautiful dg replica, looks amazing...thanks

  • Looks great..theres no way i'd buy the fender version(s)they're way over-priced.According to the "black Strat" book the one that Gilmour plays is more or less a partscaster itself anyway.Various necks including a Charvel with Fender logos..kahler trem at one point..a real work in progress guitar.

  • I like it.

I wouldn't pay 4k$ for the factory model if Sir David himself owned it.

    good job

  • nevermind just saw the anwser

  • What is the extra toggle for?

  • it has something to do with being able to play with the neck and bridge pickup at the same time, or something else like that that the pickup selector cant do. davids strat has a seymour duncan in the bridge, so it sounds best with that configuration.

  • texasranga is wright. It allows you to play all three pickups at the same time and mix the neck with the bridge pickup

  • ok...

  • What tune is this?

  • wow thats preety 8D

  • hey man sick guitar but tonight i just played the actual relic replica at guitar center and on the back it had 3 springs not two

  • Yea i know the original has 3 springs, but i like my trem with a lighter touch. How did the relic play man??

  • it played pretty nicely the action was almost to low. But it sounded amazing like really thick and round just like David's. The whole relic part of the guitar was pretty sick too. You pretty much nailed it bro

  • what for that extra switch???

  • As well a the standard selections from the 5-way switch, i can have neck/bridge or all three at once with the extra switch :)

  • who sell that BOOK on Gilmour's strat ?

  • you're not going to "relic" it are you??

  • Lol, nah, although i may replace the pickups with custom shop jobs.

  • ya i pulled up the specs

    neckpup- custom shop fat 50's

    middle- custom shop 69

    bridge- seymour d. ssl-5

  • nice replica, are the pickups exact to gilmours? and i want to make one too or get one since theyre coming out for like 4 grand tho so i will probably replicate one on estimate how much does it cost to make one?

  • any1 whos interested in the guitar, theres a great book out there by his roadie phil taylor called the black strat, intersting book =D

  • smooooth guitar man, i was thinking of buying a fender 50's classic series black and just buy a black pickgaurd :D

  • daves has a nitro body and a 54' type neck... lately leaning towardsa the emg's....

  • yep the body on davids black strat is an 69-70 nitro finished (black over suburst) body

and the neck is from a 1982 or 83 57' reissue strat....

  • does anyone know what this guitar is...........

its like a strat but slightly smaller and do you know how the bridge pickup is slanted its got 2 of them and a black pickguard

  • eh?

  • i was playing it in benidorm its raffa raposos guitar its really wierd is there any way i can try to send a picture

  • Duo-sonic?

  • does anyone know how much the new gilmour strat will be

  • The list price is over $3,000 (USD)

It'll probably sell in stores for around $2,500.

    Basically, way too damn expensive.

Nice instrument, but too rich for my blood.

Might be more cost efficient to either make your own strat and copy the looks/electronics.

Or you could maybe buy an American Standard Black strat new for around $900-$1,000 USD.

Replace the white pick guard with a black one, would look pretty damn close to Gilmour's.

  • More than what it's worth. Build your own, save more than just a few bucks, and give yourself a sense of accomplishment! :)

  • true that.

you don't have to feel guilty about playing it if you build it yourself... do you consider buying a pre painted body from warmoth diy?

  • What type of toggle switch did you use to engage the neck pickup

    ?

  • very sexy

  • Lol, thanks

  • where did u get the neck

  • nice guitar there buddy!!!!!!!

  • what song is this is it by pink floyd i dnt recognise it

  • Its "raise me rent", from one of David Gilmour's solo albums.

  • how much did this cost in total?

  • It cost about £80. I only had to buy the body, pickguard, fender trem saddles and 50's decal.

  • it's only a black stratocaster....nothing better...if someonefind o guitar and give it a black biguard, will he say it david gilmour strat??NO..so it is not real david gilmour guitar...it has the same design...simple stratocaster!!:/david gilmour strat=4000$...

  • obviously dumbass ya see lots of people dont wanna go and spend a shit load of money, so they just make it look like his guitar

  • I'm investing in making my own David Gilour strat replica, is this a Fender Classic Series, with a black pickguard? And how did you get the coil tap? haha, You did an excellent job, It looks beautiful.

  • His bridge has 3 tremolo springs, one more than you have.

  • Cheers. Great guitar mate. Do you have the Hendrix strap to match?

  • What music is this?

  • It's called Raise My Rent - from David Gilmour's first solo album David Gilmour (1978), a hugely underrated album.

  • The inicial solo is almost the same from What Do You Want From Me. xDDD
