  • i dont know what im feeling while listening this song... sad maybe

  • bit like my mother.....she´s dead now.....suicide. Poor woman!!

  • trippin video innit?

  • That's probably not his mom... the mom is played by Kirsty Hawkshaw, the vocalist for Opus III. Her vocal sample is played backwards throughout this song.

  • insomnia will def do this shit to u...... know first hand

  • One of my favorite music videos...I just wish I could find it in better quality. Shame the great things are so obscure. :-(

  • this scares me really badly, but i love it?

  • btw, this is on vimeo in better quality :)

  • Really similar to "It's A Fine Day" by Opus3 ?

  • @mattphelan The song features a backmasked vocal sample by Kirsty Hawkshaw from "It's a Fine Day" by Opus III

  • 画質悪くて意味わからんw

  • Uploaded Jan 2006...I remember when all youtube videos were this bad in quality. I said to myself "youtube is never gonna make it, who would want to watch stuff this bad?" Course google knew a good thing when it saw it and added the options for Hi-Def. Very glad they did! Can you upload the vid again so we can have it in higher quality now?

  • THIS VIDEO REMINDS ME OF REQIUM FOR A DREAM.

  • @onemindspinning me to

  • It's going to be a fine night tonight.

  • those synth ahhhh....

  • Hackers ))

  • "It's a fine day" backwards

  • love it

  • מזה החרא איכות הזאת??????? איככככככ

  • my son suggested that I check this out and it`s one more reason to love him.

  • @strat8383 your son is a stoner sir, i'd be very proud

  • This was the beginnig of the trip music ! colorful music !

  • Her name is Kirsty Hawkshaw. AKA Opus 3. She used to hang around with Spiral Tribe back in the day. Lovely little hippy chick!

  • i love this vid, this lady is tripping balls. I wonder if they still make Halcion.

  • prodigy remix xx

  • ..aand that's how much fun you can have washing the dishes :P

now we know what "housewives" are REALLY doing ;D

  • Whats the name of the orbital track the starts " i was driving my car down the road when i saw two bright lights.....................i am convinced i was abducted by aliens and later rejected"

  • "its a fine day,ppl open windows..." opus. i think.

  • Opus 3, if i remember correctly.

  • yup, it's a fine day. i like ATBs version myself

  • Never heard it

  • look it up, it's on here. ATB "It's a fine day".... the wierd thing for me that i've listened to both for years, usually one right after the other, never knew halcyon was a backmasked version of "its a fine day"... now i see the correlation. i think you'll like it

  • Aight! I'll check it out!

  • weird video song is awesome

Menno De Jong all the wayy!!!!

  • trippy ass shit. amazing video.

  • quiet nostalgia...

  • hackers!

  • Naaa. Mortal Kombat :p

  • Are you kidding? its a great film, the only film where angelina looks attractive

  • Naa... She looked hot hot in beowolf...

  • Mom is feeling a bit weird today, the dishes might not get done!

That baby cracks me up too!

  • hah this is the song from mean girls too!

at the end of the movie.

  • I was introduce to Orbital from Mortal Kombat OST

  • MORTAL KOMBAT-2, was better for this track.

    DTR-DEZ-CHRIS

  • Desperate housewife....

  • ill housewife, mentally ill housewife.....so maybe a desperate housewife lol

  • this song has a "menacing" quality

  • THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR POSTING THIS! I've been looking for the full version for forever (well, hearing it on the mean girls OST in 2004) XX

  • wow song is so pure and serene, but the video is 'requiem for a dream'-esque. any harder a song and this would be outright disturbing. as is--perfect. dunno if im more impressed with this awesome version of the song or the video. either way thanks for posting.

  • apparently their mother was into the drug 'halcion' a sedative popular in 50>70s - hence the video tribute! mad eh! (the woman in the video is also Kirsty the singer from Opus III 'it a fine day', which is sampled in this track).

  • super disturbing video

why have I not seen/heard this before?

Life had no meaning.. until now

  • Then next search for " Belfast" and "Are We Hear" by Orbital. Then try driving with these tunes on. It's like you are flying in a trance.

  • love watching her do the wavy hand dance,

  • Is there anything better than this? The answer is: not fucking likely.

  • One of the best songs ever!

  • Awesome tune! Their playing Global Gathering this year =)

  • nostalgy

  • If anybody has this version can you message me please!

  • My word, I hope they do Glastonbury this summer. My life will then be complete.

  • This is soooooooooo beautiful(prob my fav Orbital track + try 'For silence' on the Paul hartnoll album cos it's equally sublime) I've tried to write something in this style but i cant do it. I suck and every track i write these days turns into hard as nine inch nails distorted fury! perhaps if i didnt try....

  • This is a sample of Opus III - It's A Fine Day

  • About the weird music video we did, Halcyon is the brand name of a controversial drug which was prescribed to housewives - hence the 1950's style housewife you see in the vid. See you at the Big Chill 2009!!!

  • thats right , apparently their mother was into the drug - hence the video tribute! mad eh! (the woman is also Kirsty the lead singer from OpusIII, which is sampled in this track.

  • i first heard this at the end of mean girls

  • lmao that's so horrible u serious, hackers was a better movie.

  • Gotta love Orbital one of the best live acts i have ever seen

  • This is one of my favorite songs to show to people how brilliant Orbital was. When you play this song, then follow it up with Halcyon + on + on, it's pretty mind-blowing how radically the mood of the song changes, even though the song's structure is identical and you can count the changes on one hand. (Nothing Left parts 1 and 2 were another pair with the same property.)

  • that's the stuff junkies are made of.

  • one of the weirdest music videos ive ever seen lol

  • lets face it the song is pretty weird anyway u know a nutter had to make it i still ove the track don't get me wrong but what sane person would make a track like this

  • yeah its still a pretty wicked song track... whenever i hear it i think about the movie hackers :)

  • halcyon is without h,is alcyon:)

  • video+ tune is about hartnoll's mother who suffered from insomina and was prescribed Triazolam to fight her insomnia.this video is hartnoll's persepton of his mother, while she was on the drug. in relation to the word halcyon, peaceful tranqual and all the rest of it,if you take the 'y' out of the word and replace it with an 'i' which would spell halcion this is the brand name which Triazolam is sold under.the title 'halcyon' really means halcion, and the play on words reflects his perception.

  • The tilte Halcyon reminds me of a drug my mother got prescribed against depression. The odd behaviour of the actress in the clip, her hallucinations, (especially seeing things in water) are like the deviated things my mother did on that drug. So I guessed that the composer must have had similar experiences. By the way, Halcyon got banned in the early eighties after a number of suicides of people on the drug.

  • that was very interseting thank you

  • @pouecc you mean this was an advertisement for a drug compny?

  • @narkiz Just because the writer vaguely referenced a drug's name within a different word, doesn't mean it's an advertisement >_>

there are plenty of references to the word "Halcyon" in other media, without having anything to do with a drug.

  • @wintermute64 now now we all know that internet has PLENTY of references to anything commercial and there is no reason why anyone cannot use it to refer to a tranqualizer. You are just looking at the title of the song, when you combine it with the clip it makes sense. You cannot rule out the possibility straight away.

  • my claim to fame: im the baby @ 1:45 :P

  • pffft liar.. prove it

  • how? I am Phil's son. I could give you his phone number but he probably wouldnt want that...

I wouldnt lie about something so useless :P

  • I'm a close friend and I can categorically state that he is indeed Milo Hartnoll, son of Phil Hartnoll, you cynical fool! It is him at 1:45

  • yay gaby!

  • what a cute baby you were :)

  • @Sudgy Really? Congratulations :)

  • @verapamil07 haha thanks, I was apparently staring at my mother, trying to show her what I threw on the floor.

  • @Sudgy are you really?

  • @kobiemajor Yes I promise you, the boy in the chicken suit is my older brother : ]

  • @Sudgy dude your mom is HOT

  • @Sudgy But... are you?

  • strange vid,good music

  • wow..just wow...

  • kirsty hawkshaw is gorgous!, even with a skinhead with opus 3! imagine that angel singing in your ear while pumping away!

  • Well that's just

  • thank you to wikipedia

  • I actually started the "Halcyon (Orbital song)" entry on Wikipedia, way back when. It has, of course, been improved beyond all recognition from my original article. Nevertheless, glad you found it helpful :-)

  • A closely related song is "Halcyon + on + on", a slightly more upbeat remix of the original song featuring a backmasked vocal sample by Kirsty Hawkshaw from "It's a Fine Day" by Opus III (1992) (Hawkshaw played the mother who was 'under the influence' in the video, which was shot in the Hartnolls' home). In contrast to the original, the remix is far more widely known, and has featured on several movie soundtracks (most notably Mortal Kombat, Hackers, CKY2K and Mean Girls).

  • Is it just me... or is this vid a little odd? XD

    Good song though.

  • Goddamn! It's been hella long since I've heard/seen this! Hella good tune. This and Halcyon + on + on are both good ass tunes!

  • I love this song and it made Hackers better then it was. Not knocking it one of my fav movies of all times!

    Cult Classic !

  • What an interesting video. You know dishpan hans looks like a product I think you could actually purchase. It's really in the lavender!

  • Very strange song and video...

  • what did ah tell ye??!!??

  • Freakin wack video...

    Great song though

  • idk y but this track brings bk memories of sitting in mums car as a kid :)

now i like to ride to this track BMX 4EVA! :)

  • Wicked Old skool track from '92 from the early techno pioneers...Orbital!

  • This is my FAVORITE song, ever. There are a lot of sweet remixes, too

  • brings bak so many messy memories. allways the tune thats played at the end of a wicked set. wen i was in ibiza in 04 james zabiela played it for the last track of his set at sum underground rave outside on a cliff and the sun was setting at the same time this was playin. made the hairs on my neck stand up.

  • in the video isn't that the girl who sangs the song that is sample in this one just she has hair here.

  • yes that is Kirsty Hawkshaw from Opus III that sang fine day the song Orbital sampled isn't that fabulous

  • yes, usually song sampling will go wrong but this is perfect

  • holy shit i only just noticed that! took me long enough lol XD

  • love it,driving my bike at night and listening this song.just great.

  • i love this song!

  • this is short version of 9 minutes original version...

  • you are wrong, they made this song first and then remixed to the Halcyon + on + on version used in Mortal Kombat OST

the first version (this one) was dedicated to their mother in 1992 because she was addicted to tranquiliser Halcion (that is why it is called Halcyon)and then after one year they released the remixed version Halcyon + on + on

  • This song was used in the movie Hackers before Mortal Kombat.

  • well, i meant it this way: They made this song first and then remixed to the Halcyon + on + on version wich was used FOR EXAMPLE in Mortal Kombat OST

    ;-)

  • yeah but this song was before mortal kombat and hackers they change the beat this is the original better then the ones they made

  • no...it isnt

they're two different songs, the "9 minute one" (halcyon & on & on) is the remixed version

    which i personally like better

  • Seriously this sound is so exciting!!!

  • Shows how techno can be as beautiful as classical music. A total classic that will be played for decades to come.

  • no, it's neither. if we want to get technical, blissed out ambient-house / tribal techno madness. but intelligent dance music somehow sounds less ridiculous than that, and idm has always been firmly ensconed under the umbrella of techno (production style, sound aesthetics, etc, if not for the driving beat.)

but this is far from trance. back in '93/'94 trance didnt sound like this at all.

  • dawm right mate!

  • Orbital was an English techno duo consisting of brothers Phil Hartnoll and Paul Hartnoll

    try search wikipedia man ;-)

  • Yes, it's a techno duo, but the song itself isn't techno... As pabloplato said: it's something between house & ambient.

  • whatever dude its good music to me, better than any tunes released these days

  • yes indeed, but i prefer "halcyon & on & on" ^_^

  • legendary video

  • sooo amazing

  • my Teacher was the camera man for this video!!!love every bit of it!!

  • lol^^

    but n1 !

  • This tune makes me so moist, endless memories of Ibiza....

  • where can i get this version of the song..?

i have the song, but it goes for like 9 minutes lol.

  • Cette musique et tout simplement MAGNIFIQUE !!! depuis le temps que je la cherche !!! je suis mort de rire de savoir que je les trouvé grace au film "lolita malgré moi"

  • halcyon on& on& on

  • p.s. halcyon is an anti-insomnia drug

  • this song gives me a relaxing feeling just like the song 'need to feel loved' and 'york the awakening' or 'ayla' masterpiece.

  • im a dj and i play this song, it always had mellow meaning to me but after watching this wideo, it makes me sad, as it tells me this is a song of sorrows and life of how its never going to get better. it seems almost as if the sink is her reminising of previous events and years before her shild came about

  • lol, i am trying to find out what the book is about, did so much searching online about barbara catlin.

  • whats shootgun wedding about please lol, shes not also happy wid the kid? excellent tune.

  • this video doesnt make sense

  • It's a melancholy tribute to the addictive sedative Halcyon(Triazolam), which the Hartnoll brothers' mother reportedly used.

Notice the baby drowning in the sink! Mom seems unaware!

  • the song was inspired by their mothers addiction to halcyon, i imagine the video represents that

  • HACK THE PLANET!!!!!!!!!!

  • HACK THE PLANET!!!!- Cereal Killer!!

  • video reminds me of Requiem for a Dream.

  • Halcyon + on + on is much better!

  • agreed. though I like the chord arrangement in this one. and the lofi is nice too :)

  • Echt ein SUPER Lied

  • hackeeeeeeeeeeeeers <3

  • This song also was on CKY2K when they went to Iceland. Sweet song!!!!!!

  • yer it is and on mortalkombat

  • that cleaning birch looks liek she's been on a too long meth-binge :DD great song btw

  • this isnt the one that was on hackers soundtrack. This is the original.

  • Both song and vid are great.

    Thanks for posting!

  • this is the opening song from the Hackers soundtrack, right?

  • Yes above is a cover of that song made by twins from maida vale and the singer is wife of one of them.

  • I've got the fear.

  • yes this is good melody i listening this song because i watch Mortal Kombat heheh greate song rispekta lol

  • i remember i used to watch this video over and over again when i was a kid because i loved the song so much. i actually held a tape recorder to the tv so i could listen to it in my walkman. man those were good times taping amp on mtv

    \

  • Yes! I was right there with you man. I kicked myself for recording over my precious AMP videos with other stuff. I'd give a lot to have someone from MTV dig up those AMP archives and post them somewhere.

  • Hell yeah...I've got to see what amp episodes I still have on vhs when I get back home...

  • You are about to make me a happier person than I already am if you have that stuff still! Young n' dumb me recorded over that footage because I was too cheap when I was young to get more VHS tapes.
