  • This is the greatest video I have ever seen on Youtube. You sir, are one of the greatest minds of our time.

  • that was awesome :]

  • Wow man, I'd like to have you as my geek friend.

  • Censored YouTube Version? where can i watch the original thing?

  • @NeoBalkanacMan Description has a link to it.

  • @NeoBalkanacMan silly me,got distracted by epic vid :P

  • Dude... you're on crack... you're making some connections between psychology and your political views that are out there...

What kind of revolution are you calling up for? rhetorical... good luck with this revolution...

  • This was by FAR the MOST insightful, intelligent Amazing Atheist video I have seen so far.

    Thumbs Up

  • The sentiments behind this video are cool, but I cannot say I totally agree. Social order has real tangible benefits, so long as its not taken too far. Raging against all order and power is quite as poor a plan as supporting all order and power. A unified group can do far more than what an individual can, thats the purpose of social order and why our society got as far as it has. Terrible things happen with the application of order in the wrong place, but thats true of many other things.

  • Right-Wing morality is very dependent on order and authority; left-wing morality depends much more on preventing harm. Preventing harm is also part of right-wing morality but they may overlook harm if authority tells them to. This video tells it well: htt p://ww w.ted.co m/talks/jonathan_haidt_on_the_moral_mind.htm l

  • Morality cannot be objective , saying morality is objective is just as bad as saying God exists. You cannot say that a certain value is superior to another value, no matter how bad you want it to be true or the amount of people that share the supposedly superior value. There simply is no scientific way to prove that one action is bad/good wihout judgment of a conscious entity or subject.

Atheists can be moral, aslong as they recognize morality as nothing more than subjective preference.

    .

  • I got a ticket to ride.

  • most beautifull nietzchean explanation ever!

  • like it or not but there are fundemental morals, they are not subjective, it is not subjective whether it is wrong or not for you to butcher, rape, ... and so on. Those who say it is are demented idiotic tyrants.

  • @RyanR3volution

tribalism is very subjective. if it's viewed as wrong within the tribe to rape or kill other members of their own tribe, but okay if they rape or kill members of other tribes, then yes, even those viewed as fundamental morals are subjective. tribal morality is subjective. the only way maybe is to have all humanity under one tribe (or nation, or culture); but how likely is this to happen ? religious sects are also just another kind of modern tribe that divide.

  • @winzo89

but what your talking about is from our evolutionary tracts as even more primitive animals. It is apples and oranges to present day civilization,

It is simply wrong to say that microwaving a baby is a subjective experience.

It is one person taking away something that is not theirs.

Trying keeping your hate for religion and your thinking cap on at the same time.

  • @RyanR3volution

no, i'm talking about bronze age judaism, actually. well at least that's what i had in mind when i was writing that. but the tribe continues into modern times under the banner of religious and ethnic divisions. just look at armies: whenever they're set loose on some other country (tribe), the killing and raping they tend to inflict on that other country (tribe) is epidemic. it's only been a short time since we came onto civilization, and we've still a way to go.

  • @winzo89

    The State/=/ society

Morality is not subjective, please put down the Ayn Rand nonsense. There are fundemental things which no one has the right to take, no matter what social norm.

It is quite comical to see those who claim to hate fundementalists to have such a bizzare self righteous religion of their own.

  • @RyanR3volution

ayn rand now ? uhm, no, please don't lump me in with sociopaths like her, no. as to your claim that morality is not subjective, hell i whole-heartedly agree with you on that. however, those religious people just don't tend to agree with us on that point. i agree that killing a baby is objectively wrong. religious people do not. to them, killing a muslim, or a jewish baby (if they're a christian at war with their nation) is perfectly okay and proper. i disagree.

  • @RyanR3volution

as to people believing in the philosophy of selfishness of ayn rand being like a church or something, that these crazy philosophies = a religion, uh, no, i think that's kind of not how things work, actually. you'll need a few more hundred (or thousand years) plus a thorough mythologizing of her life (oh like saying she was borne from a virgin mother, et c.) before she becomes a deity and her philosophy becomes like a religion.

  • Words cannot express how incredibly ignorant this video is about the things it talks about.

There are many examples I could cite, but for instance it completely misrepresents the argument for the "selfish-gene" -evolution of morality and pits a deformed straw-man of it against the idea that morality is just control.

Another example is where it equates our ability to train dogs with instilling a moral code into them that's just such a false equivalence that wow I don't know what to say.

  • Comment removed

  • While I disagree with your final point, since morality has kept us as a species alive for a long time and what you describe is actually a new set of a moral code (our own empathy is by definition a moral code), I would say this is a well done video that truly responds to the religious notion that we need a reward system to be good, were in reality we are sort of hard-wired to follow society (those who don't typically can have disorders).

  • ALL HAIL LUNOS!

  • So funny, your advertisement in the lower screen was Scientology :)

  • YOU BROKE DA RULES!

  • @dryce XD only on youtube can you watch nova than TAA

  • Thank you, Mister Atheist.

  • iv seen a lot of people who died brutally and painfully and this made me realise that there's no god and sadly humans dont have any special value we are just part of nature and we die just like any other animals, thats sad the truth.

  • You cannot get rid of morals? wtf....you serious, its just a utopian fantasy. There will always be haves and have nots, Subject and ruler in one form or the other.

  • This video makes me happy im the pants.

  • best video ever

  • Why can't Christians get this through their brains >.>

  • TJ, you upload a lot of videos and they are usually thought provoking and entertaining, but this is by far the best video you have ever uploaded in my opinion.

  • That was fucking AWESOME!

I think that there is homo-erectus and homo-sapien. I believe that some people require hierarchy to function while others function best in equitable cooperatives.

I also think that we also need examine when hierarchy is best, when decisiveness is more important than equality. And when equality is more important than decisiveness.

There are simply too many stupid people who would injure the socially valuable to allow anarchy but we do not need fascism either.

  • if there is no god. then who to say what is bad a judge. a bum you me...

  • this is the most fucked up video iv ever seen.

  • 21:38 damn that bird is a bad ass rebel

  • The ending is a bit disappointing :(

  • This video is easy to troll people with.

  • if he is fighting for this, then why does he hate buddhism? since buddhists believe to do right by your own views on right or wrong but then he hates it and says its evil.

  • @MetalDoneMoreForME Because Buddhism itself is a measurement of morality. I think Nietzsche said that Buddhism was the most positive of the nihilist movements even though it inevitable halted human creativity and happiness.

  • you're a genius.

  • That will stay a dream, you're trying to change the nature of our whole system, humanity is not ready to give up all that

  • one of the best videos you've ever made.

  • My thoughts exacty, man. I am amoral for reasons such as these.

  • I've always decided for myself what i think is right or wrong, i don't listen to what other people tell me is moral or immoral.

  • Great stuff, man. Love it.

  • Best video you ever did man. This is fucking.. Good stuff. You need to get to some convention as a speaker with this - don't confine this to youtube. I am a HIGHLY intelligent fella, and i usually agree with you and all, but this one really got me - i still agree, but it was just a string of thoughts that takes a genius to put together and make sense of. You'll earn a spot beside the likes of Hitchens and Dawkins one day - be sure of that.

  • i love the farside comic at aroun 2:00

  • This is boring. I'm bored now. And it goes on for almost 23 minutes.

  • @ShayWilliamDawson1 It's okay, there are video's like the annoying orange and sxephil's video's for simpleton's like you so you dont have to think.

  • @jwhyte67 Another internet tough guy who knows nothing about the guy he is slamming. Dude, TJ is doing little more than recycling the stuff I learned in Intro to Philosophy 101 ... which I took the year he was born. I was teaching this stuff to incoming Freshmen when I was in grad school. I like TJ for the most part, but don't paint him as any wiser than he is.

  • @ShayWilliamDawson1 To be fair to me though in your message you came off as another ADD riddled nitwit berating the video for not being "hey look at me!" lowest common denominator entertaining. And I agree for the most part, while he makes some scintillating points here ultimately his conclusion is half-baked and naive

  • If TJ runs for president, I will buy a ticket to America just to vote for him.

(And enjoy my time there afterwards but you get my oint)

  • @TheRoflcer If TJ becomes president... I'm a little scared of that idea, but open to it XD

  • I like your idea, TJ, but I experienced, that many people lost their empathy. So they wouldn't have any empathy to guide them. But great idea. Let's hope, it will be possible some day. =)

  • I am soooo ashamed of this video.

  • My mom use to work at a senior home near the murrah building

  • Dawkins can not be expected to talk about every single topic with the same intelligence or logic he talks about certain topics that he knows more about, aside from that good vid.

  • By the way, McVey might have been a false flag to

blow up the evidence around boystown ... priests and politicians lust after

boys equally .. but the latter use officials as pimps and paper trails were kept

    in that building.

  • if you can harangue for as long as 22m you obviously believe in schooling and

snarl yap sear n sound off at class, just like preachers do to congregations,

the competition you try so to deftly declare out of bounds, off side and

limits) .. - you have more talent w imagery. I don't want my anarchism

    championed like you do.

  • You sound like a hippie retard.

  • @MrMarktheJarhead And you sound like an uneducated bigot.

  • @crunchmetal I'm a bigot? I'M a bigot? Fucking hypocrite, All I'm doing is defending my faith. What TheAmazingAsshole and all other intolerant atheists are doing is using logical fallacies and ignorant generalizations to attack a religion that is actually RENOWNED for its compassion. Ha, funny how CHRISTIANITY seems to be the only religion he insults. So ask yourself: who REALLY is the bigot?

  • @MrMarktheJarhead There's a couple things wrong with this comment of yours. First of all, I didn't call you a bigot, I was just letting you know that you were coming off as one. Secondly, TAA attacks other religions as well (he has lots of videos on Islam). Lastly, the global perception of Christianity is not one of compassion, as zealous Christians are responsible for some of history's most non-compassionate deeds.

  • @crunchmetal Well, TAA is still more of a bigot than I "come off as." Most of the things he says about Christians in general are only true for the evangelical, holier-than-thou, foot washing Baptist fundies. Like most atheists, he assumes that all of us reject evolution. I am a Catholic, and I learned about evolution at my CATHOLIC grade school, and it seems like a possible explanation for the development of life on Earth to me (with God at the helm). He also thinks that all Christians HATE homo

  • @MrMarktheJarhead sexuals. Again, this only applies to the WESTBORO BAPTIST CHURCH. We Catholics don't HATE homosexuals, we just think that they're actions are wrong and that they should try control their desires. Plenty of people have lived fine celibate lives. Our priests do it all the time. Gays can do it too. TheAmazingAtheist is just an ignoramus with a fat ass and no dick. That anyone, even other evangelial atheists, could buy into his bullshit amazes me.

  • @MrMarktheJarhead A bigot is one who is intolerant of any creed or doctrine other than their own. Now, it is very true TAA does make many statements that seem bigoted. But watch his video "Atheism Vs. Skepticism," wherein he explains that his reasons for believing what he believes are derived from open-minded evaluation of evidence. He also explains that should any belief offer compelling evidence to support it, he shall maintain an open mind towards its validity.

  • @crunchmetal I nearly pissed myself laughing at "he explains that his reasons for believing what he believes are derived from OPEN-MINDED evaluation." If TheAmazingAtheist is open-minded, then Gwenyth Paltrow is the fattest bitch I've ever seen. Watch The Catholic Church: Sexier Than Ever and tell me HONESTLY that TAA is open-minded. I KNOW you'll fail.

  • @MrMarktheJarhead What I am saying is that TAA judges the validity of things objectively, not that he is a generally open-minded dinner.

  • Of course this is a very simplified version of the theory, but I hope it sparks discussion.

It is not often that I have the privilege to disagree with someone I agree with on many issues and consider to be a clear thinker, and I hope this is one of those rare occasions on which discussion can be truly challenging and enriching for both sides. Thanks.

  • What I would like to point out directly, is that the basic premise on which you build your argument is factually incorrect, namely that an evolutionary biology account of human morality is incomplete as it only explains kindness and altruism.

The crux of the matter here is that cooperation is not a stable strategy. Parasites or 'cheaters' can arise in a cooperative society and take advantage of others. That's why, alongside a propensity to cooperate, moral outrage towards cheaters must evolve.

  • Dear Amazing Atheist,

It is a very interesting argument you have put together here. I beg to disagree with it though, I am convinced we cannot do without enforceable codes of conduct, especially when it comes to restricting antisocial behavior. For a solid and well researched argument for rule of law and objective, systematyzed rules to govern social interaction in general I would simply recommend Steven Pinker's latest book, the Better Angels of Our Nature.

  • I haven't ever eaten pork

  • PURE selfishness, when the kindness is forgotten and the more selfish impulses take over is responsible.

  • @doombybbr for part of it.

  • @doombybbr and i find it immoral to judge people without thinking about thinking about the RESULTS of their actions and why they did it.

  • @TheGalavantingGeeza: What's the characteristics? I don't feel human, I never felt human so, how are we human?

  • Begins slow clap....

  • Freedom is illusion you are always a slave to something

no one can ever be truly free in the western world today.

  • Timothy Mcveigh was a lone wolf, he worked alone

  • I'm sorry but, how are we human? That is the question that still amazes me.

  • @vluray18 How are we not? We are human, surely, in the same sense a dog is a dog. It is merely a clasification of our characteristics.

  • this is great, i agree with you but i do think that not allowing ourselves to do evil is still a product of trying to exist within a "caste" system, dont know if that made sense but, ah whatever

  • One of your best videos, Amazing Atheist. I completely skipped this one for some reason, but looking at this has helped me feel better. I am still a spiritual person. I believe in what I want to believe for reasons purely for happiness and to know that death may not be the end. It's to have faith in greater things in existence rather than just the face value of things. I am not spiritual to derive morals from it, I already KNOW what is right or wrong, and that there is a line one must not cross.

  • @NiceJokeROFL

Just because she doesn't yell at me doesn't mean that her act is of empathy. Empathy means to see the world through another person's eyes to sympathize with them. The reason my wife didn't yell at me wasn't because she cared about my feelings or saw this through my eyes, it was because she was just following a moral code that mandated "Don't yell at your husband." Just because there's no morality doesn't mean she'll have automatic empathy, empathy isn't mandated, unlike morality.

  • ...She's angry and yelling at you would benefit her, because you're the perfect scapegoat for letting out her frustration. She has no moral code to stop her so she yells at you. There's no "morality free empathy" here.

On the other hand, if she DOES have a moral code, she doesn't yell at you, because her moral code tells her to not to. And not yelling at you=act of empathy.

  • You gave a lot of examples how morality can be manipulated and used to control people. While this happens in many occasions, is this proper reason for dismissing morality as a subject matter?

Because if I don't have any sort of a moral code, then I live by 1 simple rule - I do whatever benefits me. You say that empathy=/=morality. Well, maybe, but it's impossible to completely disconnect them. Example - your wife comes home and there's a mess in the kitchen...

  • But if morality equals hierarchical societies like wolves, and we should lose our "shackles of morality", why do wolves outside the hierarchical societies die from, for example, starvation? They need to be in a pack to be able to function properly or all hell breaks loose and they die.

  • @FLangevor Working together does not equate to a hierarchal society. I think we naturally create hierarchies when we decide to work together, though.

  • kk thanks, im gonna go rape a bitch now.

  • This is so true. Well done, so well done.

  • 6:18 wtf.... ghost?? xD

But this video is extraordinary as usual, good job TJ :3

  • Told you it was a good source! If you watched this for your philosophy class, you already know who I am. Now go write your paper!

  • Cave men developed morals. Do unto others as you would like them to do unto you or get your head smashed in ie moral development.

  • everyone should jstu copy and paste this to there face book twitter or whatever so it gets more views

  • philosophy, morality SCREW IT I WILL FUCK EVERYTHING I SEE

  • Simply brilliant. I would love to see T.J. in a conversation with Dawkins and Harris. It would be quite compelling.

  • "The great epochs of our life come when we gain the courage to rechristen our evil as what is best in us."

    -Friedrich Nietzsche

This is still one of my favorite videos of TJ's, even after being subscribed for going on three years.

  • Lovely video. Read the lucifer principle recently, tj?

  • 14:20 I was waiting for one of them to have an umbrella, lol

  • like if you you paused at 1:09

  • 396 people should explain why they disagree.

  • lets all be alphas! great vid!

  • I adored this video, TJ. Great job.

  • This is one of the best amazing atheist videos ...!

    awesome arguments and views presented

  • Why is there a Bible degree add up in the corner of my atheist video?

  • Only got halfway through and it froze on me (internet is fine all day but somehow sucks at home) now I have enough internet to post this comment but not to watch the video, been frozen for like 5 minutes now. But it is worth watching again so I look forward to it tomorrow. Love your work, keep it up.

  • 14:30 Girly little me got scared :<, I looked behind me.

  • I have had the same thoughts about morality and overall human nature in general. Well said good sir.

  • well said man

  • this video was brilliant.

  • I love you...

  • this fat faggot hasn't changed shit.

  • @DeadIslandTrailers And what have you done?

  • @DeadIslandTrailers Kindly go choke on your own shit and die you worthless fuck. No one cares about your opinion. I hope I put that simply enough for somone like you to understand :)

  • I find it ironic that in most of these videos there's an advertisement for finding God or Jesus.

  • @ThorandTrevor I keep getting this add for religious degrees. It strikes me as hilarious.

  • Fuck morals. I have anal sex with underage white girls and eat my cheeseburgers medium rare. Anybody who thinks that my actions are wrong can suck my huge negro wang.

  • Perhaps it is I who am misunderstanding something when saying this, but I feel as if TJ has misunderstood where Richard Dawkins and Sam Harris are coming from. They do believe you use your own empathy to decide what is right and wrong; not solely empathy, but empathy together with logic and facts. Neurology fits into the picture because it can provide facts, like quantifying the suffering caused by water-boarding. Yes, it has the potential to add a real objective component to the moral....

  • what the hell does al sharpton know about morality,he has never had a real job in his life.all he has done is jump on the band wagon for a free ride everytime some b.s. happened.he jump on that stupid tawana fiasco back in the day,and it was all a lie.i wonder what his platform is now..since we have a black president..he cant blame the white man for anything now.

  • wow that was your best video, what an amazing perspective

  • Lovely video. Interesting and inspirational.

  • Best video TJ has done yet.

  • thers no SOUL.the term soul was made in hellas some 9000 years BC!.first fact that proves that is a script and a sign that had the same poem made by a hellenic poet named as sapfo.that woman was the first also to write that her 'heart'wants and love a man.since then it remained saying BS like 'my heart is urs ,u stole my heart and that stuff'' analyse and search the term and idea and origin of the term soul ull see that was a hellenic invention made thousand years BC by human brains 4 many rsons

  • if you are an atheist and thus predisposed to believing everything is a function of the brain, what do we do with people whose brains cannot process empathy? Or are you being ironic? I can't keep up.

  • @smitc21 People who cannot process empathy (I take it you are talking about sociopaths) follow a different moral code based on the part of their brain that is formed in a different way. Their morals are wrong to us because our brains process guilt and empathy different, while their morals are perfectly normal to them. Does that answer the question? If not, please expand and I will try to answer your question.

  • "A society where rapitsts florish" Wow, I want that, what do I have to do that this society becomes reality?

  • I think this is yet the best video he has made

  • One of the best videos I've ever seen!!!

  • Comment removed

  • @nactan Because we are not free souls. We are bound to morality by the governing body.

  • Ah first world story problem.

  • Realty to us is based soley on our enviorment and culture. - From a Muslim.

  • I think all of us need a place in life, and without that, we're not sure where to go, what to do, what to be... I know myself, i am still searching for what i am to be, without roles to guide us, a person can spend their life bouncing from one job to another, not making any real progress becoming confused... frustrated, until finally the person either gives up, or finds themselves in a dead in job, with no future... which is a life i would not wish on my worst enemy...

  • i normaly hate ur fat face but this is great

  • This video is wonderful.

  • Morality are comments on the direction your life is taking you. If you want to go from L.A. to Miami the quickest way possible; then going South is WRONG. If you want to go to Heaven then murder is WRONG. If you want revenge the murder might be RIGHT. the morality of any action depends on the intended destination( i.e. the fulfillment of some desire) of an individual.

  • Gr8!

  • This video is pretty much the philosophical basis for social anarchism.

  • I love how his conclusion resembles liberalism. :-)

  • @mmaarrkkuuss1515 Liberalism embraces collective ideals such as gender, race, and creed as being separate but equal. He is touting nothing like collectivism. He is calling for us to go against hierarchy in social construct. Liberalism clings to morality as its rock to support its collectivist ideals. He says we should drop this structure, forget morality as its ever been, embrace personal ethics, that as humans we are inherently equal and different, to be aware as individuals not a tribe.

  • @Jebs24 Your description of liberalism is actually socialism. The word "liberal" is misused in USA.

Liberalism allows people to live their lives according to their own morals, which is exactly what this clip is about. In history people have used their liberty to discriminate, because they thought it was morally right. Now people talk against discrimination, because they think it is morally wrong. This video is about how people force their morals upon others as if they were objectively correct.

  • @mmaarrkkuuss1515 I guess i can concede on that, But of course one must agree, even if it is from misuse, the public at large defines the terms and gives them truer popular meaning. That is how language works. I'm not saying that in my defense really, just sayin'. Thanks though for correcting, because I do agree with it all in the end, just used to the misuse of liberalism I guess. Though I still think this would be popularly aligned with civil libertarianism in the states.

  • Omega wolf= the pack's bitch

    You= Morality's bitch

    got it

  • also, i don't see why a free soul wouldn't freely blow up sapient government livestock as a free act of vengeance.

  • what if the science DEMANDS that we set the soul free by CONTROLLING society to bring about individual freedom?

  • freedom from irony?

  • TJ, why don't you make videos like this any more? I'm sorry, but you have nearly sunk to the level of a liberal Glenn Beck. Not quite, though.

  • Great vid! Thanks.

  • I wish that the reality that TJ presented at the end of the video could be realized, but I doubt that it will ever exist in our species.

  • TJ, your argument is so cogent that it's actually given me some ideas for writing an AI program based on moral units

  • so you advocate being abnormal,(whatever that is?) fOR THAT MATTER WHAT IS NORMAL? Never equate normal as moral and abnormal as immoral NEVER!!

  • @ricglos Thumb up.

  • One of the vest videos I have ever seen.

  • Morality comes from latin mores, that means habits, behaviour. They change with time and space because they are NOT absolute. You are responsable for your behavior. People that cannot think for themselves need somebody else to tell them what to think and how to act. Those are the religious people... If you have a brain and you thrust it then you don't need religion!

  • @ilFattoSettimanale or maybe you become religion of ur own!
