sadly i thought the behind the scenes was much more interesting than this clip itself. Then again, the video's good, not great but good. The song's complete crap though.
The music and the video are very cool. It really takes the best parts of still photography (image quality, strobe lighting) and combines it with the best parts of cinema (fluid motion with steady cam). I especially like how the strobe lighting freezes the splashing water in the tub.
Very creatively shot. For those who ask why not use the Mark II — I think there's a pretty good reason to stick with what was done. One, the shutter speed would have to be insanely high to achieve the same look, which can have problems with the rolling shutter on video. Secondly, this video is future-proof. The resolution could be pulled up to something far, FAR better than HD. Equivalent to a RED camera, perhaps? Anyways, neat job! A bit dark for my tastes, but I respect what you've done.
WOW, a lot of angry comments here. I think the band is great and WELL DONE on the video. I agree with asphaltjunkiez comments, Richard made technology work in different way and it came our wonderful. I especially like the lighting.
yeah, after watching the making of video i really wanted this to be better. i think people are rather harsh on it though, its still a pretty good piece of mv. and kudos for trying something new, thats what's most important.
I for one have to split my personal ratings on this video based on the components that make it up.
1 Star for the song... just not good IMO.
2 Stars for the video... yeah not good either.
5 stars for the concept... great new idea, but yeah, it didn't work IMO, but still a thinking outside the box.
I work with plenty of high end production people and they'd laugh at the concept just because the effect can be puled of with a normal cinema camera. Still worth the effort but they failed in the end
I think it was a cool idea to do. Don't care for the song...or the video. However, I like the idea of taking a dslr w/10fps and trying to make a video. Could this become part of the future of filmmaking?
this is awesome..all you ppl saying he should hve used a 5d2 etc ...eat it.
this is what artists do..they make art... he could have easily used a 5d2....but whats the fun of that? Half the fun is to make technology work in diff ways...such as this... lot of work, lot of love, respect
Why not simply ditch every third frame in a regular video? A lot of energy put into a result that could be had with far less fussing around. It's much like the tv series Airwolf - desperately trying to construct a situation that needs a helicopter gunship when a simple baseball bat would have sufficed.
Not the first EVER - see e.g. Smashing Pumpkins' "Thirty-Three", which was shot on still film cameras back in '95 or so. They used the cameras that sports shooters used, with big reels of film.
very similar to Apple tree that I did with almost notech... check it

Interesting, but nauseating. The same effect could have been achieved with a regular video but dropping every other frame.
