I'm so sorry everyone is acting like an elitest snob. They looked healthy to me and I think it's cool you got betta's and other fish in your office. They premote such zen and seeing them perks up the mood doesn't it? Everytime I leave a petstore I feel so refreshed after looking at the fish. The way they move and are so quiet...Beautiful aren't they?
that 1 gal is more like 24oz and the 5 gal looks more like a 2.5 to me, but what ever I have givin up on trying to help people take better care of your bettas, yall are like crack addicts these nothing any 1 can do or say to make you open your eyes
They aren't happy because they need atleast 5 gallons each. Under 5 gallons is only suitable for small shrimp and snails. Upgrade their tanks and they will live alot longer and be much happier and active. Also in small tanks current is stronger (they do not like this). The danios need large tanks of 15+ gallons as they are very active, need to be in 6+ shoals and need quite strong flow. Do not mix them with a betta they are know fin nippers.
bad bad bowels people complain that those are sad for them yes i agree but there still fine in them. But those bowels are down right cruel! there to small!!!! I have one Beta fish called Alpha with a 1.5 gallon bowl to himself with one Lilly pad, plastic plant ( Perfect for hiding and glows in the dark ) and rainbow rocks i feed him blood worms and pellets but dude you need to buy way better bowel 1.2 gallon at least!!!
thats cruel I have my betta in 10 gallon all by himself! he is SO happy! You should take them home and get the bettas a seperated 10 gallon tank. 5 gallons each but get rid of the danios!
the betta fishtank thingy i had that but i throw it away because wen it gets older and older it will start 2 leak alot. My fish almost died bcause of that.(it will leak at the bottom becuase theres a drain)it cost $4.99 thats y it broke bcause its so CHEAP
hey nive tanks, dont listen to pll who say that u mixing danios and bettas r a bad idea, danios r verry hardy fish, and so r most bettas, so as long as they all get the food they need, u r good :)
both of those tanks are way too small for both betta and danios first danios need a large open space to swim around in as they are very agile and fast , second bettas ; altho slow moving , still need an open space for development and sometimes it can improve thier finnage.
overall great vid and great tank setups and great looking fish. : )
i have one betta male and one zebra danio in a 6 gallon mariland tank for 9 months and they are fine . I use to had 3 zebra danios together with the same betta but the danios die so I only keep one zebra danio now so it is not so crowded.
betta's can survive years without heaters, all u really need is the betta water conditioner and they will do just fine..... note bettas can be mixed with many different fish but research before addin them
To be honest I'm happy you moved your bettas into a bigger tank, bettas need 2 gallons or more to live happy and healthy lives. Danios on the other hand require a bit more, 5 gallons and less than 6 fish is a rather uncomfortable environment. Would you like to be shoved in a small office with 6 other employees? My suggestion is that if you can't meet the proper housing requirements for the type of fish you like it may be best to go with a less demanding option.
Well, I can't put a bigger tank on the desk, so 4 danios in a 5 gallon tank will have to do. Not the pictured one, a new hex. And each betta is in a 3 gallon Eclipse.
@sgorny If you can't provide the fish with a proper home where they can be comfortable, you should take them back to the store. Also all of your tanks should be heated and filtered.
Add as much water as you can to the 1 Gallon Betta aquarium. The flow won't be so high if there is more water in the tank. I'm happy that you moved the Danios out of the 1 Gallon.

Answers:
1.) I am an Optometric Physician, grad of UCBerkeley
2.) This was an older set-up, now have a 12 gallon Eclipse, and a 3 gallon
3.) Why a sink? People have to wash hands to handle their contact lenses, I need to practice good hygiene before I touch patients
4.) My office is my space, I could probably have a hamster if I wanted, but fish are a) cleaner, b) less stinky, c) quieter, d) more acceptable
5) the store won't take fish back
Wow, 5 pgs comments more? Strong feelings, people!

This is long ago. The danios are in a 5 gallon hex, the bettas were each in a 3 gallon Eclipse, until one of them died.
sgorny 3 years ago 2
bettas CAN live like that! mine lived happy, in a bowl for 3 and a half years ... Julio :(
anyway her first tank is fine, second tank is boring, and third one needs like two guppies, not a betta.

Zebra danios need a 10gal minimum and atleast a schoal of 6.
