I actually kind of hum or sing this song when we go back home and I drive by the old site. The kids think I'm nuts. But they have no idea how great that broken clump of blacktop and rusted fence line used to be.
Is this radio jingle from the 1970's or 1980's? This is a very catchy tune. I have heard alot about Idora Park. Its a shame that its no longer around.
My first time at Idora Park was nearly 50 years ago. It is my most dearest memory of a fun day with my dad. I even remember the clothes I wore that day! It's amazing how much I remember of that day and can't remember what I did yesterday. :-)
this theme park Idora Park was a big loss i never hear this park be4 it very very old i am glad there was no demo in that park. the only thing i could say is for my theme park R.I.P.and THE Owner R.I.P.
I am so tired of people putting down the Youngstown area. I have lived here all of my life and can say by traveling this country that I think it is no worse than other mid-sized cities. Sure we had crime and drugs and all the other bad things, but name any city that didn't!
I loved the time I spent at Idora! Every year they would have the AutoRama, 1/2 price sale, Spring Thing, GM Picnics etc. We always had a good time there. Listen to Left End or MSB then go ride the Wild Cat!! Great Times!!!
Thank u and your right on the button, I lived in San Diego, CA, Clearwater Tampa, Fl and no matter where it was the same as here! Everyone thinks it's always Greener on the otherside, but it's not! I worked at Idora for 4 years, and LOVED EVERY MOMENT OF IT! and to say the Mafia had a part of the demise, there wrong, MR. DUFFY, the owner, LOVED HIS PARK and treated everyone of us with respect and he died 2 months later, from a Heart Attack and his family say was because of the Idora demise.
The area has always been Mafia-infested, too. Considering that the area was in decline and with such a heavy Mafia presence, the multiple fires alway seemed suspicious in my assessment. Wouldn't surprise me at all if the local Mob "arranged" the fire to get a cut of the insurance payout on a park whose patrons were no longer safe due to the park being surrounded by a ghetto and where the demise of the steel industry put so many patrons on the unemployment line.
"Free Trade" and "Diversity" were what killed this part of our childhood!!! The surrounding area turned into a ghetto, cheap foreign steel killed the industry that supported the local economy, and young girls couldn't go into the Funhouse without being surrounded and sexually assaulted by thugs! I went to Idora many times as a child and saw it deteriorate between then and the last summer I went there (a rock concert in 84). There were rumors of a rape in the Funhouse that day by area thugs.
Loved this video!!!! That's me in the boat over 40 years ago. They can take our park away from us, but never the memories. Thanks for keeping them alive. Judy
Thank you! Yes a HUGE LOSS, espcecially how close we were working there.......the song was from a radio commercial in Youngstown, and my computer crashed so lost it but trying to get it back with my contacts...if I do I'll let u no!
Just love watching this video now and then. Keep the past alive. Thanks for the memories....Judy

Nice slide show! It must have been a shame to lose such a great park. Where might one obtain a copy of the Idora song you used in this video?
