@Hector3251.... don't be such an ignorant fuck. in 72 clapton was far from his peak... he was a year removed from music in a drug haze... and as far as the stones he never got along very well with Jagger. cocaine has never been considered a blues song, ask the writer, jj Cale, a good ol' country boy...don't rush to a judgement that is based on pure ignorance and misinformation.. yes i love Rory and he was great but he also was raw, one dimensional and never reached his full potential

If I could play half as good as Clapton I'd be satisfied. He never even has to look down to see what fret he's on. I guess after decades of playing with the best of the best it comes naturally.
At his best - playing the blues with consumate ease and conviction - and importantly with the ever present bar football table he takes on tour with him....
You will find a concert version of I'm Tore Down, including mostly the same musicians (but with Steve Gadd on drums) on the DVD "Live at Hyde Park" (recorded around ten years ago). Probably Eric's best DVD ever.
EC is the man, that is not talent, it's EC being EC. The first time he picked up a guitar five people laid their's down! Because nobody can touch him, he really is GOD!
I just finished reading his book. He says he will not tour anymore. Anyone heard anything about a tour. I always liked EC but after reading his book I like him even more knowing whats behind the music.
BSP i love love love this kind of music too , it makes my feet want to dance and my face smile all happily , who can not feel good listening to this !!! Eric's quite an OK kind of guitar player dont you think ? LOL LOL (understatement of the century LOL)X
Eric calls it Woodshadding, in early years he listen to the great bluesplayers on records, and try to play like them.. I like Rory Gallagher too, but I like Eric best of them all, but Rory is on my top 10-list,and Eric is on top of that list.
Clapton is a very good copy cat. Cant hold a candle to the real thing though: Freddie, BB, Albert, Albert C, Magic Sam, Hubert Sumlin and Clapton be'd the first to say so.
Can someone please, please tell me where I can get hold of a DVD of the whole of this rehearsal/interview session - I've got a dodgy audio tape of it at home and have no idea where it came from.
I think that's cos Gibsons have a better tone for blues than Fenders (the power provided by their lovely range of humbuckers). I think, however, that Fenders (Strats in particular) are a more versatile choice for playing a variety of styles (rock, jazz, funk, country etc.)
gibsons don't necessarily have better tone for blues than fenders, it's all how you set your sound. clapton can get a very similar sound with his newer strats (with the mid-boost circuit). all the old great blues players have used strats.
thats not really true b/c a lot of good guitarists like freddie king, muddy waters, albert king, bb.king, along with others that have used gibsons but it really just depends on what you like
@cerebralparsley I agree 100%. I do think that Fender strats sound great in blues and jazz applications but a Gibson just shines a little brighter there. I have also heard the gibson perform marvelously in heavier styles though.
Best version of this song I've heard is by Rory Gallagher.

To the one asshole that can't appreciate Clapton and the great music he creates. Is it lonely in your sad little existence?

@cerebralparsley Pure speculation & hot air. How about, " He just happens to like the 335 for this song and a few others". Over analysis sucks!
